Deck Reviews / Re: First Deck, Black/White Any Input? Thanks
« on: August 14, 2015, 07:59:21 am »
Any White/Black deck that focuses on lifegain has potential. i recommend looking into the Orzhov syndicate (from the new Ravnica block). With its setup you can have a solid field presence and still gain life every turn. Or if you want you can do WB Athreos (basically white black for the Theros block) which focuses on enchantments that give and take life. Grim guardian is my personal favorite in this type of deck because he's a solid creature who provides quite the advantage in the right deck build.

Deck Reviews / Re: [Extended] Black/Green deck help.

It seems like you're pulling a lot of cards from different which is good in the resourcefulness area. One major thing i feel that you're leaving out is the DEATHTOUCH in this deck. Black Green is known for its graveyard recursion but also the types of creatures that color combo allows is really diverse. A good example is the rest of the Golgari Swarm (from the new Ravnica block), creatures like sluiceway scorpion are cheap, strong and dangerous. Also some more graveyard focused recursion would help the deck out. If you're not running a mono black deck then I do not encourage the use of the nightmare. You'd have to wait through most of the game just to get him up to being a 7/7 or even 9/9 because your deck focuses more on the green than it does the black. A replacement for that would be the nighthowler. It can bestow on other creatures or it can stand alone. Having a beast that can gain strength from everyone's graveyards is a huge advantage, especially since you're running B/G. This are just some of my observations, let me know if anything i said helps.

The deck itself i see has some direction but you should develop a base strategy for the deck's intended purpose. Also the anti-flyer hate in the deck should be sideboarded, there's no guarantee that everyone has something that flies in their deck. A good recommendation would be to incorporate the bolster mechanic with the ferocious mechanic in this deck (from the Tarkir block). That way you still get your big creatures and the effects that tie in with them and you won't need all the artifacts. A good green card is time to feed, it works like hunt the weak but it gives you health and possibly a free out of combat kill instead of just two creatures fighting.

Deck Reviews / Re: [Casual] Planes walk this way

Personally I feel like you're attempting to do too many things with one deck. If you're going to run an infect deck then i encourage you to stick to the mirrodin blocks and any supporting cards needed for your colors of choice. If you are going to run an all planeswalker deck then i wish to advise you that running domain would not be the most reliable (or stable) method for such a deck. I like your creativity but you should really stick to doing one or the other otherwise it'll look disorderly on the battlefield.

Deck Reviews / Re: [EDH / Commander] Blue-Black Milling Deck
« on: August 14, 2015, 07:10:51 am »
It's a good build considering the fact that you're using the dragonlord silumgar and vela. My only suggestion is that if you're going to use creatures such as those then you should incorporate more "bounce" into your deck. Using cards like unsummon and into the void allow for you to safely choose what creatures come and go and you still maintain some field control. Just an idea when using commanders who's effects revolve around entering and leaving the battlefield.

General Magic / Re: Newbie need help: Buff Decks
« on: August 14, 2015, 06:42:02 am »
If you like angels I recommend playing a deck using Seraph of the masses. It's a 7- mana cost mono white creature that gains +1/+1 for each creature that you control. If you are using any type of token deck (preferably with soldier and knight tokens) then you could have a serious powerhouse on the field. Also i'm not sure what colors you want to play. Though most angels are white there are multiple other styles of decks that use creatures such as this. For example, you could always use creatures like selfless cather who sacrifices himself to give everyone extra power. If you don't focus on the creatures with the effect then you could also use enchantments such as wreath of geists that give the equipped creature +X/+X for each creature card in your graveyard. Just food for thought, as long as you know the mechanic gathering the cards will be a lot easier.

General Magic / Re: What deck type should i make for a standard
« on: August 14, 2015, 06:32:17 am »
Right now I believe Theros is still considered standard so I'm choosing the U/B control and mill. I run a deck that uses black zombie creatures that are naturally able to mill and keep good board presence. Also actually having Phenax, god of deception in a deck would be a major plus if you're running a zombie mill deck like mine. On another note, black is a pretty popular color and in itself is capable of great destruction and control spells. I say the best way to control someone is to take over their resources (and by that I mean their deck and also hand). They can't beat you if they don't have any cards to play. That's just my opinion.

General Magic / Re: Mortiphobia Card Review

I say go for it. Any card that lets you manipulate someone else's graveyard is a definite plus, especially if you're running black. Also if you're trying to get specific cards both in and out of the grave then why not? Don't let the meta cause you to second guess whether or not to use a card  especially one as good as this. Also if you're playing commander then either one of two things will happen; 1. their deck will rely on recursion since you're only allowed to have one of each card, or 2. you can use the card to take a serious bite out of someone's game plan.

General Magic / Re: I need to find a modern deck!
« on: August 14, 2015, 06:13:05 am »
My best recommendation for you to do is looking at the sets that have come out so far in modern. You already know the type of mechanic you want to run but actually knowing the blocks and even the lore will help you feel more at home. A personal favorite when it comes to aggro, burn and life gain would be the Boros Legion (both old and new Ravnica blocks). It's combat ready and with the right instances and enchantments (if you wish to use any) would allow for you to pull off some pretty cool tricks that most people wouldn't expect.

Deck Comments / Re: Milling!!! :@ - Comments

This has got to be the most frightening mill deck that I have ever seen. This deck is just constant deck punishment. My only suggestion is to add a bit more creature/spell recursion to this deck. One thing that I have learned from using a mill deck is that once you use all your good cards, if your opponent HAS found a way to hold you off, you need to be able to swing at him/her for a second wave of assault. Monster wise you could use cards like Disentomb (1- drop black sorcery) just to add a vital creature back to your hand for a low cost. Also in the case of those flashback cards you like using, the dream twist in particular, you could use a card called "Runic Repetition." It's a blue sorcery that adds any 1 card you've already used for its flashback cost right back to your hand. The deck's great just the way it is but card recycling would be something you should keep an eye out for. Food for thought.

This deck is great just the way it is, every hand looks good in the hand simulator. One good card to put in this deck would be corpse trader (from Innistrad). He's a 4- drop black human rouge that sacs one of your creatures to reveal your opponent's hand and they have to discard ANY card you choose. I thought it might be a nice addition since some of your monsters' have effects that activate when they leave the battlefield. Also its got a strong body and and can give you some much needed hand advantage over your opponent. Non-infected food for thought.
