If you are willing to purchase shocks, fetches, and og duals, then don't even worry about that. Your mana will be so smooth, it won't matter if you add basics in different ratios.

I'm honestly starting to think duals are overrated. Obviously, they're the best, but you can buy an entire mana base AND deck that are both pretty tuned for the price of one duals set. My Scion deck uses shocks, fetches, pain lands, and any color lands, and I have never had a problem (though it does also have a good ramp package). I get all of my colors quickly and in the amounts I need. I'm not sure duals are ever going to seem worth the money at this point.

I was talking to my cousin today about this, we're both learning together and mostly just play each other. I'd probably just get proxies but the old collector in me just can't do it, haha. I was thinking though, these OG dual lands are really nice, but are they $120 EACH nice?  I suppose if I was good enough to compete and so on it might be worth the investment but just playing to have fun it seems the lands you mentioned should do just fine.  I think for starters I'll get a set of Shock, Fetch and I really like the Bounce Lands, but I'll play around with it.

Thanks again for the help here, I love that Helm of the Host combo idea! I did have the Kiki Jiki, Felidar combo in there but it just seemed to difficult to make happen consistently and effectively so I took it out.

The ramp and lands seem to be a big struggle for me, I don't have a huge budget, I mainly got GC since I've been a collector for so long, it's hard not to add things that are good investments over time, sounds like these lands def fall into that category though.

I'll have to catch up with everything this weekend most likely and update you with the new deck! Can't wait to try this out.

I discovered "Thursday Night Magic" on Ebay and purchased a few of Patrick's decks which are a blast to play, really gave me a good idea of how a deck should be but never took the time to break them down or learn the structure properly.

Also, forgot to ask, is there a simple way or tool that helps you determine which color mana/quantity will be the best fit for the deck and how to decided which dual lands, fetch lands etc to add?

Probably the 2 most important things that a Commander deck needs is ramp and card draw. I like to have 10 of each as a basis.

You have a good start in the ramp department with Kodama's Reach, Cultivate, Sol Ring, and Farseek, but Arcane Signet, Chromatic Lantern, Gruul Signet, Selesnya Signet, and Boros Signet should be auto-includes to fix your mana and get Ghired out a turn earlier.

In terms of card draw, green has a lot of good options. Harmonize is fantastic no matter when you cast it, people have already mentioned Shamanic Revelation, Rishkar's Expertise, and Idol of Oblivion, and Collective Unconscious, Return of the Wildspeaker, and Elemental Bond are other fantastic options.

I'll also mention that to keep your deck consistent and focused, you generally want to focus on one theme (and maybe one subtheme). Ghired lends himself to tokens/populate obviously, and a solid secondary theme would be power matters (cards that like big creatures) as you can easily make big 4/4 rhinos at a minimum. Outliers like Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger, Crystalline Giant, Crystalline Crawler, and Voracious Hydra don't help you with accomplishing your gameplan of slapping dummy amounts of fat tokens onto the board.

Hope my tips help!

Yes, a HUGE help, thank you!  I've been having a tough time deciding on ramp/lands and was considering getting the pain lands so really appreciate that as well. So I guess even though a card is good/powerful, if it isn't synergizing with your Commander, wincon, goal then it just slows you down more or less. Is there any room for alternate wincons, things that opponents don't expect?

Thanks again, Robert. This is all very helpful! I was unaware of Skryfall (great resource!) I just discovered TCG games about 8 months ago and playing MTG for around 2, hands down the funnest games I've ever played. I've been watching Game Knights and shows like that learning about cards and getting excited about playing them, so they go in the deck, haha. I have tried to put synergistic cards in there though as well. Cards like Ulamog seemed like a nice surprise finisher etc. I like the "Timmy" decks because they're just loads of fun to play. I'm working on a Kadena upgrade now as well that is put together a little better than this one.

Thank you for the help, do you have any good articles that go more in depth about synergy and deck building in general?

Appreciate the tips and input! I have all these cards already and love playing the deck, I'll try for some lower CMC and see how that works, any addition suggestions?
