"Why list it as modern instead of casual?"It's listed as Modern because Modern Format was the constraint by which I picked cards to include in this deck concept. I usually use Modern as the filter when fiddling with deck ideas because I like the updated borders much more than the original borders. I know that Modern Format isn't necessarily a perfect fit for those needs, but the alternative is to look up exactly which set started the updated borders and then toggle each of the filter options to include that set and all sets chronologically after it. That, to me, seems too tedious since selecting "Modern" achieves the same basic goal. If my listing as "Modern" is really an issue, I suppose I'll consider changing it when I look at the cards suggested by marlonmikami - a task that I haven't dedicated myself to just yet. I'll get back to that idea in a bit, below.
"Scry shouldn't be a mechanic to drive a deck."The deck is literally named "Scry them to Death." Using Scry as the centerpiece - the driver - is
exactly what I built this for in the first place. If a prerequisite for a deck you want to look at is "it better not use scry as a driver," then why oh why did you come here, friend? lol
It's also worth note that
I'm not done with this deck. I put it together in about 15 minutes. Even I personally think it needs more cheap burn spells to trigger
Knowledge and Power more often while still allowing extra mana to activate it, and I've even considered including more cards to enter as copies of
Flamespeaker Adept.
The truth is, no matter what I do, this deck may not (ever) stand against tribal Slivers or Goblins - it would be summarily destroyed by those strategies because there are simply stronger cards for those strategies. That doesn't mean Scry them to Death is a bad deck, it just means it shouldn't be played in that tier / against those decks. If anyone reads the list and believes they can take this to a tournament, they might have a bad time if they expect to win the #1 place, yes, depending on their competition. However, this deck is still Modern Legal and if someone wants to take a weird build, changed or not, to their next local Modern FNM, then I feel it's still important to list that this deck as capable of that.
My part is to come up with an idea, list it out, and post it. It's the reader's responsibility to decide if they think it's worth trying or not. I'm never going to force anyone to use this deck, it's just here if you want it. Personally, I think I'll see how it does because I think it sounds fun to play.
