Well, Deep-Sea Kraken is really amazing for this deck but I prefer use Thing In The Ice because is faster and for "boomerang" effect. The cumulative upkeep can be nice but often you need age counter to use the full power of this card type, so it's better don't remove this counter.

Are you sure? It is a permanent with counter on it.
Sure, because you cast an instant and remove a counter for the effect of TitI then you remove a counter for the effect of Clockspinning

Well, the first i think is slow and expensive for that it can offers (viridian claw is better for my own) and the second i guess isn't good for this deck because usually i use 1-3 instant for game so the runechanter's pike gives only +2 or +3 (viridian claw remain better than that for me). However, I prefer focus on more powerful equipments instead that viridian claw (like basilisk collar, lighting groves, etc) because my creatures for the attack are already strong (etched champion and porcelain soldier) without first strike. I hope to answer correctly and completely!
