King Macar, the Gold-Cursed

I don't get to play a whole lot of commander and am trying to set up a list for a second deck before I start trading off for it.  This wouldn't be super competitive, but seems like it would offer good ramp and control.  Looking for anything I may have overlooked.  Does it seem like it would do alright to people who play more commander than I get to?

Queen Marchesa

Pretty new to commander, I like the idea of a paranoid/mad monarch type of deck here.  I have some win con combos in there, Triskelion/Necrotic Ooze/Phyrexian Devourer/Mikaeus, the Unhallowed and Nahiri, the Harbinger/Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker/Zealous ConscriptsApproach of the Second Sun is another win condition.  I was considering adding Altar of Dementia and also Blood Artist as more ways to win.  I like the idea of being protected and just being able to go off if I want to.

Just looking for things I may have missed, combos that work in this color, or anything themed that may be fun to add in.  I've mostly been playing with my roommates, though I would like to figure out a deck I enjoy to play out in local shops and such for fun.

General constructive criticism is welcome too.  Is my curve high?  Am I missing out on some lands?  I'd like to make this as clean as I can  :)

I'd think Fatal Push would be a bit better than Time to Reflect, since you've got to bait them into the exile with Time to Reflect.  If they've got something with an effect helping them that you want to remove you wouldn't be able to unless they play into your plan.  Scarab Feast in your sideboard would let you exile something once you've removed it if it's something they can recur that would be a real problem.

Never // Return would fit here well.  Planeswalker removal, gy hate for recursion, AND it will give you a zombie :D  two if you have your enchantment out.

I have a feeling 4x Liliana's Mastery would help you much more than keeping the 2x From Under the Floorboards

Dread Wanderer and Collective Brutality would be thing's I'd consider here as well.  Controlling their hand can be important.  Transgress the Mind being in the sideboard should be a consideration as well in my opinion.

Deck Reviews / [Commander] Teysa, Orzhov Scion

I don't play a whole lot of commander, so I've been looking things up and trying to make something work for a commander I really like, Teysa, Orzhov Scion.  I have a limited playgroup and don't currently own all the cards I'd need for this right now, but I'd love some feedback from people with commander experience or anyone with a cool idea :D

https://deckstats.net/decks/54324/724640--teysa-orzhov-scion/en

Description:
"Ideally, we just infinite combo out with Teysa, Orzhov Scion via Darkest Hour/Painter's Servant turning spirit tokens black and sacrificing over and over with Blasting Station, Ashnod's Altar, Altar of Dementia, winning either through their effects or through
Zulaport Cutthroat or Blood Artist.

Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth + Kormus Bell + Linvala, Keeper of Silence or Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite: Urborg turns all lands into swamps, and the Bell turns all swamps into 1/1 creatures. Linvala stops your opponent's lands from ever tapping for mana. Elesh Norn gives them -2/-2, destroying them. Either way, your opponents don't get to have lands anymore. Vandalblast their mana rocks so they have no mana available to cast anything, then slowly beat them to death with a rusty spoon.

Sun Titan + Blood Artist + Nim Deathmantle + Ashnod's Altar. Cast the Titan, bringing back Artist, then sacrifice both to the Altar to make four mana, draining two with the Artist. Use that mana to pay for the Deathmantle, bring back the Titan, which brings back the Artist. Repeat the loop until your opponents are dead. There are many variations of this combo.

Extortion through Crypt Ghast and Pontiff of Blight could be a big thing with a lot of tokens out as well.  With all the life gain unless I get comboed out first I feel I'd be able to handle a lot of early aggro. "

I don't play a whole lot of standard, but here are some cards for consideration.

Harsh Scrutiny, Scarab Feast, Never // ReturnTransgress the Mind could be good in your sideboard as well.  Controlling their hand can be such an advantage, not to mention just seeing their potential.
Scarab Feast can keep them from getting the stuff you've taken away back, too.  If nothing else cycle is cool.

Deck Reviews / Teysa, Orzhov Scion [Modern]

I was having a hard time making a deck around Teysa, Orzhov Scion.  Most of what I saw for her was commander decks, so I tried to put one together myself.

https://deckstats.net/decks/54324/550192-teysa-orzhov-scion/en

I was considering Darkest Hour as an additional way with the Painter's Servant to allow for infinite sacrifices by turning the white spirits black, making either an army of spirits to overwhelm with or Blasting Station for lolyouredead.  Looking for anything I might have missed.

I was just looking for some feedback and an overview of if I missed anything major on this discard focused rat deck.

https://deckstats.net/decks/54324/520945-rat/en

Swarmyard was something MASSIVE I didn't know was a thing, which makes Swarm of Rats and Pack Rat soooo much better.  I was gone for a long time, so anything rat related you think I missed please point out  ;D

I had Urge to Feed and Feast of Blood in it for the thematic effect, but when my creatures got burned or I was trading hard the feast of blood was dead in my hand :(

You know, I totally spaced out on bloodghast.  I would love to get a set of him for sure, not sure on who I'd swap out for him though.  Gatekeepers are sooo nice for the forced sac, I think I'd bump the highborn for the ghast?

