Deck Comments / Re: Lands in EDH - A Primer - Comments

What about the thriving cycle?(thriving bluff)  They're basically a tapland in 2-color decks but can help majorly with fixing in 3+ color budget decks.  Also do the vivid lands count?(vivid crag) They're kinda but not really dual lands.  Honestly idk if either can be considered dual.  Anyhoo I just wanted to say great job, I enjoyed! :)

Haha I love those two. :)

mm yeah, I think that winds of change could be nice, and maybe I'll check it out instead of something like faithless looting, but teferi's puzzle box kinda turns me off. It goes off a bit too often for my tastes.

Kess could work well, but I think that focusing on non-commander damage is best for me, and if you want to throw it in and have a more commander-focused deck, I'm all for it.  I just don't want to make the deck more commander-focused than it already is, and don't want to take out other cards, because i am terrrrrible at making swaps in my decks lol.

In this deck, Court of Ire seems a bit too defensively focused for this deck, especially when there aren't very many good blockers(or even attackers) to maintain monarch for an amount of time that would help us.  Besides, it helps us stay under the radar until we blow everything up in a turn.

I'm really sorry for the late reply, I don't check this post nearly as often as I should.  Thank you!

I like it! I would call this a fairly comprehensive primer.  I don't have very many questions since I typically play a much more aggressive style of deck, so don't know that many cards to suggest, but this looks great!  If it doesn't get very much attention, just ask morg to look it over, and if you do a good enough job, you'll get promoted to full primer status.

Good luck and great job!

Alright, so you've got a good start to the primer, but you need to expand on it a bit more.  You've outlined the plan, but you haven't said much about why you included the cards you did.  A good idea is to add a card discussion section where you give a short description of each card, and why it deserves to be in the deck.  Other nice sections to have would be notable exclusions, which gives reasons on why didn't you use some other, maybe more well-known cards that could be played.  Also, you should just take a quick look through what you've written and make some corrections, as there are a few typos, punctuation mistakes, and capitalization errors.

If you want some examples of sections you could add, just check the primer page!  They are great examples of refined, concise and helpful packages (and mine is there too ;) )

Good job so far though!

P.S.  Show the description of the deck using #show_description in the url.  It's a necessary requirement if you want to get promoted, and it just makes life easier.

Just at a glance, you have some random dimir good-stuff in here, like mindleech mass.   Think about taking those out for cards that focus on your strategy more.  Also maybe it's just me, but I think taking out leyline of the void and planar void could help a lot and open more possibilities.  A lot of these cards I'm suggesting don't work well when the void effects are out.

More ramp - You need more acceleration, with artifacts like dimir signet, arcane signet, talisman of dominance, commander's sphere, and other similar effects.  This deck won't do squat until you get Phenax out, so this will help.
Charix, the Raging Isle - He's a 4 mana 0/17 my guy.  Seems like a good fit.
Command tower - Seems like you missed this commander staple.  Cheap land that does everything you need.
Duskmantle guildmage - He can drain your opponents' life very quickly and cheaply.
Keening stone - A fun card that can quickly take someone out of the game if they have enough cards in the graveyard.
Diluvian primordial, sepulchral primordial - Both of these are very well suited to commander and lend themselves nicely to your strategy.
Things like wight of precinct six - They will get massive very fast.
Glacial wall is better than several of the walls you have.  There are also better walls in the world than the ones you run, just an fyi.
Lazav, Dimir Mastermind - It can take any nice creatures you mill along the way
Guiltfeeder is fun, but might not be great if you play against lots of black decks.
Protection for Phenax! - Cards like swiftfoot boots, lightning greaves, and darksteel plate prevent removal of your commander, as this deck won't do much without him.

Anyways, it was fun to find these cards!  Hope you use some!

Is the point of the x-spells to be a free counter?  If so, there is a risk of running into them again and wasting the turn. The probability of running into one of the 12 x-spells is much larger than the finishers.  If tutors aren't banned in this format (Idk, I don't play lots of magic) then you should run a playset of both tutors instead of the x-spells to ensure you get what you need (Vampiric tutor and Mystical tutor).  Also, tune up the big creatures so you run into them more often.  I don't play much modern, so take what I say with a grain of salt.  But this is a cool idea!

Semi-recently I found out that with an Animation Module (or Words of Wilding) and an Ashnod's Altar, you get infinite death triggers and infinite mana.   This can be used to ping everyone or draw the deck and look for a win-con.
(If you're using Words of Wilding, you can't draw but you still get all those triggers and make Korvold huge).  This can also work with Phyrexian Altar and just not make the infinite colorless mana.  Just a thought though, since this is a good stuff deck lol.  Looking good!  Also, Chandra's Ignition and Soul's Fire could be nice.

