General Magic / Re: Games you've enjoyed
« on: February 14, 2024, 04:28:37 am »
Was playing a game this weekend using Neera, Wild Mage against Tegwyll, Duke of Splendor, The Scarab God, and Willowdusk, Essence Seer.
The game was not really going my way, I was getting mana flooded and not drawing into anything that would make creature tokens to use the Polymorph from my opening hand to get my Displacer Kitten. The most I had managed to do was get a few spells to draw cards, netting a bunch more lands and a Shifting Shadow, get an Aria of Flame out, and drop Stasis Field on The Scarab God.
Eventually I happened to draw into Chaotic Transformation and used it on a bunch of their stuff and my own Stasis Field since The Scarab God said they'd lay off me for a turn if I got rid of it. I immediately reveal Omniscience, which obviously worries everyone and they beat me as close to death as they can manage.
Next turn I draw into my Displacer Kitten and bait out counters with Polymorph aimed at their stuff and a couple other spells before casting the Kitten, then Neera, and finally Shifting Shadow to set off the infinite Grapeshot loop.

The fact that my deck did what it was supposed to do, and won, wasn't quite what made it so enjoyable as it was just dropping an Omniscience on everyone out of nowhere.

Commander Discussion / Re: Simic didn't need this, but I love it anyway
« on: February 13, 2024, 09:15:09 pm »
The only Simic deck I have is Slogurk, the Overslime. The ideal would be to hit Biowaste Blob, Retreat to Kazandu, and as many lands as possible, preferably Evolving Wilds variants, to make it stupidly huge and just one shot people. Other stupid targets would be Altar of the Brood, Scute Swarm, and Rampaging Baloths.

General Magic / Re: Lithoform Engine makes copy tokens right?
« on: February 09, 2024, 11:11:46 pm »
Lithoform Engine's last ability only copies a permanent spell. You can not copy a 3/3 Phyrexian Golem Token, or any other permanent on the battlefield for that matter, because none of that is a spell. It has to be on the stack to be a spell.
For example, you cast Master Splicer. Before it resolves you can pay an additional 4 mana to to get a second Master Splicer. The copy Splicer will enter, make a golem, then the real splicer will enter and make a golem. After which not a single one of these are viable targets for the Engine's last ability.

For Mr. House, President and CEO to work with the Lithoform Engine you need to pay 2 and target his triggered or activated abilities while they are on the stack.

Actually, rereading that, are you talking about the deck builder rather than the actual function of the cards? In that case, yeah it should be making copy tokens. There are just some cards that make copies that slip through the cracks, I know of Delina, Wild Mage getting overlooked for sure since my deck for her won't put one in for her with the Detect Tokens function.

Commander Discussion / Re: Your Go-To Lands

I'm hoping these get reprinted into oblivion, just like the scry lands have been.
The names are super generic so they should be able to fit them in where ever they feel like, on top of just tossing them in every other commander precon from here on out. The trick is just convincing someone at WotC to actually put these in decks over the Temples.

Generally speaking I'll never go out of my way to include $10+ lands. If I ever luck into them I may include them in decks I play frequently, but they'll never be a go to thing.

Field of Ruin and Demolition Field see pretty regular use from me regardless of the deck, Scavenger Grounds to a lesser extent as well.
Draw heavy decks get Reliquary Tower.
Combat focused decks get Rogue's Passage and Access Tunnel. The new Escape Tunnel is also likely to see some consideration.
Mono colored decks get War Room, they may also get various cycling lands (Barren Moor, Slippery Karst, etc.) or, if I particularly like the deck, Castles (Castle Locthwain, etc.). The colored deserts (Desert of the True, Ramunap Ruins, etc) will also be fairly common in anything running Scavenger Grounds
White and Green get nothing additional in particular outside of things matching the deck's goals.
Blue gets Mystic Sanctuary.
Black gets Bojuka Bog, Mortuary Mire, and Witch's Cottage.
Red tends to get additional draw lands like The Autonomous Furnace and Bonders' Enclave to help get cards without time limited exiling frustration.
Multicolored I tend to go for Temples (Temple of Malice, etc.) or cheaper, often conditionally, untapped duals (Port Town, Llanowar Wastes, Sunken Hollow, etc.). Depending on how much the new surveil lands (Commercial District, etc) get reprinted I may start putting them in like the Temples

Commander Discussion / Re: Banlist Justifications
« on: February 01, 2024, 07:50:52 pm »
The "It's too expensive so ban" is asinine, but "It strips players of agency without outright ending the game" is pretty far up there too. Keeping anyone from doing anything until you can pull one of the few wincons you have is the entire point of stax type decks, so why are there not a lot more cards banned under that excuse too?

