Deck Reviews / [Standard] Mono-White Token/Counter/Devotion
« on: May 02, 2015, 07:10:26 am »
My first ever mono-white. Shout-out and thanks to a wonderful person who doesn't have an account on here for donating some of these and a few other cards to my collection. You're the real MVP.

Win through a swarm of tokens with counters or normal creatures with counters or any mixture of the two. Haven't play-tested yet. Play damage control through Hold at Bay, Acolyte's Reward, Banishing Light, and Deicide. Hold at Bay and Acolyte's Reward will activate Heroic abilities. Also have Launch the Fleet, Dauntless Onslaught, and Gift of Immortality for activating Heroic and keeping aggro capabilities up. Most creatures give two devotion, so devotion for Acolyte's Reward and Evangel of Heliod isn't hard to build. Godsend thrown in there because why the hell not.

My favourite combinations are Launch the Fleet or Gift of Immortality with Evangel of Heliod. Casting Launch The Fleet on your turn after you cast Evangel of Heliod will maximize the effect, essentially doubling the amount of tokens you have. Gift of Immortality will cause it to return to the battlefield, activating it's effect, thereby making your opponent afraid to so much as attack or go anywhere near that EoH, and giving you an alright blocker.

Modified to try making it more straight aggro. Thinking that this version is the one I might buy. Considered adding Herald of Dromoka for Vigilance but decided against it. Thanks for the feedback, by the way (: I really appreciate it. I wasn't so sure about Outpost Siege, just because I don't see it as all that useful. If you could explain to me why it would be useful I'd appreciate that as well. Thanks again!

Hello all. I'm making my second Standard deck, this time a Mardu. Warrior focus (real original, I know) but I'm not sure what cards exactly I should use from the list I've made.

1 Alesha, Who Smiles at Death ?

General Magic / Is a Soulfire Grand Master worth trading for Athreos?

Question is in the title.

This is my first Standard deck, or at least my first deck purposely made for Standard, that I intend to take to FNM and develop further over time. Right now it's a Jeskai, or at least uses those three colours. I might like to change it to only two colours at some point, but I really like this three-colour mix. The main strategy is to buff creatures every turn using instants, playing a little bit of control with the blue and white cards in the sideboard, as well as the burns available in the deck. An enchantment deck might be better than an instant, but this is also my first draft. Thanks for looking, and again, please leave your opinion, advice, or critique!

It seems pretty balanced to me, but I like having more zombie cards in this block. Aside from the zombies in Silumgar, I can see myself playing Kolaghan, or more likely, Atarka splash another colour, maybe keep the other colour in the sideboard. I wasn't able to make it to the prerelease; would anyone mind sharing their opinions about what colour combinations worked well?

Seems like it would do really well, actually. Nice job mixing the two. Whenever I've tried to do that it's ended in failure, although I'm now trying again with that to make a U/R/W out of my U/R and U/W. How long does it usually take for a win? any usual win/loss ratio?

General Magic / So I got my first KTK and FRF boosters,
« on: February 03, 2015, 04:01:25 pm »
just yesterday. I bought two Khans and 3 Fate Reforged. Really not sure what to think; I have the start of what looks like a good Jeskai build, maybe Temur or Abzan. but I'm really not sure what to do here. I got a better draw from my Fate Reforged boosters than I did from my Khans of Tarkir, in my opinion.
This is my first time making a deck specifically for Standard. I have a couple different decks made from almost entirely Nyx and Theros cards, so I can take from them if necessary. U/R bounce/burn, B/R minotaurs, B/W life-gain, U/W unblockable, W/R aggro, and a G/W devotion. Will write up decklists if anyone is interested in helping me or offering advice.

ANYTHING NOT MARKED WITH A NUMBER IS COUNTED AS x1.

So uh, what's going on with this? Not like there are copyrights involved, but pretty sure this deck was made by a user named Notchbeard..

This seems like it would kill everything. I have a lot of experience against Goblin decks and they can be some of the meanest in the game so I don't understand why this has so few likes, aside from not being seen as much as it deserves.

Thanks a ton! That's definitely a good idea. I started getting a headache deciding with the mana costs, hence the W.I.P., haha.

I feel the need to ask because this is in your "Owned" folder; how well does it play? I assume that deckstats.net can only calculate so much before luck and chance factor in.

No criticism here; just thought I'd say I like the strategies you've put forward. I've made a couple of Sliver decks myself, this same combo being one of them. Nice job dude.

Deck Reviews / Re: GREEN BEAST DECK
« on: January 03, 2015, 04:13:20 am »
Well, not that they're bad cards, but for a beast deck, this has surprisingly few beasts. One card you might want to look at is Advocate of The Beast . He gives one beast you control a +1/+1/ counter on your end step. With a couple of those buggers out, you can have some mean per-turn ramping.
Green/red is also a good option for Beast decks if you don't mind multi-colour decks.
I have a green/red Beast deck that I'm waiting to order until my usual website has all the cards in stock, and I'm expecting it to do well, although it could use some card-cutting. It has a lot of good cards, and might be useful to look at for reference.
Good luck! (:
