General Magic / Re: Making a Commander Flow Chart

Nice! I could imagine this turning into a massive poster that I'd spend a long time staring at.

When I first started playing EDH one of the biggest helps in deck building was learning to break my decks into sections (ex Ramp, Card Draw, Removal etc). An outline with all of the sections (and maybe some staple suggestions) would have helped me.

This might be too much detail and snowball into too many versions, but I wonder if it'd be possible to make an outline that's based on commander strategies? Like for a lands matter deck Horn of Greed or Tireless tracker would be suggestion for the card draw section etc.

This probably wouldn't work for your flowchart idea, but maybe as an appendix of some kind?

I could see Fists of Flame slotting in nicely in my Feather deck. Card draw and trample and a power buff? That'll do.

5c legendary shapeshifter bro

yes, I found the commander for my next deck. now I just need to think about which tribal(s) I want to build with it ^^"

It seems like it'd be pretty good in a 5 colour dragon deck.

Deck Reviews / [Oathbreaker] Sorin and Exsanguinate

Sorin and Exsanguinate

This is my take on a Vampire Tribal/Life Drain deck. I'm trying to create as much synergy as I can so that there are lots of ways to gain life. Then I'm hoping to use that gain to damage the other players with cards like Sanguine Bond and Defiant Bloodlord or to use the life gain to buff cards like Ajani's Pridemate and Blood Baron of Vizkopa. The life gain can also be used to draw cards with Dawn of Hope and Erebos, God of the Dead. Finally, if I can get enough mana I should be able to take big swings with Exsanguinate or Corrupt.

Smothering Tithe and Revel in Riches also set up an additional win con, but they're mostly in there for ramp.

Also Elbrus, the Binding Blade because it's fun.

This is my first life gain deck and Oathbreaker is new to me, so any notes or suggestions are welcome.

Thanks.

Helm of Awakening is dangerous, I'd steer clear of it. But if you can pull it off then why not!

Is there a particular reason you're not running Steelshaper's Gift?

I'm not sure what you mean by Helm of Awakening being dangerous. Do you mean that it's overpowered?

The problem with Helm of Awakening is, that its symetrical. This could allow your opponents to kick off their combos some turns earlier, but the risk depends alot on your playgroup. As long as you think it benefits you more than them, its fine.

^This. Helm of Awakening is symmetrically nest used if most of your spells are CMC 2 and at least 1 mana is colourless. Other than that you might need to do something weird to blink it, turn it off or something. Probably too complicated for a spellslinger (as opposed to an artifact / control synergy). You have two similar options: Semblance Anvil or Cloud Key. Yes, they're 1 mana more to cast and the anvil is also card disadvantage but they really do pay off in the long run. I know I would get a lot of value from an opponent's Helm. It's a bit like Howling Mine but for mana and you can't really turn it off effectively.

Other options: Pearl Medallion, Ruby Medallion, Primal Amulet, Seal of the Guildpact

Ahhh... I see. That's a great point, I think I'll be pulling that out. Thanks to both of you for spelling it for me. I already have primal amulet in there but pearl medallion or seal of the guild pack could be interesting options. For now I may just slot in another mana rock or an extra combat trick or another cantrip....argh decisions!

Deck Reviews / Re: [Standard] Feather tickle Lumbering's Pickle

Nice concept! All of that flickering looks pretty fun to me.

BTW, Reckless Rage will come back. If Feather is out, as long as part of the spell targets a creature you control it'll come back to your hand on the end step.

I also took a look at the way you've set up your sections; I hope you noticed the token generator + Path to Exile synergy? In a nutshell: exile token, find land, a new token gets created because you cast a spell. For extra cheese Amulet of Vigor and the new land pays for Path to Exile itself letting you get all your white-producing lands into play in one go.

I'm all in on that particular synergy (it's such a great ramp combo), it's just not represented in the sections. There are a ton of cards in this deck that serve multiple functions (card draw + protection, removal + ramp, protection + buff, life gain + removal etc) so I just grouped them as best I could without making it too confusing.

I appreciate the note though!

Steelshaper's Gift was on my list but it's been hard to find and it's a bit pricy. For now I'm using Open the Armory, it's an extra mana but it should do the job. If tutoring up Sunforger becomes my priority I may track down Steelshaper's Gift and slot it in along with it. (deciding which cards to cut from this deck is a painful process - but I guess that's a good problem to have)

Hey, what about Burning Anger? If you pump Feather big enough (especially with +1/+1 counters) that aura could hit like a truck without the need of attacking (or using it after attacking if you give feather vigilance).

Feat of Resistance and Stand Firm could also be very interesting for your deck.

Btw, about Magnetic Theft: Your main target for this spell should be Sunforger, since it reduces the cost to use it by 2.

Burning anger could be really good, although I've been trying to stay away from enchantments (for synergy's sake). I really like Feat of Resistance, that could be another great protection option. Hmmmm.....

I 100% agree with you on magnetic theft. It's the first spell I tutor for once Sunforger is on the board.

I think you and I may have different definitions of the word "Casual." I think you meant to say "Eldrazi Tron (Nightmare)."

Tenth District Legionnaire could be another great one in the deck. For me, it got edged out by Phalanx Leader and Anax and Cymede. I opted for those two because they effect every creature on the board, which is great considering how wide this deck could go with all of the token generators I included (and if nothing else they'll at least pump Feather up too).

28
Thanks! Both of those cards were in contention at one point (and might still go in eventually - it's still early days for Feather). There are so many great cards to fit in the 99 of this deck it's really hard to choose. I opted for Shelter, Apostle's Blessing and Bathe in Light instead of God's willing. They all basically do the same thing with slightly different upsides - Shelter draws a card, Apostle's blessing allows me to protect artifacts (great for holding on to Sunforger and Paradox Engine) and Bath in Light can potentially protect every creature from a boardwipe. Integrity/Intervention is great too (the life gain option is a nice bit of flexibility), but I went for Martial Glory instead. It costs a bit more but it let's me potentially spread out the buff between two creatures, and I could even give half of the buff to another player for some surprise removal or to help them as a political move.

I appreciate the suggestions though! I'm always looking for new ways to tweak my decks.

That's a deadly combo. I hadn't seen Gird for Battle, I may have to pick it up. There are so many great cards that could fit in the 99 for that deck and they're all pretty fun. The biggest impact cards in my two games have been Intimidation Bolt and Impact Resonance. And of course Shelter, that ones a real MVP.

30
I built a Feather, the Redeemed deck as soon as the card was spoiled. Then I got a copy as soon as it came out. I've played two games with it so far and it's a lot of fun. It's not my most powerful deck but it may be my new favourite to play.
