Deck Reviews / [Standard] Simic Energy Featuring: Aetherworks Marvel

Energy Overload (aka Simic Energy)

Drop a Aetherworks Marvel by turn 4 and activate......
There is a writeup in the Comments tab associated with this deck.

I have tuned this deck quite a bit, but I am wondering what this community may have as ideas on how to make it even better.

Deckstats Feedback / Sorting a filtered card list......

In the deck builder causes multiples of cards to show and others to not show at all.

For example; standard cards, my cards only, black, sorted on casting cost.

Haunted keep

A deck in celebration of the season, the Haunted Keep is haunted by Spirits and Ghosts!  Stories of suits of armor and dolls coming alive to kill and maim intruders of the Keep have been whispered in the dark night around a comforting fire.  Those who enter seldom return..... in their living form at least.

Witchbane Orb

Bummer.  That is what happens when you play the lottery.

At least last time I got a few good things.

Anyone else occasionally splurge on an older pack hoping for a lucky hit?

I got Sword of Fire and Ice a while back.  I sold it on Puca Trade immediately.

Deck Reviews / [Modern] The Sorcerer's Brain

The Sorcerer's Brain

After many years of practice in my craft, I never really left the stage of Apprentice.  Even though I have guided many a novice in the arts; provided them spells, showed them how to optimize their resources and tune their incantations into a formidable unit, I still have no official credits to my name.

Ahh, but I have learned from the experiments of great masters before me, and from their notes and arcane writings I have successfully harvested and preserved the brain of a great wizard to help power my way into bigger and better things!!!

General Magic / Why not Haunted Cloak
« on: May 07, 2016, 11:10:19 am »
I have seen very little discussion about Haunted Cloak.
The bits I have seen folks talk about the fact that is does not buff.
They also mentioned that as a combo card it isn't good if you don't see the other half of your combo.  They were talking about a combo with Odric, Lunarch Marshal.

Personally, I have found while tinkering with the card, that its real benefit is in equipping which ever creature you just summoned to give it haste, thus bringing them into the action immediately.  In a creature heavy ramp deck, the repeated haste on new creatures that are constantly ramping in size and scope speeds up your threat level each turn.  Your turn 5 and turn 6 threats are immediate.

General Magic / Experimenting with boosters - an exercise
« on: February 23, 2016, 01:28:41 pm »
I am trying this out in an attempt to improve my overall knowledge of both the cards within the sets and the formats that I am working in.

Currently that would be Oath of the Gatewatch and Standard.

I don't have a regular play group, nor do I get out too often to play even in an FNM.  I do, however, have XMage and the desire to improve.
So that is how this idea came about.

It is already underway, and it is being documented within the comments section of the first packs/deck I started with.  If you are interested in checking it out the link is below.

I would welcome comments or engagement, and invite you to follow the story.  I would also encourage you to maybe try this experiment, or one similar.  If you do, please feel free to attach a link to YOUR improvement journey on this thread so we can maybe be a small part in helping each other get better at our favorite game!

Deckstats Feedback / Expanded deck analysis metrics
« on: February 17, 2016, 08:00:55 pm »
I was wondering if there is chance we can get some cumulative metrics for the probabilities page to allow us to see probabilities of groups of cards further in than turn 1.

I am thinking along the line of answering a question like.....

What is the probability, if I have 24 lands in my 60 card deck that I will see 4 or more of them by my 4th turn?

What is the probability, if I have 8 counter spells that will see at least 3 of them by turn 6?

That is really the only metric type that this excellent site does not already provide me.

General Magic / Playing online for free with XMage.
« on: January 21, 2016, 02:43:35 pm »
How many of you take advantage of XMage for practice and play testing?

If you are not familiar, it is a Java app that you can download to your laptop or PC.   xmage.de

It has a client and server side.
With the client side you can connect to servers around the world, and play magic with other XMage enthusiasts.  The server in Europe is the most popular one.

With the server side, you can open up your own server for people to play on.  Mostly this is useful for setting up private sessions with friends or having an AI robot player play one your own decks against yourself.  The AI robot is NOT GOOD.

General Magic / How would you play this starting hand?
« on: December 21, 2015, 02:28:34 pm »
Forest
Canopy Vista
Servant of the Scale
Windswept Heath
Hardened Scales
Warden of the First Tree
Avatar of the Resolute

If these cards were your starting hand, which order would you plan to play them?
Please explain.

I may have follow on questions about additional what ifs on this particular draw, and subsequent pulls.......

Deck Reviews / [Modern] Jeskai Delver Angel

Jeskai Delver Angel

Jeskai deck using fast removal, Abbot of the Keral Keep, Delver of Secrets, and Young Pyromancer's to buy time for the arrival of a Lightning Angel or two.....This should be a quick beat down.  Keranos is in the deck to help put the finishing touches, in the case the game goes mid-range.

The deck is Standard.  Use the link above to view the deck.

This deck has evolved immensely since I started  building  it, but I would really appreciate your input.
