Deck Reviews / Re: [EDH / Commander] Banchantress

I think it's good to decide what strategy you want to use and narrow it down a bit.

Estrid, Tuvasa, and Kestia all make really nice bantchantress commanders but they all work a little differently.

I think it's a waste not to use land-enchantments like Utopia Sprawl, so I would cram plenty more in there. it synergizes very well with Estrid's +2 and lets you focus her -1 on protecting key cards and creatures. If you want a few creatures with auras, I'd cram in enchantresses and then use cards that get stronger based on enchantments like Tuvasa, Yavimaya Enchantress, etc. I would probably take out some of the token producers as they work better with combos or as a main focus of the deck, although making 4/4 Angels is really good so I'd keep that one.

There's a lot of different directions you can take estrid. You might be better off with Kestia if you're really focused on swinging though.

Mark Rosewater already said that he was displeased about the cmc 2 tibald and that it was a bad idea to create a cmc 2 PW just to proof they are able to.

Mechanically, it makes sense to keep them above 2. Lore-wise, it fits as well considering planeswalkers are pretty strong.

Dearly hoping that some of these can be Commanders. I can dream, right?

PWs I really really want but will probably never see:

transforming Arlinn with werewolf support
Ravi
Mishra
Serra (I know we have one, but please spoil me with another)
an artifacts-matter Tamiyo

edit: that said, i'm guessing 4.5 or so on average for CMCs. maybe one or two outliers on either side, but really crazy low CMC planeswalkers seem to have fallen flat (tibalt)

Hello, fellow Estrid player. I really like your deck, but it seems a little unfocused. What are your main plans/win conditions? I see you have token production, some control, and some pillowfort, etc.

If you have the budget I'd suggest Verduran Enchantress, Argothian Enchantress, maybe even Femeref Enchantress.

Looks pretty good, I’ve been playing an estrid deck that’s more pillowfort/combo focused but this is a good route to take too. Cards to consider:
Opalescence - second starfield
Femeref enchantress - goes very well with auras as she draws when your auras go to discard.
The Chain Veil - this is too good not to mention, if you are using land enchantment with estrid you definitely want to use this card. It’s a free infinite loyalty counters.

Not really sure why you took out Oath of Teferi, it goes well with this deck. You want to get your +2 as much as you can so you can untap those lands.

Edit: oh, and Growing Rites of Itlimoc is too good in a token green deck. Auto-include in green enchantress tokens haha

Thanks all for your help!! I did some changes but i still have 12 over 5 cost of mana 😂

It's okay to have some high cost cards in EDH, as the game tends to take a while and ramp strongly. Compared to Standard, heavy cost cards are much more likely to see play.

Updates: Moved some of the more expensive cards to the Maybeboard: these cards are really powerful and if you try the budget version and really like it, you should definitely pick up the maybeboard cards. They shouldn't cost you more than $20 altogether and make the deck really powerful! Added: Curiosity, Counterspell, Rewind.

A note on playstyle: As this deck isn't super powerful, one strategy you can use to take out a strong enemy is to team up with a couple other players. Ask them to use as many sorceries and instants as possible and have Niv-mizzet deal damage to the dangerous enemy. With two or three players heavily spending spells you will be able to take them down with direct damage very quickly.

@ emu: I think you are right about a lot of th these suggestions. I am trying to keep the budget of this deck very tight to support people who might want to play a different version that still functions. Baral I plan to put into a “good additions” section, he is a bit out of the budget here but he definitely belongs in the deck

I’m all about having a couple crazy “I win” cards. If it was open budget I’d probably focus on infinite mana combos so I could just burn through the deck, as is I’m trying to pull it toward control (ish)? I’m testing soon so I’ll mess with it more later.

Hyper Budget Niv-Mizzet, Parun

Burn through powerful draw spells and ping your enemies down. Budget could be further reduced by using Firemind instead of Parun and tossing in another land or filler card.

$40 as of 1/28/19

~advice to make the deck cheaper and/or more consistent is welcome! This deck is part of my practice to get creative and make limited cost decks to share. Not looking to break 40 USD. ~

Personally I like it, how does it handle vs field effects?
