I dig it. Just solid green stomp the other guy into the ground.

General Magic / Re: Cards that epitomize each color

I lack the history with the game to really do justice, but I'll give my takes. Or at least the cards that come to mind whenever someone mentions a color.

Red is Lightning Bolt, like just about everyone else.
Blue is Contradict. Not a great card, but I think of it as pretty well encapsulating the color.
Black is Read The Bones.
White is Raise The Alarm.
Green for me is the Terra Stomper.

Warped Landscape not Warping Wilds. My bad. I don't know why I keep calling them that.

As far as consistency, I'm not really sure what to say. Standard is not overly friendly to tri-colored decks at the moment. Especially ones that don't run green. They can work, but they feel a bit more clunky than they did before this most recent rotation. A couple Evolving Wilds or Warping Wilds may help a little though. They allow you search for basic lands to fix what mana you have available. Plus a shuffle may save you from getting mana screwed. I know they were in an earlier iteration of a deck you had posted, but I can't think of anything in the sets you're asking for that will really help.

As for dealing with that combo... It's going to be a pain because it's a tough one no matter what. Now, despite your requested parameters about set, I'm going to say Hallowed Moonlight. That will end that combo.. But, since Origins is apparently a no no, I would suggest added removal that lets you target the victim of your choice. You could probably drop the artifacts in your sideboard for another Lightning Axe or two, as instants work best against these annoying flicker strategies. Another option is to add Murderous Compulsion, since you run Madness, as creatures flickered by the Displacer return tapped and playing the spell through Madness can work at instant-speed. More Anguished Unmakings would work as well. I just feel part of your problem here is that the bulk of your removal hinges on Sorceries and Creature abilities. Both of which are going to see the Displacer dancing all around you and controlling the game.

This looks like a fun deck to play.

Not nearly enough explosions or eagles...

General Magic / Re: powerful/fun cards with drawbacks?

The ones that come to mind right off the bat are Declaration in Stone and Anguished Unmaking, because I've been running them. The first gets rid of a lot but gives the other guy card advantage. Nothing quite as lame as helping them draw another copy of what you just exiled. The second can feel like punching yourself in the gut to get rid of just about anything you want. Also, almost every board wipe. Those can hurt everyone. The Gitrog Monster can be another. If you start missing land draws, he can quickly ruin your day.

This is a fun build. It's funny though, because no version of this deck I've seen ever runs a play set of either Zada or the Partisan. I get it with Zada being a legendary creature, but not so much with the Silverfur.

General Magic / Re: Deck Building Themes

I vary quite a bit in my deck builds. Sometimes I see some sort of combo or synergy that fascinates me so I design a deck around that (like the Ruthless Deathfang and Eldrazi Scions). Other times it's about a card I really like or see a lot of potential in (like the Soul Swallower). My main Standard deck is an anomaly as it's literally just things I really like thrown together in a workable deck. It started with the Acid-spewer Dragon, because I won with it in my first game of Magic ever, and the Managorger Hydra and I wanted +1/+1 counters, Lifelink, Deathtouch, morphs and dragons to factor prominently because I like all of those things. It also had to be Abzan colors because those are my favorite colors.. So, like I said, I vary.

Watched a guy take second at FMN this past Friday using a similar build. It was kind of cool to see.

Deck Reviews / Re: [Standard] Blue Green Awaken (Opinions Please)
« on: June 06, 2016, 12:02:40 am »
It's really not a bad build as is. While the cards suggested may help in their own way (especially the Embodiment that robort suggested) there is also the issue that if you are running Rise From The Tides they may cut into the number of instants and sorceries going into your graveyard. My only suggestion would be Brain In A Jar. While I don't believe you can use it to pay Awaken costs, it can pay for the land grab cards or even Rise and leave your mana largely free. It likely wouldn't be a game changer, it could potentially help without hurting your current strategy. If you add nothing though, the deck will probably still play fine.

"Terminated" sounds final. How did the deck do?

I actually like this build a lot. That combination of creatures and Odric.... It could easily make for some short games.

Okay, well test it and see if it works. If it struggles to trigger than I would suggest some type of throw away artifact creature as well as either Evolving Wilds or Fork in the Road. Only if it struggles though. It's totally possible to trigger as the deck is, it just seems it could be tricky.
