General Magic / Re: Commander 2019 Deck-building Challenge
« on: August 30, 2019, 10:12:17 am »
The first thing I noticed while playtesting was all the lands that entered tapped. This slowed the deck down slightly.
Yeah, after I posted the deck, I realized that I might have exaggerated the amount of tapped lands, but yeah.

The real kicker was trying to get Falkenrath Gorger every game. With only 4 ways of searching for it, it was hard to get it consistently.
I really dislike tutors in commander, so four is a lot to me. ;) But to be more consistent, like eight-ish would have been better, I see.

I just think that building a deck around a commander of which one paragraph of text should just be ignored is a waste. That has nothing to do with common sense. So yeah, here it is:  ;D

Anje without any cards with actual Madness is easy: All the vampires and Falkenrath Gorger. Don't forget a lot of tutors and recursion for the Gorger. Some sac effects if someone wants to exile it. Done.

I'm going to be totally honest here, I feel that there exists a great disparity in the challenge presented for each of these commanders, with atla being by far the easiest. (...) These examples stand in great contrast to some of the other challenges here, with myself finding the greatest issue with (...)
Kadena. Yeah, you could just go full manifest (and use this weird old Illusionary Mask, of course), but half of Kadenas printed text is useless in this challenge, while other commanders just get restrictions regarding usual strategies around them, but not making half of their rules text worthless.

Commander Discussion / Re: What's your "Pet Deck" in EDH?
« on: May 30, 2019, 08:36:14 pm »
First things you learn being new to Commander are a) mass removal is king in a multiplayer format, and b) your spells should be versatile, not very circumstantial.

So I've built a deck full of conditional spot removal.

Turns out: People are right. The deck is not very good. But it's a lot of fun! And you can get away with it because of those reasons:

Here's an older version of the list:

Deck Comments / Re: Atraxa Energy - Comments

Could be too few lands, I'd aim for at least 38. But Atraxa with Energy is a cool theme that you don't see too often, that's why I like it a lot.

Suggestions to cut for those lands: Chimeric Mass, Journeyer's Kite (you're in green. use good ramp!), Panharmonicon, Pyramid of the Pantheon, Vessel of Endless Rest, Angelic Renewal, Core Prowler, Foundry Inspector, Jhoira's Familiar, Ludevic's Test Subject, ; maybe cut Engineered Explosives and Ratchet Bomb at least for a Blast Zone?

And you don't run all of the three modules? You have to connect them in series! ;)

And with all your token generating effects, you could run Cathars' Crusade. It's awesome! Hangarback Walker and Chasm Skulker could support this theme as well. And customers who liked Grateful Apparition and Thrummingbird also liked Guildpact Informant (only available in the Jace planeswalker deck).

Oh, and where is Demon of Dark Schemes (!!!)? Die Young? Glimmer of Genius? Longtusk Cub? Multiform Wonder? Servant of the Conduit? Shielded Aether Thief? Maybe Confiscation Coup, too. And what about the guys who make Servos out of energy? They fit as well in your energy theme as in your token theme.

Well, seems I want to build this deck now ... it would only be my fourth Atraxa build so far ...

Cool budget deck, but there's some tweaking that needs to be done.

First: You'll never be able to activate Delirium with this build. Here's some budget stuff that helps: (LANDS) Evolving Wilds, Terramorphic Expanse, Blighted Fen, Blighted Woodland, Buried Ruin (see next category), Grim Backwoods, Memorial to Folly, Memorial to Unity, Sequestered Stash; (ARTIFACTS) Golgari Cluestone, Golgari Locket, Commander's Sphere, Hedron Archive, Wayfarer's Bauble, Burnished Hart, Executioner's Capsule, Nihil Spellbomb, Sylvok Replica, Unstable Obelisk, Voyager Staff (blink Ishkanah!); (ENCHANTMENTS) Crop Sigil, Durable Handicraft, Font of Fertility, Seal of Doom, Seal of Primordium, Vessel of Nascency, The Eldest Reborn, Archetype of Finality; (TRIBAL - yes, it's a seperate card type for Delirium) Eyeblight's Ending, Rootgrapple, Warren Weirding; (PLANESWALKERS) Nissa, Vital Force, Ob Nixilis Reignited, Vraska the Unseen

Just choose three to five of each category, take those which you like most, which you already own or which you can get your hands on easily.

Second: There are some cheap dual colored lands that you could use as well: Golgari Guildgate, Foul Orchard, Golgari Rot Farm, Hissing Quagmire (maybe), Jungle Hollow, Tainted Wood; Llanowar Wastes, Woodland Cemetery, and Temple of Malady aren't dirt cheap, but still quite budget friendly. A good utility land could also be Svogthos, the Restless Tomb.

Third: Cut Spidery Grasp. It seems on theme, but all your spiders have reach anyway, so it's completely useless and basically off-theme. ;)

General Magic / Re: EDH staples?
« on: March 30, 2019, 08:04:09 pm »
I have recently noticed that there are card Staples for specific commanders. For Example, my new favorite commander is Muldrotha, the Gravetide who I've built 3 EDH decks around (Elf Tribal, Toolbox, and Infect). And each of the decks has a Secrets of the Dead, Seal of Primordium, Reclamation Sage, Vessel of Nascency, Myriad Landscape, and Blighted Woodland.

I'd add River Kelpie to this list.

There's a page on tappedout where we collect all the pauper commanders and sort them by color (combination): http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/pauper-edh-primer/

This might be of some help to you as well.

Hey, another pauper commander player. \o/

Since you're running Gush in this deck, have you considered a spell that just got downshifted to common: Foil (aka pauper Force of Will)?

Also quite well in this deck: Moonfolk. They can return lands to your hand as part of the costs of their activated abilities. There are three or four of them whose abilities are worth running.

There are some ramp spells you don't run that I'd prefer over something like Mindstone or the Signet like 100%, e.g. Skyshroud Claim.

If you wanna talk more about pauper commander, feel free to contact me. There's a Discord channel and some other stuff to discover. ;)

I really like that deck. It's a bit like a Mardu version of my conditional removal tribal Kess deck. XD

But I think I'd play at least one more tutor for Sunforger, e.g. Taj-Nar Swordsmith. I run Sunforger in my morph tribal deck under Kynaios & Tiro, there I have some cards that can instant speed attach Sunforger again, like Auriok Windwalker or Brass Squire. Maybe you'd like to try them out?

Hey. Just wanted to let you know that Spidersilk Armor kills Sigil Captain bc your tokens are 1/2s now. ;)
