I’m not as opposed as I looked, this guy is just giving bad advice with no reasoning and it’s annoying me.  Quite simply, I think merfolk functions best as a go wide strat, so I’m looking to keep a creature density close to that needed by like CoCo.  I hate champion, he’ll end up maybe a 3/3 for 2 over the course of an average game, and I just don’t think it’s worth it.  I’ve looked at waters and discussed it with some of the guys I’ve met @ GP’s, PT’s etc (No I’m not a pro, I just know people who are quite good at this game). Consensus so far was that it seemed too slow with what standard has been like.  It could be added, but it needs to be evaluated in the meta AFTER things have been brewed up to see if it’s still too slow.  The incidental tokens often don’t matter if you have nothing T3, as lots of decks are ready to start smashing your face in T4.  I’d prefer to have one of the legends (though we’ve also talked about cutting Kopala from main giving the shit nature of standard removal) or any of my other 3 drops that actively develop the board.  If things get like 1 1/2-2 turns slower, then the value might be worth it long term.

I’m not really looking to run more instants.  Without harbinger or vial I don’t have a ton of incentive to leave excess amounts of mana up.  And I’m NOT RUNNING OPT OVER A MERFOLK THAT DRAWS ME A CARD.  Seriously, it’s just not happening.  Maybe the blossoming defense/unsummon plan, cause that gives a bit more interaction.  Why are you so in love with ranger and so against Branchwalker?  I don’t get it lmao.

Honestly, I’d like to be able to debate you more effectively, but I just don’t think you understand the value of card draw on a body in tribal.  Silvergill is a 4 of staple in modern, and it can fill the same role here, as I still get lords (albeit worse ones that function differently). Getting another merfolk on the field is just too good.  Obviously not being able to vial it in is a downside, but it IS good.

And, I’m not sure about climb honestly.  Idk what I would want to run it over, it’s a good finisher, but I feel like all is cut is ranger, which is already a great card. Maybe as a 1-of, again more testing needed but it’s kinda slow for my 3 slots, since I’d like to slam wide on 4/5.

Soren, I’m going to assume you haven’t played with Silvergill Adept.  Because that theory of it being bad has been disproven by competitive play for a LONG time.  Branchwalker I could see being changed, but st the same time I feel redundancy in Silvergill-esque effects is good.  Plus, my t4 will often be either herald, Nissa (post-board) or double 2 drop, and more cycles from those double 2 drops won’t hurt.  Also, since when is a 3/2 for 2 that basically scrys bad?  I just don’t see your logic here.  I had chart a course in originally, but I think having cycle effects stapled onto merfolk is just stronger in this shell.

How exactly are they not good?  I need more explanation than that, because silvergill has been a consistently great card when I've played it in the past and branchwalker functions as essentially the same card, either drawing you something(even if its only a land) or becoming a 2 drop with good stats that psuedo-scrys.  I need a bit more depth to this answer here mate.

So, here’s the deal.  People say the 3 drop slot is hard, but the 2 drop slot has just as much macho at this point.  At 2 we have Mimic, Branchwalker, Silvergill, Mistbinder, and Elite.  I’m going to be playing silvergill because I love the card and want the cycling.  I’m playing Mistbinder cause it’s a lord.  Unconditional.  So, in my mind, it comes down to MimicvBranchwalkervElite.  Branchwalker is a close equivalent to Silvergill imo.  It helps you get through your deck, or has a pseudo-scry that turns it into a 3 power 2-drop.  But, it only counters itself, and my plan is essentially a go-wide deck with midrange size threats using Streams to guarantee damage.  So, I want either mimic or elite to spread the counters.  I ended up picking elite because in some situations I believe it works better to be able to stack the counters on a single creature.  Running Kumena is part of this, as without a herald I can still make him unblockable and swing for a ton.  While this become problematic if I run out of ways to protect my threat, Elite gives me the flexibility of having it operate in the exact same way as mimic.  So that’s why I picked that.  I suppose one of the 3 drops could be cut for mimic as well?  Testing is required.

Lo pense, pero este arquetipo tiene opciones mucho por las cartas coste tres, y no sé que corta por eso.  Los tres son muy fuerte.  Mis desculpas, yo no soy un hablante nativo.  I’m writing this with half a semester of spanish 202 under my belt, so I’m kinda clueless when it comes to colloquial and specific stuff like magic.

Harsh mentor is absolutely insane.  Its essentially a one-sided eidolon of the great revel.  I would not be surprised if it sees heavy play in Modern and even Legacy.  Not having haste isn't great, but that ability, not to mention the fact that its one-sided, is just insane in formats of fetches and powerful aritfacts/deathrites.

Ok, so a few problems and some suggestions.  Problem #1 is that the monument is legendary, so no copying.  Problem #2, at least in my opinion, is that baral is not worth it unless you're countering stuff.  So, my suggestion is to look at the inspiring statuary deck Saffron Olive made for MTGGoldfish.  I feel like it kinda falls in line with what you're trying to do.  Don't copy it exactly, I like the originality in this list, but I think it would make a stronger deck overall to incorporate some of those aspects.

Why run flayer when you have like no other payoff cards?

So, do you have like an obsession with 2-ofs?  If not then make them 4 ofs to make the deck more consistent.  The Angels can stay low, but some of the humans should definitely be raised