This is my deck if you want to check it out, it comes in at $112 (mines more sac oriented):

General Magic / Re: Games you've enjoyed

I just surprised myself and destroyed a group on turn 4 with my neheb deck.  It was really just luck of the draw.  I drew the god hand, with some mana, a sol ring and an everflowing chalice, along with some draw spells and a tectonic giant, one of my favorite cards in the deck.  I play the sol ring and chalice, and then drop a turn 2 Neheb.  Turn 3, I play my tectonic giant, swing with neheb and use the mana to cast a tome of legends, which I use to draw a card.  From the tome, I get the big man, Kozilek himself.  The next turn I swing with the giant, ping everyone for 3, and drop kozilek and everyone concedes.  It was a rather unexpected game to say the least, but insightful on how strong the deck can be when it wants to.

To make it more fun, could we say that only one has to be legendary, and the other can be any creature, like its sidekick?  If this was to be implemented maybe the second would have to be uncommon or lower to prevent power combos.  I think this could be fun!

This is just an update to everyone that I'm going to be giving my opinions on cards from each new set in the "Changelog" section of the primer, starting with Kaldheim.  If I miss any cards that you like and think might fit, feel free to drop a comment!

Thanks for all the attention it has been getting recently :)

Thank you! :)

I have considered seething song as an early way to get Neheb out, and see that it can be powerful, but it only really applies in the early game.  I tend to be adverse to things that only want to be in to get out early and don't really advance the gameplan much beyond that.  Besides, most games I play aren't in super competitive decks where getting him out on turn 2 is a do or die thing.

I have noticed that aggravated assault can be kinda stale and boring if I get it early in the game, but I don't tend to run into it too much, and it is a useful card against higher power decks.  If I was playing against friends, then I wouldn't play this card very often.  But I don't, and it can be a satisfying way to finish off the table.

And Furnace of Rath and Dictate of the twin gods is very much a big risk/big reward choice.  I don't really like it, but since it stacks and can be really helpful, I can see playing them as well.

Jeska's WIll - This was already on its way in, I just needed to find a card to take out.  Thanks for expediting the process!

Dockside Extortionist - This guy is a bit interesting in my eyes.  Even though it can generate lots of treasures and is very good in almost every red edh deck, I don't think it is as good here.  For one, it only makes treasures, which aren't quite as great as the other forms of mana ramp like damage or permanent.  Jeska's will was mainly considered as a card draw source, with the mana portion as a neat benefit if I have Neheb out.  I just feel that dockside is close, but not quite there for this deck.

Wheel of misfortune - To be completely honest, when I was looking through spoilers I kind of skipped this card because of all the text.  Looking at it now, I can see that it could either work well for me, or absolutely suck and give my opponents an advantage.  A bit too much chance for me.  For now, no, but maybe later on I'll consider it.

Valakut Stoneforge - This makes sense here, I totally missed it.  It's jumping in for a land.

Caged sun, gauntlet of power - I feel like I have enough doublers for now, and both of these were cut from the original list in favor of other cards.

Bolt bend, deflecting swat - I really don't feel the need for these that much.  Most people underestimate Neheb and don't target him, and I almost never keep open mana to use this on other turns.  And honestly, I think that too much protection is overkill with a deck that can come back and finish people with speed and ease, although when Neheb has been targeted as a threat right off the bat, I could have used these.  Maybe?  I don't know.  Probably the Deflecting Swat at least.

Blood Magus and Magus of the Moon - Ehhhhhhhhh.  I feel kinda bad playing these types of cards in commander.  They make people target me and don't advance my gameplan too much.

Bonder's enclave and War Room - I don't think I need a land specifically to draw cards as of yet, but these cards have been on my consideration list just in case.

Hey, this is a nice primer!  Some recommendations I have for now is to touch up on the spelling and grammar a bit, make a list of the cards in the deck, with a reason for each inclusion, and a section on cards you decided not to put in, and the reasons for those.

Yeah, I sorta remember thinking about impulsive pilferer, but never tried it out.  That might actually be really nice!  Witch's oven can be useful, and I had it in at one point, but I think I cut it because it wasn't as efficient as the other ones, or maybe because I forgot about the foods heh.  I know that I replaced it for spawning pit, which is easier to use and lets me sac more if I don't have any other options.

Commander Deck Reviews / My budget Korvold Deck! Almost ready to buy it!
« on: December 31, 2020, 09:06:17 pm »
Hey all, I've been building a budget korvold deck for a while, and playtested it online a bunch, and am almost ready to buy it! Buying a deck is a big thing for me, as I don't get to spend money on magic cards often.  I like most of what I have so far, and the maybeboard has some stuff I'm considering. If anyone has any suggestions or opinions, leave a comment, and I'll take them gladly! Thanks!! (My budget isn't huge, so for any suggestions, monetary consideration would be helpful.  Most of the more expensive cards I thought about a lot)
