About Deckstats / Re: Beta-Test: Your Collection
« on: February 12, 2016, 09:57:07 am »
Can you add a way to import all cards from a deck into the collection? That would eliminate me having to type all the cards in twice (once in the deckbuilder, and again into my collection).

If I save a deck here on deckstats, and it says it's legal for such and such, is that always 100% accurate, or should I take that with a grain of salt?

When does the time-frame for standard cards run off the back end? What sets are current for standard? For how much longer? I don't have any new cards, so I need to know what's worth investing in a box of and what's about to be outdated soon. I know oath of the gatewatch is new enough, is battle for zendikar also worth buying at this point, or it is almost too old to use?

Can you explain what you mean by "removal"? Like, what would I put in the search at gatherer to find cards that have that? Do you mean all cards that do things like "destroy target creature" thus "removing" it from play? I am new at this game. If you could give me some keywords to use to find "removal" cards via gatherer, that would be helpful, thanks!

Apparently I lost my ability to count on that one, thanks for the head's up. I replaced it with a Flamespeaker Adept, seem reasonable now?

I haven't played enough to know/decide on a strategy yet. I know I'll suck at control, I lack patience. My TL deck is.. um, no strategy really. I just found all the decent enough cards I had that were 1 color and under 3 in cost. I can't imagine many people play long games on TL decks? do they? It's so few cards, I would think you'd have to play it aggressively, which is why I chose red, more fast acting stuff. Isn't all small deck mono red aggro?

General Magic / Tiny Leaders, tell me the weaknesses in this deck

https://deckstats.net/decks/57057/415106-tlr is my first Tiny Leaders deck (or as close as I could get reading the rules at various sites online - DO tell me if it's wrong). I'm a brand new player, and it turns out that at my local shop this is the version they play that I can use my mostly Vintage cards in (I don't have a lot of Modern stuff yet and most their Friday night Magic events require Modern). This is what I threw together with what I had leftover after making other decks (gatherer says they are all legal in Vintage, so I assume they are all legal in TL). It doesn't have a strategy - it's cobbled together with spares... but if you see any tendencies/potential, please do point it out. I have no idea what I am doing. I've only played 4 or 5 games.

I'm perfectly happy to buy more cards for it (make suggestions for replacements), but if you could advise on the weaknesses (in a way a toddler could understand), that would be very helpful. I also have another < 3 red commander, Tuktuk the Explorer. Can you have more than 1 legendary creature in TL decks? I just put the stronger one in. I've not played it yet to know how it will work, would be good to know and maybe fix any serious flaws before actually playing it. If this is ridiculously weaker than what's typically played, I'd like to know before embarrassing myself (I'd rather that happen here then in real life). Thanks!

General Magic / a question about results at gatherer
« on: February 02, 2016, 12:48:17 am »
I'm confused by the website at https://gatherer.wizards.com

Can anyone explain (yes I clicked help and read their instructions which were no help already) what it means when you look up a card, and tab to Sets and Legality, when it looks like this:

This card has restrictions in the following formats:
Format    Legality
Modern    Legal
Urza Block    Legal
Legacy    Legal
Vintage    Legal
Freeform    Legal
Prismatic    Legal
Tribal Wars Legacy    Legal
Singleton 100    Legal
Commander    Legal

So is it legal or does it have restrictions as it says above?! I'm unsure how to read this. It clearly states "This card has restrictions in the following formats" but then also clearly states "Legal". And I have no idea how to interpret that. I'm not just asking about this one card, I'm trying to learn how to understand their website and the results on every card. Are they just trying to say "This card has restrictions AS LISTED BELOW"?

On Mycosynth Lattice it says "All permanents are artifacts in addition to their other types." Does that mean ALL permanents on the table, all players, or just the permanents of the one who played it? I'm confused because other cards specifically state "that you control", whereas this card does not, so does that mean it converts ALL permanents, not just the ones you control?

How about that "Draw a card at the beginning of the next turn's upkeep"? Anyone care to explain how that works? Is that every time so long as the card is on the battlefield, or just once the very next turn?

