Goeie start Mattis,

That looks a lot better already.
Now play your deck a few games and you"ll find out which cards are good and which are not so hot.
The cards that tend to be stuck in your hand are the ones to replace with better options :)

For casual play, there are some cheap cards that you can add that would definitely improve your deck like
Arcum's Astrolabe, Stubborn Denial, Vault Skirge, Esperzoa etc.

Since this deck is meant for casual play I'll not go into the strengths/weaknesses of the deck.

Purely based on the number of lands you have in your deck I'd suggest to cut all cards that cost 5 CMC and more except for Daybreak Chimera and Sephara, Sky's Blade as they have alternative casting costs.
With 20 land your 5+cmc cards are going to be sitting in your hand most of the time.

In a basic deck like this, (without tutors or ramp etc ), with 20 lands / 60 cards, you get on average 1 land for every 3 cards you draw.
That means, for example, you'll need on average 18 cards = 11 turns to get to 6 mana before you can play a Serra's Guardian.
A lot of games will be over by then.

To give your deck a better fighting chance, I suggest :

Up your land total to about 22
Add at least 6 1cc creatures
Round out with more 2cc creatures.

You'll notice your deck is more on curve and you'll be able to play more spells as opposed to having cards stuck in your hand.

As a general rule of thumb for beginner's deckbuilding start with this type of build :

- 24 land
- 12 1CC
- 12 2CC
-  8 3CC
-  4 4CC

Good luck.

Deck Reviews / Re: [Legacy] Hands down, bro! (BU Megrim/Caress)
« on: October 20, 2020, 07:08:03 pm »
Piracy Charm :
It's not a great 1cc card but may be useful in your Megrim/Caress strategy and you can use it to remove a Dark Confidant or Thalia as well in a pinch.
Playing it early and hitting a land may not be all that effective.
Playing it late, with a couple of your enchantments out could be nice.
If you decide to use the card, I'd suggest no more than 2 since you really don't want to play them early or get them in your opening hand.

Liliana of the Veil :
Her -2 ability can be pretty devastating if your opponent want to use 1 beatstick to grind you down and if she gets to her ultimate that usually means game over.

Regarding your deck :
The way I interpret it,
It's built around Megrim/Caress, so you want these out asap BEFORE you hit your opponent with discard spells.
That brings me to
4 Dark Ritual
4 Liliana's Caress
4 Megrim

An opposing empty hand is bad for your strategy, so you need cards that put permanents back in his hand and make him discard
4 Recoil
4 Blizzard Specter ( Ritual it out T2 if possible )

Get more use out of your Recoils and other instants/sorceries
2 Mystic Sanctuary
2 Snapcaster Mage

Put cards in your and your opponent's hand as discard fuel
1-2 Jace Beleren

Success.

Hi, at first glance I would make these changes

+4 Dark Ritual ( you really want those enchantments out before you start playing your discard spells )
+4 Baleful Strix ( great defense and card draw )
+1 Liliana of the Veil
+2 Thoughtseize
+2 Recoil
+2 Nyxathid
+1 Force of Will

-1 Piracy Charm
-2 Unsummon ( SB )
-2 Inquisition of Kozilek
-2 Preordain
-2 Drown in the Loch
-1 Hypnotic Specter
-1 Urza's Guilt
-2 Liliana Vess
-3 Land

Overall :
discard is not the strongest strategy in Legacy.
Once your opponent's hand is empty and he plays every card he draws, your enchantments become largely useless.

With your strategy, Recoil is actually a perfect card.
If I were you I would start with 4 Recoils and build from there.
Add 2 Mystic Santuary to get your Recoils or Hymns back on top of your library.

It's always good to see someone making a substantial post to try stir some dialogue.

I don't play Standard, so I won't be able to offer much input on that front but l think you may be looking at the "state of white" from somewhat too small an angle.

Magic is more than just Standard and I wouldn't say that white is lacking power in Legacy ( which is my preferred format )
Cards like StP, Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, Stoneforge Mystic, Recruiter of the Guard, Terminus, Mother of Runes, Elspeth, Knight Errant, Humility, Enlightened Tutor, Orim's Chant and many more are all very good mono white cards which all see play.

Of course I wouldn't mind some new powerful white cards, as long as they're not OP.

Against creature heavy decks, Duress is often a dead card or very limited in what it can remove.
You may even find nothing to remove when you play it, resulting in 1 card loss and 1 mana cost for a peek at your opponent's hand.

With Thoughtseize you can always hit the most problematic/best non-land card your opponent has in hand.
As long as the opponent's hand is not empty or not just containing land you always hit something.

Deckstats Feedback / Re: Card Database

Hi Nils,
recently, when I hover over a card name (of my decks) there's a text on the image that says "approximate image".
The strange thing is there are still a few cards that don't show this but 95% or so does.
Any idea what's wrong here ?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I included the elixirs because I see two significant benefits :
1- shuffling key sorceries like Hymn, Sinkhole and Smallpox back into your deck increasing your amount of copies/effects and
2- adding a significant life gain per pop, which the deck can certainly use.

How effective they'll be remains to be seen though but I like the fact they can be ritualed out to be used and you get the ritual back as well.
There may be more effective cards in those slots however. Which were you thinking of ?
