Spawn of Mayhem is awesome and should be there.  Try to add in a couple of copies of Ill-gotten gains as well!  It's FREE spectacle every turn starting turn 4 - how nice that theater cost 3 :) and it pings you up one life as well as pings them down one life.  Great common.

I like it.  Did something similar but used spells and treasure maps along with revel and tax.  Lots of removal and primal amulets to double down on spells.  Especially useful with afterlife creatures to cast a wipe using primal - first copy goes kills afterlife critters, afterlife critters get put on the stack and enter battlefield, then second copy of wipe goes off. super nice with revel out!

All that said your's looks like it can get there faster, so i'm gonna try it out.  thanks for sharing.

this deck is the reason I mainboard ritual of soot, settle the wreckage, or other across the board pings.  This strategy has to win by the time it empties it hand or it has lost.  I don't find it much fun to play against nor do I enjoy piloting it - but i know lots of players do.  Players mulligan down till they have an unblockable creature and curious obsession with one island.  Often times a turn 1 shock
on the unblockable leads to a concede.  The nice thing is that games tend to go fast, unlike playing the two main copy and paste control decks everybody seems to be playing.  Back when Magic was first out, your deck was a very personal thing, you kept it secret, you didn't share the deck.  While I think that the abundance of decklists is awesome, the downside is people have become lazy.  I rarely see anything original now.  But on the other hand to that, decks with cards like arclight phoenix sort of build themselves too.  Or dino enrage decks.  Wizards is building some of our decks for us now as well.  Still, the game is a ton of fun after all these years.  Cheers and enjoy.

I actually really like this.

If I were building off this idea I would use favorable winds, that one drop guy that gets a +1/+1 from surveil (from guilds) and then what you did except every surveil spell out there.  I find bodies on the ground very useful, and as a one drop on turn one you are not harming the plan, and getting double or even triple value out of your surveil spells.  I may just try this for some casual paper magic.

Chainwhriller seems to be the worst match up - but with a single winds out you negate the ETB ping.  Going wide with tokens is a ton of fun, and abusing quasiduplicate seems perfectly good.

Nice, what I like are:

Journey to eternity & stichers supplier (any small critter will do though)
Molderhulk & Memorial to Folly
Journey to Eternity & the new Vraska & any critter

Get the recursion going, and going fast.  The best Ezonia (the one that makes insects) and any of the above.  Wish the insects were insect zombies that would of been super broken.

Oh Yes,

Almost forgot, and I SHOULD create the sideboard, I avoided ornithopter simply because it is rotating.  There are a few other cards that would really rock this list from AR, however, I wanted to be as rotation proof as possible.  Building for standard is challenging and this core combo could certainly shell some serious builds.

Looking forward to the next set's spoilers for cards that will, I'm sure, take this into the stratosphere.

Hi

From your build you are crafting a deck that looks like it is better suited for commander or EDH style of play.  When I first learned of Commander (Long after it was a 'norm') I really took to it.  It gives players who don't have a huge investment in cards the ability to craft a deck with some nice flavour and synergy.  Instead of 60 cards you make a deck of 100 cards, and only 1 copy of any non basic land card.

Getting a 'playset' (4 copies of any one card) can get expensive and time consuming.  Commander really allowed me to enjoy what I had and actually win games, not based on the amount of money I spent, but rather how well I constructed my deck.

Look into it if you are not familiar with it, it is a great style of play.

And don't foget, you can come up with 'house rules' too.  This is just a game.  Host a gaming night with 60 card (standard size) decks, but only allow 1 copy of a card like commander.  We have tried that and the decks play out different almost every game.  It puts you on equal footing with those who have been around longer and opens people up to new combos that they didn't just find on google.

Cheers!

Hi DBMagic,

I have found the inclusion of Lone Rider very helpful.  The play usually goes like this:

Turn 1:  Thraben Inspector or Authority of the Consuls
Turn 2:  Glory-Bound
Turn 3:  Swing for 4 with lifelink
Drop a plains, play a Lone Rider - end step transform for a 4/4 lifelink/trample/first strike creature sitting back.
Turn 4:  Always watching or Aerial Responder

I know it is about to rotate out of standard - but I don't play standard in my usual casual play group.  For the near future standard you are probably doing the right thing.  But, who knows what the next expansion will have.  I am hoping that there is another, lower cast cost horse that has some nice tomfoolery to go with this excellent deck.
