General Magic / Re: Helping get a beginning player a better deck
« on: August 27, 2016, 11:04:50 pm »
Okay I modified the R/B madness a little already to make it a little better, like I said he's not too experienced. He drafted with myself and some of my friends, and played a little bit with some of my friends casually. The other night when last played he was having a little trouble with the madness mechanic, so we switched (i was playing his G/W support) and I showed him how to play the madness deck. I think he is still kind of learning the madness thing. I don't think he wants to play competitively because it gets expensive but he does want to have fun and be able to win. I can talk to him a little bit about it, but like the build you have because its a lot less than the stompy deck and, it seems fun to play.
I might wait a little bit to see if any one else has any ideas for this I am open for any thing. But the R/B madness deck looks pretty good.
Thanks guys

General Magic / Helping get a beginning player a better deck
« on: August 27, 2016, 09:28:48 pm »
So I recently taught my dad how to play magic so that I would have someone to play against at home. My dad has grasped the basic concepts of the game but doesn't really have a good deck. He bought the Green/White support pre-built deck from OGW and the Red/Black madness pre-built deck from SOI. As we all know these deck are pretty bad, and I want him to have a good deck that he can have fun with. He likes to play but if I use my standard deck which is a tier 3 R/W ally equip deck he just doesn't stand a chance. I asked my friend what I should get him and they said Green Stompy, the deck list is here- http://deckstats.net/decks/61302/556826-green-stompy- . Its a little more expensive than I intended (I was hoping for around $65), and I wanted to see what you guys think or if you had any ideas for a good beginner deck. Thanks.

So if I want to play an aggro control we might as well forget about Thing in the Ice because of its effect and it doesn't really fit in our aggro theme but w, can keep Reveler because its nice a nice card refill. I like the aggro build it sounds fast enough were you can get creature out build a board state as well as make sure the opponent can't build his own board. I really like this build and I am willing to let go of thing. I think exile burn spells is a great idea, as for my  play group one of my friends is building Red/Green eldrazi ramp, another one runs mono black discard, one runs a variety of decks but he is also a control player, I like what this is turning out to be. It just needs to be versatile. I think it is a good build and pretty much what I was looking for and it is not to expensive this looks great! Is there anything else that it potentially needs?

I really like it looks and sounds like a lot of fun! I kinda want to fit in a rise from the tides and with this deck not being a competitive I'm personally fine with it being a few cards over 60, yes its not preferable but if it ends up with a little over that is fine. I also want to play Thing in the Ice because its seems like it would be pretty easy to flip in this deck and it is a fun win condition. If we can't fit him in oh well I can deal with it but it looking to be a lot of fun and not particularly expensive. I think the max number of cards would probably be 65 for this deck if we go over. Also a friend of mine plays a graveyard deck that isn't very good but its really frustrating in the late game when he gets a 30/30 boneyard wurm and I really want to just beat his deck consistently. I also like the synergy between bedlam reveler and Thing in the Ice because they are both horrors so reveler doesn't come back to your hand. I feel like the way this deck is shaping up it is going to be a lot of fun to play.

I don't have a very big collection but I am willing to order cards online. As for the type I was thinking a counter/burn deck that dominates would be a lot of fun, but as player used to playing aggro I would love to hear about that variant as well. I don't have a steady income of cash since I'm in high school but I am willing to use proxies until I can but the actual cards. I want the deck to be versatile and be able to do well against most decks. I really liked being able to counter creatures before they hit the field. I was inspired to draft blue red because I built a Izzet deck in Magic 2015 for the xbox and I loved the synergy between guttersnipe, young pyromancer and goblin elctromancer.  Goblin Elctromancer would probably fun in this deck as well.

General Magic / Building a red-blue spells deck for playing casually.

So the last time I drafted during Friday night Magic, I drafted an Izzet spells deck and I did pretty good with it. This is the first time I have really played a control deck and I had a lot of fun. Normally I play creature based decks so this was a big change for me and I think I had more fun playing that way. I would like to build an Izzet burn/control deck. I have the basic creature base which has more creatures than it probably should but I like to have a nice board so if I tap out I have some defense. This is the creature list- 4 Thing in the Ice, 3 guttersnipe, 3 young pyromancer, and 1 bedlam reveler. As for spells I have- 4 lighting bolt and 1 rise from the tides, I need some help filling out the rest of the spells. I need good counter spells and other burn spells. What do you think?

Why not play Goblin Rabblemaster in the main or side board?

I built a similar deck to this but I have way more creatures which are all allies. Stone Haven Outfitter is a good card for this deck as well as Bone Saw. I also run 4 copies of Ally Encampment, and as long as all your creatures are mostly allies you don't really need evolving wilds. With mine all my creatures except for Bygone Bishop are all allies so I have a few copies of Lantern Scout and some other Kor allies that give you Rally effects. Its a good start.

White Soldier Token Deck (need help creating a side board for modern)

This is basically your typical white soldier deck, but it is just an improved version of the Elspeth vs. Koria duel deck. I added some control with a couple of Isolation Zones and a few other cards, but I don't know if that is enough. I also am having trouble building a side board for this deck and i definitely need one if I want to play competitively with it.

Deck Reviews / [Modern] Green/White Land Life
« on: March 19, 2016, 11:25:15 pm »
Green/White Land Life

A combination of cards that give you life when they enter the field and cards that give you life when land or creatures enter the field. The main card is Felidar Sovereign because this deck is trying to get you to 40 life for that instant win, but cards like Tajuru Pathfinder and Pelakka Wurm are there as heavy hitters when you need them.
Also it has a rare enchantment called Exploration its green and requires one forest to play. Give me advise for a sideboard and other cards that would be good in this deck.