Deck Reviews / Re: [Card List] All of the Tribal Cards in Magic

Based on your inclusion of Arcane Adaptation, I do believe Rukarumel, Biologist should also be in the list for Non-Specific Tribe since she's basically that in the command zone.

Commander Deck Reviews / Re: Judith Boardwipes

I should probably update everyone on what's happening with this deck.
Sadistic Glee or Blade of the Bloodchief would allow Judith to start swinging for lethal after a good wipe or two to help close out the game.
Vicious Shadows would similarly allow you to quickly kill people off after any given wipe.

Sadistic Glee and Blade of the Bloodchief would make this a completely different build. I would need to take out at least 8 creatures to make Judith lethal in two hits. Anything less and it's three hits. That gives a lot of time for my opponents to prepare. I'm not going to use them for now but I may revisit it.

Eye of Vecna and Greed are pretty good ways to draw when you need it.
Magar of the Magic Strings allows you to keep repeating your spells, including your draw ones, as your 3/3s will have no problem getting through when you're constantly spamming wipes.

I was already thinking about adding Magar, and this was the last little bit of encouragement I needed. Greed has also been added in, as I've had good results with it in the past. Eye of Vecna I definitely won't use. I do not want to pay an extra 2 mana each turn and 2 life for only 1 card. Phyrexian Arena gives a much better rate, and even that card I'm on the fence about.
Fair enough on the Sadistic Glee and Blade of the Bloodchief thing. I have a pretty token fast and heavy meta so in my case she'd quickly start getting one hit kills on people, if you're not confident on hitting 8+ quick I can see not using them.

Also, while the rate on Phyrexian Arena is better over a long period of time I do find the Eye of Vecna coming down earlier and giving a card immediately to be a pretty nice trade since people are quick to blow up anything that gives you a lot of draw over time. The option to not pay anything if you're already good on cards is a minor perk in my mind as well, even if the second and on draws cost more. If that's not as much a concern in your group, I can again see the decision to avoid it.

Thought of another card you may want to consider, Flick a Coin. With Judith it's a kill spell that also ramps and draws. Not quite sure on a suggestion for it to replace though.

General Magic / Re: Question about land
« on: January 24, 2024, 08:38:36 am »
Ah thank you, so if i cast a spell with this mana, in the next turns does this mana can be used for other spells or creature?
No, if you cast a spell you've used up that mana and don't have it anymore.
Even if you don't use it, mana won't even make it to the next turn, outside of a few special abilities from certain other cards, as it is normally lost after each phase. For example tapping a Forest for green mana during your main phase and not using it then going to combat you've lost it and can't use it to cast Blossoming Defense.

You will, however, get to untap your land on your next turn under most normal circumstances in order to generate mana once again.

General Magic / Re: Question about deathtouch
« on: January 21, 2024, 12:24:28 am »
Deathtouch simply means that 1 point of damage is lethal to creatures. In this particular case, with these exact stats, both die.

If either of them had First or Double Strike, then the one with said ability would survive unless both had it then once again both die.
If the 3/3 had Trample, it would be allowed to assign 2 damage to the defending player when it attacks as it only has to assign 1 to the 6/6.

The original Ravnica story had Agrus Kos solving a mystery, so it's not really all that out of place.
The sudden shift in fashion for everyone does leave it feeling like the cards should've been from Capenna.

Please note that it is not dealing any damage with that ability. It is direct loss of life.
Damage triggers, reduction, prevention, and multipliers will not interact with that card's ability, nor will Lifelink for that matter.
