Commander Deck Reviews / Re: Prepping for a casual budget tournament

Gonna try to contribute at your list a bit!

But I'm probably the least experienced aroud as far as deckbulding is concerned, I'm only proposing some interactions with single cards you might have missed, hoping I'm in the right

I've some personal questions, first of all, given the fact you have tried the deck some times:  At what point of your plans do your games end? At which turn? 6th turn? 12th? And how many permanents were you usually able to amass under Abdel? Where you at that point far from a winning position or relatively close?

Aside from this, back to your list:

Random wincon thoughts:
I really liked cathars crusade, but I get the budget problem... (and really like the cloudshift replace)
Moreover, I'm not sure how much mass removal is played in your pod, and so how much is viable the idea of closing out the game with some very huge soldiers. Maybe it is less powerfull than I thought, if you put it out. Wasn't it enough for the crusade to hit the battlefield to immediatly puts you in a favorable spot to win? (after a couple blinks more)

I think restoration angel was a combo piece with Abdel... I'm in the wrong? Like felidar guardian! With a third piece of the like of cloudshift / Ephemerate. Or far traveler too. I'd suggest to swap it back, putting the flickerwisp out.
The combo should work like this:
1)Preparation: you cast the felidar guardian (or the angel), his etb targeting abdel, blinks abdel. Abdel exiles the felidar guardian under him and everything else he was already exiling.
2) Starting point: Abdel exiling felidar guardian targeted by a blink effect (far traveler, cloudshift...)
3) resolve the blink, abdel exits and enters back, all permanents (most importantly felidar guardian ("fg")) he was exiling enter the battlefield.
4) Arrange triggers on the stack as you wish: fg's trigger targeting abdel first, abdel's trigger after.
5) Resolve abdel's trigger exiling fg (and creating one soldier)
6) Resolve fg's trigger exiling abdel
7) so returning abdel and fg on the battlefield
8) repeat 348579834759 times creating 348579834759 soldiers.
9) Hope none has a response.

Removal
I'm gonna stress again on the likes of oblivion ring, fiend hunter, journey to nowhere, leonin relic-warder
They are not at all temporary removal with abdel, with a bit of work included...!!! Look at that: 8)
1) you cast oblivion ring (obr), his etb tirggers targeting and exiling what you want
2) later you cast Abdel; his etb triggers and exiles obr. Obr's leave the battlefield trigger (ltbt) triggers and unfortunately returns what was exiled.
3) This is a new starting point though.
4) You blink Abdel while he is exiling the obr. (with far traveler or cloudshift)
5) Resolution: Abdel exits and returns back
6) "Sort of state base action": Obr enters back
7) You have at this point their two etbs to put on the stack as you desire: obr's first (stating his target) and abdel's second
8) Resolve Abdel's trigger, exiling obr.
9) Obr's ltbt triggers and returns nothing on resolution.
10) Finally you resolve the obr's etb and exile his targets. Forever.

At this point every time you blink Abdel (blink and not flicker, like flickerwisp) you have a free removal under it. With a bit of preps you have so gained a far better Loran of the third path. But I don't know if this is so reliable as I make it seems.
I'd slot in an oblivion ring and a journey to nowhere, slotting out a prison sentence and a lay down arms.

Michellanea
I'd slot out a brute suit for a Honor-Worn Shaku (Mana!!!!)
I'd slot out a thundering chariot for a Flywheel Racer (mana!!!)
In the protection section I'd consider Your temple is under attack and Blacksmith's Skill
Ashnod's altar would probably be a good mana card, with a bit of preparation...: helping you cast the most expensive spells exploiting some soldiers...
Hero of goma fada Morganator 2.0 suggested seems better to me than selfless spirt, but maybe I'm overstimating your capability to blink at instant speed when you need it.
Maybe a justiciar's portal?

Ok I'm out sorry for the wall of text XD

Hi!

One day I'm gonna wield a Mono White Abdel too! Glad to see your list!

For the removal slots, have you tried oblivion ring or journey to nowhere or fiend hunter?
Are they worth in your perspective?

