A tale of soldiers and midrange

Okay so I don' t think I need any explaining here - pretty simple, pretty standard deck ... anyway I feel like maybe a bit more control would be nice, but I am having a hard time choosing what to not put in...

Any advise welcome!

About the elves deck:

https://deckstats.net/decks/14801/975294-green-elves-i-mean-you-can-be-/de

I have included above a link to the ELV deck I created just a few days ago.

You can add Marwyn, the nurtuner if you like but I feel like he is not needed :)

This is - in my opinion how a good elf deck should look :)

Keep in mind though - this is not modern legal and is mostly used for kitchen table....

also if your friends decks look like the one you have here they'll probably be a bit surpised if you play that deck :)

DaCowThough,

okay, so there is a lot of things that you could change in your ramp deck. The "problem" is ... for (almost) every card you have in that deck there are better alternatives. Now I get the idea of making a deck with the cards you own and try to make it work... (I ended up with a ramp deck in the same way and it does pretty decent).

About the ramp:
While it is a good idea (especially in green) to go with "get mana faster than other ppl and finish with big guys" this deck does not contain much synergy.
It feels a bit like you just put in random green cards that were laying around and hoping for the best.... For example if you want to use centaur battlemaster you should maybe consider having the whole deck revolt around him. His ability is pretty decent. For 5 mana he comes into play pretty fast and he'll snowball way too fast.

So i would suggest the following:

Take out:
axebane stag, bond bettle (won't trigger the centaur), cowl prowler, druid's familiar, cowl Prowler, spined wurm and so on...
(take out basically everything that does not help you getting the centaur out faster or make him stronger

Put it:
blossoming defense, rancor, giant growth.... stuff like that!

I know this would kinda ruin your deck idea but if you really wanna go ramp/big you need to think this all over.

Put in more mana generators (and better ones!) use elvish mystic instead of golden hind for example. And try to get some "bigger" threats... your creatures that are in it right now are just too basic.

They don't have effects nor do they really do damage - any good tribal will have stronger creatures, any rush down deck will shit you on turn 4 and any control deck... well how will you remove enchantments or artifacts that kill your game?

I could go on about this all day but I doubt that makes any sense.

Maybe you can DM me or get in touch if you want me to explain in detail

Regards
Milmaster

Well this isn't would unfortunately not be permitted in a tribal deck since it has less than 70% crocs in it... cool Idea though!

I have created a similar deck myself - link below if you are interested

uhm I thought about it but a 3/3 for 2 mana simply doesn't seem good enough for me @farts4

look man - I really don't want to be mean but that deck has no "theme" at all.

If you build a deck try to get some synergies in try to use the same mechanics. For example there are a lot of creatures that use explore in the new expansion.

Wildgrowth walker gets stronger the more you explore right? - therefore putting in more explore cards would make him stronger right?
What I said one line above is what you call theme/synergy ... the more your deck has it the better the deck (not completely true but if you stick to that in gerneal you ll be getting better decks).

Also you can use a card up to 4 times in a deck. If you have a card you really like you might wanna put it in 4 times ( then the chances are higher than with only one of the named card in it right?) that is called reliability.

With those two things you can build a pretty decent deck.

If you choose I don ' t know raid fe.e or explore you might wanna "build around" that mechanic so that it triggers as often as possible :)

you can look at my decks to see where I am trying to go with this.

BUt hey for a first try - it's pretty alround i guess

Wishing you the best

Hi, Baseballknight,

I read your comment on Uthos deck... I like the idea of your deck and I agree some Cards are unnecessary in his deck. However I would recommend you to put in some removal.

Also you lack creatures... 12 creatures is not much. Especially since you have no removal. You will have a hard time controling the board against defensive decks or control decks. I would not put in O-naginata.
Also Kemba, kha regent is a must in my opinion.
Maybe if you'd find some room to put in some removal (path to Exile, journey to nowhere etc.) it would be good since you have no direct way of dealing with key creatures of your Opponent.

Also if he manages to remove 1-2 creatures form your board you will ahve a hard time gettin the board back.

Of course you can always hope to rush the Opponent down but having this as your only win condition makes rather risky.

Also you curve out at 2 mana (there is not a single Card in your deck that costs more) which means that 23 plains is way too much. You could probably pull it off with 16 lands but just to be safe I would settle somewhere between 18-20.

Other than that it Looks pretty solid. Maybe a few battletricks would help. :)

Best regards
Millmaster

actually ... elecktrickery does if you play it for 1... and they are not meant to trigger willbreaker they are meant as an alternative board clear...

I know this deck isn t effective but that is quite alright. I don t want the deck to be effective I want it to be fun to play... if you look at my decks most of them are just casualish. Besides if I make my decks too strong my friends won t play with me anymore. I already have 2 decks that I am "not allowed to play" because my friends think they are overpowered.

But thank you for your comment :)

While this deck looks interesting in some ways I feel like you somehow lost your goal along the way... I mean for example what is oldric, lunarch marshal doing in there?

If you really wanna use felidar sovereign as a win condition you should put in Soul warden (Instead of Oldric, lunarch marshal f.e.).
Also Alhammarrets archieve is only worth if you actually have Card draw / Need Card draw. Instead I'd reckon a Rhox faithmender.
In my opinion the thraben doomsayer can leave aswell and maybe put in an ajani's pridemate or a wall of essence.

Other than that. It seems like a nice deck (One I d hate to Play against though :P)

Best of luck :)

I don't know if you want to this deck to be fast but... if you'd consider putting out Attended Knight and put in a thraben doomsayer you will probably win the Long term run. Also Wojo is right. The Monument will often be a dead Card in your Hand since you can't Play it when you already have another one. collective effort would be a better all around removal in my opinion.

Otherwise I really like the deck. Straight Forward pretty simple to Play modern deck.

TL;DR: too Little removal and mid range
