General Magic / Re: I need to find a modern deck!

Budget affinity and infect are usually easy decks to build. Mono Black Suicide, Modern Maverick are two rogue idea's I wan't to try out soon.

Your mana costs are way to high. You should start with around three 4 casting cost cards maximum. 4 gravecrawlers is a good start for any zombie build. Duress or Blackmail are great hand disruption options. Zombies has too many 3 casting cost lords. Diragraf Captain is the most functional zombie lord and is the best reason to run Black Blue ZOmbies in my opinion. And yes running too many 3 casting cost cards is also bad, you should only run 7-8 give or take. Death baron and Lord are cool, but redundant as you take a look at some of the different zombie deck options out there right now. Check out my current zombie deck that I am building. It has a different direction than your deck, and has obvious holes in its game. Making a zombie deck that works has been a challenge for me over the years.

General Magic / Re: What are some of the formats on here mean?
« on: August 11, 2015, 09:07:40 pm »
Vintage, Legacy, Pauper and EDH (commander) are what you call eternal formats. Meaning you can pretty much use cards that date back to Beta. Vintage is the most powerful and fast paced format in the game. Vintage uses a restricted list (only one copy of the card can be used) for cards that are over powered. Legacy is the second most powerful and fast paced format but it has a banned list instead of a restricted list. You will notice more than half of cards on the vintage restricted list are banned in legacy. In vintage you can expect games to last 1-3 turns, while legacy can be anywhere from turn 4-5 kills at average, though some decks combo off turn one for the win in legacy. Pauper is another Eternal format in which you can use only common cards, and Paper pauper is apperently not sanctioned by wizards of the coast. The MTG Online pauper format has a slightly different environment than paper pauper as far as card availability, and some cards have different rarities. Local Play groups have been known to play different variations of pauper such as standard or modern pauper. In modern the card availability starts around Eighth Edition to the current as sort of a new beginning, new format, new child of MTG. Though don't be deceived some newer card prints are not allowed in Modern. Special Sets like Conspiracy_, commander, Planechase, Promos have reprints of cards that are not in modern. Being fluent with modern requires obtaining a vast knowledge of the cards and sets in the game.

Does this card have a color? Are you sure it wasn't a redirect ability of some sort? Try the cardkingdom search engine, but it is very sensitive.

Deck Reviews / Re: Any tips on my Modern Elves deck?
« on: July 17, 2015, 08:23:49 am »
Be my guest. There are so many elves in the game why not sub categorize them. Before Dwynen's Elite I had 4 "Maybe" slots in the deck and things like elvish promenade and inspiring call were coming to mind. I took a long time of me starring at the deck on paper to see it for what it was. I do not claim this deck as my own I really hope I see people play test and develop it. Elf Warriors 2015 lets do it!

By definition "Casual" decks have a vague direction, which makes it harder for me to give advise on. I understand how it is to build with what you have. Enter in a "Maybe" board of potential cards that you have access to. I can also help with advise for the format, theme, build, and buy list if you want. I personally wanted to make a Pauper deck (all commons) based around Akroan Crusader here soon. Your deck is 3 cards away from being Standard format in case you wanted to go that route.

Check out my elf warriors build. The big fancy elves may slow this one down. I also have an elf druid deck posted. Neither have been play tested though. https://deckstats.net/decks/10519/176011-elf-warrior-tribal/en

Thank you for the reminder. I was brainstorming on this tribal Ally build and someone suggested Champion of the Parish to fill the 1 casting cost creature slot. I just updated my deck, though it is no where near complete. https://deckstats.net/decks/10519/274971-ally-tribal-mono-white/en

Deck Reviews / Re: [Legacy] First time trying to build and need help

I personally believe in building mtg decks on a budget. And regardless of the direction you wish to take on this deck I need to suggest some cards that you should look into. Swords to Plowshares x 4 is less than 10 bucks. Important for any white legacy deck. In modern Path to Exile plays the same roll, but more expensive. Cheaper alternatives for these cards are condemn and oust. Having a 1 casting cost creature removal option to stop decks like Infect early on is very important. A couple cheap angels Serra Avenger Emancipation Angel and Angel of Jubilation are lower casting cost Angels and highly suggested if you want to run a "Tribal" Angel themed deck. Seraph Sanctuary is one of the few tribal Angel cards that I can think of. Angelic Curator Angelic Page and Sustaining Spirit are some 2 casting cost options. Adaptive Automaton and Brass herald are an option when looking into unpopular tribal themes. Ghostly Prison Luminarch Ascension Glacial Chasm Armageddon Pearl Medallion Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx are some cards to look at just because. But it all depends which Direction you decide to take. Google reanimator decks, and an instant reanimator build to give yourself an Idea of the most popular usage of Angels in the game of Magic. These deck usually they run black cards like animate dead and reanimate exhume to put down large creatures by turn 1 or 2. These decks also require intentionally discarding a large creature to the graveyard by using Entomb or other dicard outlets. White has its own graveyard mechanics with Breath of Life Resurrection Defy Death and best white discard outlet i can think of is Tireless Tribe.

Does this deck need to be legacy?

Deck Reviews / Re: [Modern] Aggro Goblin

Vial works wonders in Legacy goblins, because of goblin matron, goblin ringleader, and goblin warchief. Unfortunately those 3 cards are not modern. Which makes Vial less useful. Looking at some black modern Goblins we have Mad Auntie, Frogtosser Bannerett, and Boggart Harbinger. Here we get some addition tools to work with in modern, but still lacking the legacy card advantage engine to utilize Aether Vial in the same way late game. Gempalm Incinerator is another important part of legacy goblins that is not in modern. Goblin Guide works very well in Tier 1 burn because by turn 4 you are unloading your hand. I would warn that this goblin deck may not be at the same tier as burn, and giving your opponent card advantage can lose you games. Especially the fact that you are attacking and not casting direct damage at the player by turn 4.

+4 Tidehollow Sculler +4 Ethereal Armor +4 Vampire Nighthawk (Not super budget 5.50 for 4) +4 Duress +4 Condemn or Oust (5 Playests all proven cards) Recycle -4 Agent -4 Charm-Chalice - 4 Guildmage  - 4 Loop  Is what im thinking. I can give reasons why, but it is all theoretical and very general. In the end knowing how to play out the or "Pilot" the idea's is most important.

I am a fan of the cards Oust and Duress for budget black and white.
