General Magic / Re: Cards with the same theme

Thank you very much! I just couldn't figure out the right name. I will redo my search with new experience, now. + Karma!

That's true. When it's 'each creature', Hexproof does not work. Since Hexproof only works for spells which target. So if someone targets your Hexproof creature in particular, the target spell won't work. If someone casts Judgment Day, for example, your creature is not targeted in particular, so it will die.

Source: I play a Hexproof Aura deck, I should know :)

General Magic / Cards with the same theme
« on: March 20, 2015, 09:05:18 am »
Hi there!

I am looking for cards with the same theme around them. I want to have some 'same of a kind'-cards in my cube. Unfortunately, my search didn't show anything good (probably because I used the wrong words, but I don't know how else to call those cards). To clarify what I mean, I have some examples:

Paragon of Eternal Wilds
Paragon of Fierce Defiance
Paragon of Gathering Mists
Paragon of New Dawns
Paragon of Open Graves

Or something like

Staff of the Death Magus
Staff of the Flame Magus
Staff of the Mind Magus
Staff of the Sun Magus
Staff of the Wild Magus

Or even cards like

Duskmantle Guildmage
Korozda Guildmage
New Prahv Guildmage
Nivix Guildmage
Rix Maadi Guildmage
Skarrg Guildmage
Sunhome Guildmage
Vitu-Ghazi Guildmage
Vizkopa Guildmage
Zameck Guildmage

I think you catch my drift. The most important thing is: The cards should be evenly splitted into the cube. Means: Same chance / balance for every card.
It doesn't matter wether there are artefacts, creatures, instants, sorceries or whatever there is. I just need a list which shows me what cards there are with those similarities.

Thanks in advance!

Nice, cheap deck. Slitherhead could also be an addition in case you need more creatures with cheap scavenge-skills, just an idea.

Nightveil Specter: You may play cards exiled this way, but you still have to pay them. Taking away toys is great, but being able to play them could be a problem. I would not pick that one for that reason.

All in all, it's a nice mono black deck. Looks good!

I see, now. Thanks for clearing that up. How often does that combination happen, realistically? You need to have the hand in order to play it like this, turn one. Sounds nearly impossible to me. Too many variables.

So, you play that in tournaments? How is it going?

Yeah so cool. What's the point of this deck?

Eladamri's Call muss raus, sonst ist es nicht Modern legal. Und eine vergleichbare gute Karte gibt es in Modern nicht. Höchstens Summoner's Pact, die aber am Ende 4 kostet (sonst GAME OVER).

General Magic / Re: Does anyone play Magic: Duels of the Planeswalkers?
« on: January 19, 2015, 12:21:52 pm »
Yes, but mostly to get the achievements. I never even tried the >2 player multiplayer game, because it just seems to take too long. Especially since the cards you can choose from are so sparce, once anyone can use any recommended deck on any homepage. It's quite different from buying cards in real life, because anyone can have any card (except for premiums, which you need to play or pay for), so there might be a point where you say "okay, he has deck X, I have Y, I will lose, concede", because it is obviout that you might lose.

So in the end, I didn't even bother online, at all. I just played for cards offline and achievements.

Yes, it really does suck. Nice idea in theory (looks like a deck from Magic 2015 on consoles), but it just does not do the trick.

Thanks for your reply, simur. 'Armadillo Cloak or Unflinching Courage' is a topic I've been wrapping my head around for quite a few weeks. It boils down to this:
With Armadillo Cloak, I can add up to any Lifelink or Spirit Link / Armadillo Cloak attached to enchanted creature, which is nice. With Unflinching Courage, I can't.
But then again, here comes the twist: Since Armadillo Cloak's pseudo-Lifelink is not a real ability in its own sense (such as Lifelink), it goes on stack. Since I cannot properly explain it, I would just post the links and quote from where I saw what the actual difference is:

"Armadillo Cloak also has a triggered ability, whereas Unflinching Courage gives the creature a static ability. So if you were at 1 life and you had a 10/1 blocking a 4/4 trample, you would lose if your 10/1 was enchanted with the cloak, but you would survive if it was enchanted with unflinching courage."

Yay not a chance to block anything. But I see what you did there.
