What do you think an Ooze commander / lord would be like?

Pretty sure it looks a lot like The Mimeoplasm.

Lol didn't know he existed. Next time I should do my research!

<Insert flavor text of Teferi's Ageless Insight here>

But I really do like the idea of a card like:

Cardname - 4GG
Legendary Creature - Ooze
At the beginning of each of your end steps, create a 1/2 green Ooze creature token.
2GG: Ooze greatures you control get +X/+X until end of turn, where X is the number of Oozes you control.
3/4

...or something like that.

More oozes would be fantastic. I love the flavor of cards like Predator Ooze and Biogenic Ooze. They're just horrifying amalgams that continue to multiply and grow in power until they're destroyed.

Biogenic Ooze has been one of my favorite cards since it came out. What do you think an Ooze commander / lord would be like? How would it behave? Maybe something to do with multiplying, as that does seem to be a recurring theme. Turning other creatures into Oozes would be cool as well.

I want some more Ooze and Octopus creature types. If there were more Octopuses (or Octopi), then I would totally make a Lorthos, the Tidemaker commander deck starring a lot of Octopuses. Sea-Dasher Octopus made a great addition to the very small Octopus collection, numbering at only 10 Octopus creatures over all sets.

General Magic / Re: What is your favorite piece of MTG art?
« on: July 01, 2020, 12:58:13 am »
I'm sorry Seb Mckinnon, but I just have to say that my favorite artist is Izzy. I mean, just look at those beautiful artworks! The colors she does are so vibrant, and the scale, texture, form, and even focus blurring on all her artworks are absolutely superb. My favorite is Simic Ascendancy, but my second has to be Honor's Reward. I have included links to both these in HD:

Simic Ascendancy:

Honor's Reward:

However, if we want to talk Seb Mckinnon, who is undoubtedly my second favourite artist, my favourite art from him has to be infinity elemental:

IMO, a very concise and smart deck. I like it, and I can only see 2 problems with it:

1: The mana curve - Adding something like a Void Beckoner that can be a big creature late-game but can be cycled early-game might smooth it a little. This particular curve is far from the worst I've seen, but I think you might need to sprinkle in a few more expensive creatures to hold you up late-game, particularly creatures in the 5-6 CMC range.
2: No flying - If you come across a blue/white flyer deck or any deck with flying in it, they'll get past you easily, and you don't have many targeted removal spells. A creature like Dirge Bat could assist in both these respects.

All-in-all, it's a pretty nice deck and I wouldn't mind having it for myself. The ramp seems pretty efficient and the deck looks fast-paced enough to be fun. I hope my suggestions are useful to you.

General Magic / Re: What could a new viable cycle of Lands look like?
« on: June 25, 2020, 03:23:43 am »
Where's the drawback?  A "forest" that could tap from round one but then has added benefits that just take mana could be too good.  Now this would come into play tapped or have some other cost to come into play untapped.  With a benefit that hits all of your creatures it'd also require tapping this lad for it as well otherwise you can just use the land to help pay for its own special ability.

Good point. If these lands were made, then it would probably have to enter tapped or cost you some life on entering. Too powerful otherwise. And you are 100% right about having to tap the land for the ability; I just forgot to add the 'T', sorry for the slip-up

Edit: And yes, @Sylvester12, basically like the kamigawa lands but with less localized and more useful effects.

What if there was a cycle of lands that had their own special abilities to the colour, like the castles but better and affecting only your creatures? For example:

[name]
Land - Forest
(T: Add {G})
{1C}{G}{G}: Creatures you control gain trample until end of turn.

Maybe Black could give your creatures deathtouch until end of turn, while Red gives your creatures menace. Blue could make your creatures hexproof, and white would give creatures you control flying. They'd be sort of similar to the castles, except with better abilities and fetchable. Maybe too powerful, though. I, for one, would love to see a cycle like this where the abilities of the lands can make a big impact to the game, instead of just letting you scry 2 or make a 1/1 token. This ability could be even better used with the keyword counters used in Ikoria! Something like "Put a hexproof counter on target creature you control" would be nice to have.