I had some vampire nocturnus in my deck previously, just 2 like you brought up, but I found him to be very inconsistent, even with my low land count :(

Call the Bloodline + Indulgent Aristocrat I hadn't considered.  That seems like it would be fun to try out, as you say beyond 3 land I'm pretty much set and I've been in positions where thats what's in my hand with nothing to do x.x it's a bad feeling lol.

Thank you very much for the feedback you gave me some good stuff to consider and test out :D

Was just looking for some constructive criticism on my vampire deck.  I think it counts as tribal?  I'm trying to keep the deck vampire based, right now I don't have the aether vials and have Bloodchief Ascension in place of them currently.  I was thinking maybe Sorin, Lord of Innistrad would be good to splash in with the captivating vampires to be dirty and steal my enemies.  Any and all ideas are welcome, as long as we keep this vampires :D

General Magic / Re: How do you pay for MTG? Budget Tips
« on: April 30, 2016, 06:15:36 am »
The "buying singles and not packs" is really the best way to save in this game.  Buying packs is gambling.  This site is an awesome resource for trying to lay out decks and seeing how potentially effective the deck can be with starting hands and whatnot.  Think of something you'd enjoy, ask on the forums for idea or even just google deck builds.  A good example of this working was I posted a black and white deck on this site, asked for help.  Got feedback, refined the deck, then went out and spent ~100 dollars making it.  My roommate has purchased 4 booster boxes now (i told him not to >.>) and he doesn't even compete with my deck.  I don't know anyone who makes the game pay for itself though, you'd probably have to win tournaments.  Any sealed tournament would boost your chance at winning though, if you're just starting out.  Again, looking at effective builds will give you an idea of combinations people use so that you can effectively draft a working deck.  Good luck with your new hobby though :D  Drugs would have been cheaper.

Any reason 1 of each thing?  I'd probably remove the non vampires if you're going for a theme.

As for things with vampire flavor.  Blade of the Bloodchief, Malakir Bloodwitch, Captivating Vampire, Urge to Feed, Kalastria Highborn, Vampire Hexmage, Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief, Drana, Liberator of Malakir, Feast of Blood

I've been looking around trying to find decks with orzhov theme, but they all seem to be very different than what I have.  Like I own none of the cards they'd need XD  I guess I'll save tweaking that one for later.

As far as the rats go, what would you suggest removing other than the 1-2 pack rats to make room for all those other rats (2 drainpipe, 1 ravenous, X typhoid)?  I figured Hymn to Tourach was good for a Mind Rot like effect, but at less cost.  I assumed between the other discards and my rats it won't matter if I'm choosing or they're random discards, they won't be able to do as much as they'd like to.  Should I be keeping Quest for the Nihil Stone in there or do you think the Shrieking Afflictions and The Racks will do enough work for me while I'm getting a ratstorm going?

I do see the advantage in the skirmishing that first strike INSTANTS would give me, in my head I was more relying on trading advantageously until I got Crumbling Ashes + Blowfly Infestation or Necroskitter out.  Again would you have any suggestions on what I would remove to make space for new spells?  Corrosive MentorSoul Snuffers?

You've got a lot of awesome suggestions for this black/red Rakdos deck that's making me want to build it more than I originally did.  Things like Shadows of the Past and Traitorous Blood are why I'm here asking for help :D  I had no idea those were a thing and unless I look through the thousands of cards they probably would have slipped my notice, Traitorous Blood especially since I really don't play much other than black and mixed with black.  You gave me a lot of awesome things to think about on this one.  What do you think about Chandra, the Firebrand being in that deck?  Or a planeswalker in general good for that deck.  They're new and shiny to me XD  I redid that deck, but I'm going to have to retool it again, it doesn't look right.

I think I'll try and retool the B/G to a mill deck like you pointed out with that synergy it has, I've never had a deck with that mechanic and it might make for a nice change of pace.

I appreciate your thought out post :D  it was super helpful and gave me a lot of directions to go in.  Gave me a lot of cool ideas, thank you.  When I've got some time I'm definitely going to go through all of them and try to refine them.

Deck Reviews / Just started back up

As the title says, I'm just starting back up so I've been trying to make some decks so I know what I want when I go out trying to trade my old stuff for some new.  I would love it if anyone would be kind enough to look over a few of the decks I've made and let me know if I've missed out on anything that would be key to improving the decks I've made.  When I sort through all the new cards I keep finding better and better ones, I'm bound to have missed something  ;D

I had traded a friend for some new stuff that kind of fit with my old stuff, so the current deck I physically own is this one

The ones I've made that I think I'll enjoy and would love some critique on - Rats/Discard, Wither, Rakdos

A final deck that I have some golgari for already I was trying to get a sacrifice theme going on it, I'm not sure on how it would work out though, if anyone has tips on it I would welcome them.
