I'm gonna just free-associate.
Maybe it's just deckstats's shuffler but I could not get a decent opening hand with enough land. Maybe you should consider bumping it back up to 36-38 lands.
Altar of Dementia is a great card for the deck.
Bastion of Remembrance is an amazing card for an aristocrats deck, especially with our meta's difficulty dealing with enchantments. I love it!
Dark Privilege is an odd choice, I think. Are you looking for the regen effect or just the free sac outlet? if it's the latter, I think there are better choices, like
Carrion Feeder,
Ashnod's Altar, et al. I think the regen effect has interesting applications, being kind of a reason for opponents to direct their fire elsewhere, just cos it'll have a weak effect on your board.
Genesis Wave is another odd choice. I don't see a way for you to make *big mana.* Which brings me back to the idea of including Ashnod's over DP.
Greater Good is a card I've always wanted to include in a deck but never found a good place for. Nice job.
Replace
Krosan Grip with Rec Sage, I think.
Basically i think that in this deck if you can do it with a creature or a land instead of a spell, do it with a creature or land.
Cultivate?
Kodama's Reach? No.
Pilgrim's Eye.
Farhaven Elf.
On THAT note, I think
Yavimaya Elder will very quickly become cumbersome as you need fewer lands and more card draw. I'm medium on that thought though.
I only play Gary in mono-black, for what it's worth.
I think the mana curve is quite high, btw. I'd really look at some of your top end cards and give them some serious scrutiny. I know at the end of the game you want to be able to return them for free with Meren, but Meren is notorious for catching removal. It will probably be really hard to get there.
Lastly, with those top-end slots, I would invite you to think about what you're trying to accomplish. Is it a Dictate of Erebos-like lock? A sudden
avalanche of
Blood Artist effects to close it out? What's the plan to make your opponent's total combined life total go from 120 to zero? Can you find some kind of loop or alpha strike, or is it a game of
attrition, and how are you going to win a war of
attrition when your commander eventually costs 10?
Example of curve reduction:
Command the Dreadhorde instead of
Rise of the Dark Realms. Yes, you lose life, but it's 3 cheaper and by the time you're casting something like that, you're living or dying in a turn or so anyway.
Okay, I'm done. Sorry if I sound mean. That's my way of looking at decks: I only ever imagine the WORST way things could go. Generally, Ian will take a tone that is more rewarding for creativity and following your dreams.