General Magic / Re: Do you like Ikoria's mutate cards?
« on: June 25, 2020, 01:10:47 am »
I'm really loving mutate if I'm honest... I feel like it's just another cool aspect of the game that should be explored and experimented with, and it doesn't have to be game-changing, although it can be. The Apex creatures are really sweet, especially Nethroi and Illuna, my two favourites. I think that any Voltron deck could have a bit of Mutate, as everything is already invested into that one creature.

The thing I don't like about mutate is how it costs you numbers of creatures for boosts. But, then again, that is unavoidable. My favourite part of mutate, however, is the "whenever this creature mutates" trigger. Epecially in cases like Parcelbeast, Everquill Phoenix, Migratory Greathorn, and the Apexes, the results can make or break a game, and I think it's really cool that the whole stack of creatures is triggered. It just seems satisfying.

A lot of people were saying that there isn't much hexproof in standard, but that's not the problem for me. The problem is that hexproof (except for Paradise Druid) is too expensive. You have cards like Humongulus and Wingfold Pteron as well as Dream Trawler to base creature stacks on, but they're all late-game.

So anyway, I'd say a 7/10 for mutate, because though it is really fun and you can make some amazing combinations with ridiculous triggers, it costs you a lot of creatures to make a large stack and can be very risky, as you have a lot of mana and cards in one spot.

If I offended you for some Reason - Sorry Bro - wasn't my intention, man.

That's okay man. The reason I say cards like Rubblebelt Runner is that if it were me against this deck, I'd absolutely boost it with something like Colossification or some +1/+1 counters. You're definitely right, though - spells like Ratchet Bomb would be super-effective. Even things like Lavabrink Venturer and Extinction Event, which are really easy to obtain, would be more effective than an unblockable 3/3.

Sorry for overreacting - not feeling myself recently. Hope you understand, bro

A well-balanced deck with some really cool cards. Only weaknesses I can see are to cards like Rubblebelt Runner, but cards like that are rarely used unless in a sideboard, and I for one aren't keeping cards in my sideboards to combat token decks like this. Fantastic job, love the deck!

Rubblebelt Runner? Thats weirdly specific ... You think this Card would be a Problem to a Token-strategy? Do you have this Card in your 'Commander-Sideboard'?

Bro, you literally quoted me saying that I didn't have it in my sideboard and that cards like that are rarely used anyway. And yes, this card would obviously be a problem for a token deck, if you couldn't tell. And though I don't have this card in my "Commander-Sideboard," I do still have a sideboard for my Commander deck. It's a common misconception that they're not legal, because they are - you can only have 10 cards, though, and no copies of a card that's already in the main (obviously). No need to downvote, man.

I think adding 3 or 4 copies of Ugin, the Ineffable would make this deck even better! Some pseudo-ramp never hurt anybody, hey? Unless your opponents classify as 'anybody'...

Already pretty cool, though. I like your style!

Deck Reviews / Boros Early-Game Burn
« on: June 15, 2020, 08:54:58 am »
Strategy: Hit them hard and fast early game with cheap, low-powered creatures, take out their powerful creatures with burn and control swaps, and keep life high with life-gain cards to keep you pumping through the whole game - even though it's built for early, it still works well later.

Synergy: Lots of Wizards; Wizard's Lightning is super-effective when used properly. Lots of low-powered creatures to milk the Cavalcade of Calamity, and lots and lots of instant damage. Burn them all to death.

Well, have at it! I'd enjoy any feedback. It's a really fun deck to play too, so I recommend you try it out. Not exactly competitive levels, but it already holds up really well in FNM, and it was built more for fun than for power.

Man, I love this deck. Fantastic. Even the section names are fantastic! "Helpful Dudes" and "Farmlands" hit me right in the funny bone. But have you considered adding Aegis Turtle, Wall of One Thousand Cuts, or Wall of Swords? I hope this is useful.

Commander Deck Reviews / Re: Gwendlyn clones v1.0
« on: June 11, 2020, 10:57:31 am »
LOL them graveyard shenanigans. What I meant by 'non-essential power plays' was any big, expensive card that isn't essential to the core mechanic of the deck, which appears to be flooding Gwendlyn Clones to shower your opponents with Discard. The best Commander decks are those that revolve around a single, fun mechanic and stick to the point. Hope that makes sense :P
