Commander Deck Reviews / Re: Group Hug that Wins?

I should mention that the deck attempts to draw itself out and win with lab man, or pump up Kenny and make him unblockable.  Hold those unblockable equips in you're hand till you're ready to eliminate someone, they will draw too much attention on the board as you're pumping up your commander.  There's no reason to be seen as a threat until you're ready to win

Group Hug that wins?  Yes.  I was shocked at how fun this deck is to play.  Everyone is drawing cards, getting to play thier stuff, and you are going to have a fun, fast game, with almost no chance of going 3 hours.  Everyone gets to play thier stuff, you stick around and win out of no where.

Theres a short, recap style of this deck in action on my new youtube channel, the goal is to be funny so I hope you laugh.

Comments and questions on the deck would be greatly appreciated.  I hope you're having a great day!

And just to give you a baseline, here's how much ramp I run in other lists

Kodama + Ikra Shidiqi - 20
Rinn + Seri - 17
Tiamat - 32
Phenax (combat) - 16
Phenax (combo) - 17
Xanathar - 21
Athreos + Lurrus - 7 (all permanents are 2 CMC or less)
Breena - 16
Sygg, River Cutthroat - 19
K'rrik - 20
Grolnok - 20
Ramos, Dragon Engine - 20
Kenrith Group Hug - 25
Rith The Awakener - 17

I think the logic that they turn to dead draws, while true, is flawed.  I would liken to it not running enough lands in your deck, and when asked why you say, well they are dead draws after a certain point.  Yea, but...getting to the right velocity is important.

You're definitely right about deck thinning not really being a thing.  There are a couple of exceptions, if you can pull 10+ lands out of your deck, it really will make a difference.  As for the ramp though, if you are drawing enough cards, mana will always be an issue and ramping is the most powerful thing you can do in all of commander.

As an example I put forth my Yuriko List (3.49 avg CMC - 16 ramp) and Bruenor list (3.09 CMC 18 ramp) as lists that don't really need ramp, but get more powerful the more ramp i play.    Both can be seen in action on youtube, with short videos that (i hope) are funny

Well, anything is better with black, but Grolnok is an incredibly strong commander.  I really think you need to get away from the speed, and lean more into the velocity.  A couple of add suggestions would be Millikin and Deranged Assistant, these are great in grolnok because essentially its a mana dork that draws a card, assuming grolnok is out, and they still keep you on curve for your turn 3 commander drop.  But it looks like your'e aiming to do things much faster than that. Still, Millikin and Deranged Assistant would probably outperform Utopia Sprawl and Elvish Spirit Guide in this list.

Which brings me to my next point, is this a CEDH list?  You can't really drop to mid-range while keeping your Thoracle wincon, and I think this deck has PL 8 written all over it.

I'm curious, are any of you other people building Yuriko as a ninja tribal now that Kamigawa is out?

I like the work here.

general advice: I am convinced that the deck will be more enjoyable over time with the removal of tutors, as you'll really get that variance that the format is all about

specific advice: I know the number 10 is floated around by many content creators as an acceptable amount of ramp....I just don't know why.  The probability of pulling no ramp by turn 4 is an astounding 40 percent. Some decks can get away with the bare minimum, and to me, thats 14.  Opposite of reasons to think that you don't need mana, which may exist, I try to get decks to 17, with some of my decks running as much as 31

I love the deck!  If anyone is missing the point of the commander, its you.  Which has led to a really cool brew.  I resoundingly agree though that the samurai route is not great.  My only suggestion, which is evergreen, take out the tutors and get what you get!

I built commander for a friend who is just getting back into mtg after 15 years off, and if you have time I was wondering if you could give me some pointers on it, it hasn't been played yet and you seem to be very knowledgeable on Isshin.

Aye, good eye...but nay, most of my decks contain 101 cards, and I think of the extra card as a "good luck card" although I suspect this is just a way of not pulling cards that I've become painfully attached to.  This deck was even up to 107 cards at one point, anytime I'm over 102 I make it part of my rule 0 discussion to disclose.  No opponent has had a problem with it yet, probably because a deck is inevitably fractionally weaker with additional exclusions, unless you're playing some type of group mill strategy.

I'm really in love with this deck, and it's tuned up enough to present to the community.  Questions, cuts/adds suggestions all highly accepted.  You can see this deck in action, a short recap guaranteed to make you laugh, on my new youtube channel, Ace's Tavern.  It's brand new, so any support there would be appreciated as well.
