Deck Reviews / Any help on this crazy Manaless Dredge [Casual]?
« am: April 13, 2020, 06:26:00 Nachmittag »
I'm working on this one. Any help is appreciated, as I'm not sure if it can actually work. No interested in tournaments play, I just build deck to play against friends.
Here's the main strategy:
Turn 1: Draw 8th card. Pass. Discard a card with Dredge or the Phantasmagorian + 3 other cards (with Dredge possibly).
Turn 2: Don't draw, Dredge instead. Narcomoeba, Nether Shadow and Prized Amalgam can go onto the battlefield already.
Turn 3: It's time for everything basically. Ichorid and using Dread Return you can put into the battlefield Sidisi, Brood Tyrant and/or Lotleth Giant.

General Magic / Help with a deck?
« am: Januar 25, 2020, 05:10:51 Nachmittag »
Hi everyone, I have an idea for a casual deck using Tamanoa + Overabundance + Searing Meditation, but not quite.
I'm gonna hit the opponents by tapping lands.
I still don't know how to defend against anything: do you have any ideas?
If you know my previous decks, you know I'm going cheap and fun to play.
Thanks in advance.

General Magic / [Magistrate's Scepter] How to stop unlimited turns?
« am: Oktober 22, 2019, 09:39:41 Vormittag »
I hate infinite combos. I hate playing against them and even playing with a combo deck. I simply don't get where the fun come from, as a casual player. I recently build a deck around Charge Counters (see the latest on my profile) using the awesome Magistrate's Scepter. As soon as I found out I could have played unlimited turns with it, I was disappointed.

This is how I feel it should be:

What do you think about it? What are your thoughts on infinite combos in general?

[it] Richieste recensioni mazzi / [Modern] Ebony Owl Netsuke
« am: Oktober 16, 2019, 12:29:12 Nachmittag »
https://deckstats.net/decks/88072/1015186-netsuke

General Magic / What do you love more? Building decks or playing?
« am: Juni 15, 2019, 03:29:38 Nachmittag »
I play MTG since 2003: I bought my very first deck on vacation, it was a mono blue with Phantom Warrior, Wind Drake and Mana Leak, I always loved it. Since then I always loved building my own decks from scratch. I bought a few, expecially in the beginning, but I always realized that build a deck is a big part of the game, if not the biggest, at least for me.
My learning curve had a real blast when I had no-limits internet access. From that point my focus is on super cheap and fun decks to play against friends, Modern and Casual formats. Currently I own 15 complete decks and I'm always working on new unique ideas. I love when cards interacts with opponents and the game is enjoyable for everyone.

Deck Reviews / [Modern] Ebony Owl Netsuke (UR)

DRAW CONTROL DECK IN MODERN
This deck continues the series of decks based on "crappy cards that no one wants to play with" and brings it to the next level. It also covers the two main holes of my deckbuilding adventure: Izzet and Control decks.
This one focuses on cards in opponents hands and makes tons of damages even before the drawing phase. This cards combo proved to be very fun to play and still devastating against different type of decks.

OFFENSIVE STRATEGY
The more cards our opponents draw, the better it is for us. As permanents like Ebony Owl Netsuke and Fevered Visions deals tons of damages each turn, even if the latter is way more consistent as it force to draw and requires only 4 cards in hand to kick in.
When you have multiple of them in play, the game is pretty much done.
But mostly of decks have no problem whatsoever to play multiple cards at once, so that in many cases our base strategy can't work. That's why we use other tricks to keep our opponents with 7 cards in hand everytime.
Howling Mine proved to be an absolute blast in that aspect, forcing to draw 2 cards at every draw phase, and again: having multiple of them in play is a huge bonus to our offensive strategy. Temple Bell, even if it's less powerful, is great to make each player draw as we wish. Usually at this point each player is drawing a bunch of cards every turn, so Cerebral Vortex and the Runeflare Trap can finish them off easly. Molten Psyche is simply devastating in four-player games.
- Example?
Beginning of the opponent's unkeep, 7 cards in hand: 4 damages from the Ebony Owl Netsuke. I own the Howling Mine and I tap the Temple Bell, he/she draws 3 total cards. Then, using 2 mana: dropping two Runeflare Trap = 22 damages. Slick play.

DEFENSIVE STRATEGY
The worst thing is when your opponent play good cards that you made him/her draw. I tried to fill the defensive strategy with counters, like Dream Fracture or Remand, that are good even for the offensive side, but it slows down the game too much and it end up being a bad deck. I'm still working on it tho, considering Outwit, as at this point the deck is armless against spells like Shock.
It's better to slow down opponent's play instead using Call to Heel and Whelming Wave that fill our opponents hands and triggers our offensive cards like Molten Psyche and Ebony Owl Netsuke.
Swans of Bryn Argoll is great against creatures, as it can't be damaged and makes our opponent draw a bunch of cards. It proved to be exceptionally good during actual play.

That's it! Have fun with this new Izzet control deck. Enjoy it.

Deck Reviews / Tamanoa [Casual]
« am: Juni 13, 2019, 11:33:06 Vormittag »
Some help on my Tamanoa deck?
Basically with Tamanoa we are safe against non-creature damage. So I can play cards like Overabundance and Searing Meditation.
Isolation Cell, Oppressive Rays and Soul Tithe are great against aggro decks: the opponent has to tap for mana if he wants to play creatures (the only way to kill us).

Any suggestions? It has to be super budget (<30€).

MONO WHITE +1/+1 COUNTERS IN MODERN

Heroic is an ability that triggers when the player targets one of his/her creatures.
Nothing extraordinary from a strategic point of view, except that this deck is build around +1/+1 counters. This means that the creatures, if supported by some well played spells, make our own play almost impossible to stop. Unlike Prowess or Bushido, Heroic leave a permanent effect on the board so the strategy is an exponential ramp of improvement turn after turn, creatures become more and bigger.

OFFENSIVE STRATEGY
Starting with lands: cheap choice here with a bunch of Plains[/url. [url=https://cards.deckstats.net/magiccard.php?lng=en&card=Desert+of+the+True]Desert of the True is a good alternative for 4-player matches.
Drop-1 creatures like Lagonna-Band Trailblazer and Favored Hoplite are a great first play because there aren't many 2/2 creatures with Haste that can attack you straight in. Then the nasty things happens: at turn 2 you'll be able to cast almost every spell, say the Ethereal Armor and Defiant Strike, making the Hoplite an indestructible 5/5 with first strike! Uh, and you draw a card tho.

A card that helps massively to spread the counters on all creatures it's the Phalanx Leader. It's awesome. In addition with the Vanguard of Brimaz you'll end up having multiple ass-beating creatures, most of them with vigiIance, first strike or flying.
Say you have 3 creatures on the board, still no counters on them. Just cast Gleam of Authority on the Phalanx gives a +1/+1 on every creature, plus the Phalanx gets an additional +2/+2 and vigiIance!

DEFENSIVE STRATEGY
There is one main problem with this deck: counters and auras exist only attached to a creature, so cards like Unsummon litteraly destroy our strategy. If you have to face blue decks I higly recommend to swap Defiant Strike with Rebuff the Wicked from the sideboard to counter those type of cards. Nasty permanents like Sanguine Bond or Ghostly Prison can be removed using Oblivion Ring.
Another awesome card is Valorous Stance: it's a double-effect instant (rare in white) that prevents the effect of cards like Terminate or can destroy huge creatures like Aetherwind Basker.

That's it. Enjoy your cheap awesome white deck and good Magic to all!
