I like some of the things the new series is doing.  Escalate seems to be a great addition to the game!

Deck Reviews / ConsistentSemi Competitive Discard Deck

Discard decks are obviously nothing new, but I am looking to make something that is going to be relatively consistent across 2 player or multiplayer and across colors.

Looking for suggestions for improvement on the following: https://deckstats.net/decks/42385/530821-waste-not-you-re-loss-my-gain/en

I am trying to keep mana cost down and rather than using something like Duress to get rid of one card, I want to get rid of multiple.

Thanks for taking a look!

Deck Reviews / Re: [Casual] unstopable goblins

I have a Goblin deck that is a mix of Impact Tremors with playing a bunch of 1/1 Tokens and using the other goblins to pump them up.  Goblin Piledriver with a bunch of tokens can get be a very quick deck.  Along with Zada, Hedron Grinder with some buffing (brute force is a good one drop).  I think I have won most games a Goblin Grenade.  There are a lot of great combos that you can work into a R Goblin deck, but I have found that it works best to try to have a main strategy along with a backup rather than going crazy with too many different cards.  It makes the strategy a little harder to replicate.

I have been itching to make a EDH Grenko deck and I think this is starting to give me some motivation.

Good Luck!

Deck Reviews / Re: Opinion on my first deck

If you are going for the go big and swing hard type of route you may want to add Soul's Fire.  You get to swing with the instant (potentially the same turn you bring out the big guns) and swing again when attacking.  Archetype of Aggression is also not a bad idea to have on a sideboard if you are playing against someone with a lot of little guys that keep blocking your way.  Burning Anger is a late game ender, but in a couple of rounds it can take one of your big creatures and just snipe away.

Good luck!

Hey KouriNick, thanks for the suggestions!  I can definitely see adding Negate, Tamiyo's Journal, and Proteus Staff.  Now the million dollar question is what to take out.  I am like the idea of Merfolk Looter and Thought Courier for cycling through the deck, but with Talrand it is taking two (weaker creatures) instead of instants and sorceries.  I feel like the hardest thing with these EDH decks is narrowing down to 100.

We have just recently gotten into EDH and my playgroup has decided to put together a $40 deck challenge.  Basically each player has to come with a deck that you can buy today for less than $40 (not including basic lands).  I have two decks that I think would be fun, but not sure which one is "better" (keeping in mind I am not going against any decks over $40).

One is a complete control deck with Talrand, Sky Summoner and Swinging with a bunch of 2/2 Flying: https://deckstats.net/decks/42385/516810-talrand-sky-summoner-edh-budge/en

The other is more of crank out a bunch of Dragons early in the game, then have the ability to disregard my commander later in the game when I have enough mana to drop dragons (or heavy burn) later on the game: https://deckstats.net/decks/42385/529057-jhoira-the-khaleesi-of-edh/en

Neither are completely new ideas; however, I had spent a bunch of time trying to get the most bang for the buck with each deck.  As of right now, each one is around $35 on TCG although Deckstats has it around $45.

If I am way off on both, I am open to other suggestions.

Thanks for the help guys.

My group is pretty lax, all just for fun.  We play the "that's bullshit" rule.  We are all just getting into EDH, were going to buy something pre-made at first, but I am assuming that most of the decks will be junk and it would be more fun to try to start something from scratch.  I am trying to keep it relatively budget (at least for now), which I should have mentioned earlier.  This way if I can't get the rest of the guys to continue, I won't be sitting with a $200 deck that is getting dusty.  Crypt Ghast looks great and I have to see what other mana's would help accelerate.  Not sure what the rule of thumb for mana is for EDH so I am playing it by ear and will probably have some trial and error.

It looks like on TCG Player you can get 4 Kultath Knight for around $8...card priced keep changing.  I subbed out Septic Rats, Blowfly Infestation, and Kulrath Knight (took too long to get the mana out) for Caress of Pherexia, Necroskitter (great combo with Midnight Banshee to steal all of your opponents creatures) and Whispering SpecterContagion Clasp is a must for this deck.  It always seems to win me the match.

Forgot to add Caress of Phyrexia as well.  Can be a game ender.

Using a similar deck that has Necroskitter.  Let me tell you, the first response I always get is "you have to be kidding me"