Also, I see another card that says "Equipped creature gets +2/+0 and has vigilance and 'At the beginning of your upkeep, draw a card.'" So is that an extra card draw?

Point out some cards that will draw me an extra card, please?

I hadn't even considered watching videos to learn this stuff. I'm used to things with instruction manuals I can read and know everything from. That being said, that link is so broken it's unsalvagable. But I get your point, lmgtfy, thanks. :|

There are a few kinds of enchantments, auras are just one kind. There are also permanent enchantments, which generally affect the board every turn or when something happens (Palace Siege) and aura curses, which enchant a player (curse of the bloody tome).

Thanks, that is exactly what I wanted to know!

You can cast sorceries only during your main phases when the stack is empty and you have priority, not anytime during your turn.
The turn is divided this way :

Beginning Phase
    Untap Step
    Upkeep Step
    Draw Step
Main Phase
Combat Phase
     Beginning of Combat Step
     Declare Attackers Step
     Declare Blockers Step
     Combat Damage Step
     End of Combat Step
Main Phase
Ending Phase
     End Step
     Cleanup Step

I know the stages. It's the details I can't read online in tutorials (I have read many of them) I am missing. I know when I can cast a sorcery, but no where does it say how many (someone else has answered that here now, but that is just one example of how the online tutorials are lacking and why I am coming here asking questions). That's the problem with all the tutorials online, they list steps like you just did, with no details as to what actually happens in those steps. Here's an example:
"Main Phase: Most of the game's actions happen during the main phase. With the exception of Instants, cards can only be played during a player's main phase. There are two main phases each turn: one before and one after the combat phase."
Yeah, but it says absolutely nothing about the order you play inside that phase, how many cards you can play, etc. Never in any of the tutorials I have read so far did it say "Main Phase 1 (pre-combat), if you have sorceries you want to cast, do this FIRST, you may cast as many as you can afford, you will not be able to cast sorceries after you play creatures or instants."
It's like teaching someone how to make pudding like this:
Kitchen
Milk
Vanilla
Cocoa
Sugar
Cornstarch
Stove
Done
I don't know how anyone manages to learn the game using the tutorials given outside of coming to a forum like this and asking for further clarification (so I'm really glad forums like this actually exist). If anyone has a link to a detailed tutorial/rulebook/guide, please do share the link.

Next question:

"When ________ enters the battlefield, draw a card at the beginning of the next turn's upkeep."

Next turn=the person after you, your next opponent, right (I assume in groups this game is played clockwise)? So I would draw a card during their upkeep phase?
Draw a card just that once, when it first "enters the battlefield", or every time from then on until it is removed from the battlefield?

13
sorcery's can only be cast when there are no other spells on the stack and when its your turn(you have priority on your turn)
you can cast as many as you want during your turn.

Just might make a side note that every rule in this game can be broken:)

Thanks.
and
Noted.

300. General

300.1. The card types are artifact, conspiracy, creature, enchantment, instant, land, phenomenon, plane, planeswalker, scheme, sorcery, tribal, and vanguard.
300.2. Some objects have more than one card type (for example, an artifact creature). Such objects combine the aspects of each of those card types, and are subject to spells and abilities that affect either or all of those card types.
300.2a An object that’s both a land and another card type (for example, an artifact land) can only be played as a land. It can’t be cast as a spell.
300.2b Each tribal card has another card type. Casting and resolving a tribal card follow the rules for casting and resolving a card of the other card type.

Seems like this is information that might clear up multiple questions.

What I am still left wanting to know is are there any cards that are Enchantments other than Auras? So Cursebreak has no use in the game other than killing Auras? I only have a small quantity of cards, but none of the ones I have seem to have any other type of Enchantment other than the Aura type. Are there other types of Enchantments? And if so, what are a few (examples, please)?

And another question (answer in any order):

Can you only cast one sorcery per turn? Or as many as you can afford? I know they have to be played in the first main phase (before anything else other than putting down a land?), but I have not found in the tutorials if there's a limit to quantity.