SBAs are very tricky forse me, thanks guys I learned something today. The queue thing is very interesting.
But I disagree on the trigger of the death abdel.
For me is like a conclave tribunal, not an oblivion ring
In the gatherer you read:
If Conclave Tribunal leaves the battlefield before its triggered ability resolves, the target permanent won't be exiled
Let me hear tour thoughts

ehi man! That's unacceptable! As a fan of order and decorum I thank you! <3
(The SB is usually a mess in every one of my deck though)

I can confirm I lost once to this.
A friend wanted to play a new deck against me.
I was very wary at first, but then he didn't play anything for the first two turns, and I was kind of sorry for him.
I didn't counter the commander couse tutoring seemed lot of fun, and I was the one ahead.
Then he got me.
I wanted a rematch, but it never happened obv!

Hi fellow player captivated by dragon's approach! Definitely gonna build a deck with them as well, one day. I'd probably choose Syr Carah, the bold though, or Tor Wauki the Younger, due to pure simple preference.

I'm no one in term of deckbulding skills, I've no real idea of how to properly adress your issues.I'm repling only because I like your deck!;)
I'm sure you are having lot of fun playing it with friends!

A quick piece of advice: it would be wonderful of you to sort out your deck in categories...
Something Like...:
- card advantage
- early ramp
- late mana
- big dragons
- target removal
- mass removal
- main strategy (for the like of trobran, kessig flamebreather, thrumming stone...)
- lands

The final result should be so much easier to evaluate for others, and therefore easier for you to obtain ideas and advice.

Checking quickly your deck I found some cards that really puzzle me. But you put them in because you like them, so is obviuosly perfectly fine to keep them in.

I would probably remove:
Tribal flames (there are better option for targeted removal)
The stasis coffin (but I guess it depends on your meta, maybe having protection from everything is real key in your pod)
Lightning Phoenix (really cute sinergy with the dragon's approach thing, but I find it not useful)
Bloodsworn steward (buffing commander is always nice, but do you really need it?)
Ashenmoor liege (as above)

None of these have to be removed, expecially if you find enjoiable playing your deck as it is.
But I think, and I'm gonna say something really simple, that if you want to pursue the road of empowerment for your deck, the main way is either investing money, or a lot of focus on specific strategy, without any room for fun cards.

It would not be fair to suggest you what to cut without some ideas of what to bring in. I think your deck lack a bit of early ramp. Something else you could play at turn two.
But the pieces I would really really test are cards like cathartic reunion, faithless looting and thrill of possibilities. Cards like these should help you fill your gy more quickly with dragon's approaches and to have therefore your dragon's entering the battlefield earlier. You play sickening dreams, so you should know if discarding cards is useful or not. And I think it should be.
But maybe I'm wrong

Hope to have written something at least a bit useful

Have fun!

Ehi!

I like this deck too!

It cathced my eye expecially for all the cards it has I didn't even hear of. :o

I also agree lotus field would be very nice.

There is a card I would definetly like to see in a deck like this: Catastrophe. As a mass removal if needed, with the nice addition to be a zuran orb like effect: you can destroy all lands and then recover them with second sunrise and planar birth for a lot of landfall trigger.

Have fun

Commander Discussion / Re: Banlist update, September 2021
« on: September 14, 2021, 06:25:50 pm »
As a player of commander, it's my first time seeing a ban of a legendary creature in the format... At least one of this magnitude.

It's common for them to ban a legendary creature from the game instead only from the helm of decks? Why not ban Golos only as the commander? Is it for the sake of semplicity and communication? (Is it not the same case for... Who was it?...Erayo?)

I would gladly listen to your opinions, I'm a bit puzzled.

I would have played it gladly at least in the 99 of some low-power land-matters deck, for examples. Or as a hidden commander of a shrine deck, as the one guy that travels through all of them.

Anyway, have fun guys!;-)

Hi guys!

I'd love to see Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper with green (mostly for ramp). I know he is not so popular, but he was my first one.
I'm not into card-design, soooo feel free to blast me: maybe could he had been a legitimate bant card with the same effect, stats and cost in the first place...?

I'm currently daydreaming on a penta version of him, helmed by General Tazri (probably): with a little more green, providing mana and tutors for lands, I could reliably manage to cast a kickered Rite of Replication on a awakened (by Noyan or others) Field of the Dead. Hidden achievement of mine still locked for now.

Hey man!
