Deck Reviews / [Standard] G/W Midrange Tokens v2.3
« on: July 12, 2017, 12:44:28 am »
So some explanation about my choices and the logic behind some of the odd/unused in the meta slots & please feel free to ask any questions pertaining to it.
"Undergrowth Champion" is played because it deals with "Electrostatic Pummler" along with any damage removal spell,(ex: "Harnessed Lightning", "Magma Spray", "Archangel Avacyn" flip, "Hour of Devastation" ect.) in addition to being a great card that can chump block a 800/800 first strike trample and live to tell the tail. "Undergrowth Champion" synergises with "Primal Druid", "Rishkar, Peema Renegade", & "Nissa, Voice of Zendikar"

"Adorned Pouncer" is a "Boros Swiftblade" that has externalize, it also improves your curve. I believe this card will catch on when people draw the comparison to Swiftblade as I have.

"Mouth // Feed", now this card has been key in a number of my matches and tests. Yes 3 for a 3/3 is very underwhelming, however it can become 2 3/3 tokens with a "Anointed Procession" in play. The real reason for playing this card is for the Feed half. Drawing a card for every power 3 or greater creature is insane when you have a number of planes walkers that can make your creatures bigger in addition to most of the creatures having a way built in to be over power 3 or greater.

Plummet is in the side for "Glorybringer", "Heart of Kiran", "Archangel Avacny", & "Aethersphere Harvester" as all are a big part of the standard meta.

For the side Board "Solemnity" is important because of the -1/-1 decks cropping up. In game 2 you merely side out Rishkar, Undergrowth, & two Nissa. Then board in the 3 Solemnity and 3 Gideon.

This deck is marked as modern so, not viable in the least and has illegal cards. this is at best a kitchen table deck.

needs flusterstorm in the side. so you can "live the dream" in control matches or against storm.

you need basic mana, Blood moon resolves or Back to Basics and you have no rebuttal. as an example my brothers deck run 3 blood moon in the SB(4 waste land main) and if he resolves a blood moon and keeps waste landing im dead in the water typically and will concede the game which is why i always fetch for my basics first. so even though you may have enchantment/permanent removal you will never get the mana to cast them. great deck other wise

i would put in muscle slivers over megantic slivers.

& as an idea what about virulent sliver over the death toucher(keep in mind when a infect creature hits another creature its keeps a -1/-1 counter on it)? would open up green sun zenith and allow you to swing for leathel out of no where. turn 4 green sun for 2 virulent sliver, swing for 10 poison?
a 3rd idea would be galerider sliver. another great part i see alot of sliver decks miss out on is mutavualt.

im not sure what you want me to comment about? are they theme decks or are you actualy trying to make modern/standard decks. if your going modern then you need to ween your self off  theme, as you need lightning bolts and lightning helix's with some figure of destiny to boot. if your going standard dont as your cards as phaseing out. if your playing kitchen top magic carry on.

I also assume you do not have access to a proper mana source due to price.

It was in a recent Starcity games article just about storm based decks that having just a tendrils of agony in the deck with no Empty the Warrens can cause the deck to get shut down by Leyline of Sanctity with no chance of being able to make a play unless you abrupt decay(which is your game 2 and you would have no clue if hes boarding in leylines unless you got the deck list). I like the xantid swarm and chain vapor alot, as thoes deal with buying you time or locking down the leyline.
Maybe 1 Empty the Warrens or chain vapor into the mainboard?
also what do you side out in game 2, you seem to have very little wiggle room other then your discard(thought seize, cabal therapy, gitaxian probe).
all the above also applys to meddling mage. & seeing a meddeling mage leyline of sanctity go in game two is not uncommon in legacy.

the deck looks interesting but closer to table top magic, deff not legacy as its labeled.  I say this because of counterswell and undermine paired with the fact that you run blue with no cantrips(brainstorm, ponder, preordain, wild cantor, chromatic star, chromatic sphere, ect...) while brainstorm is a MUST  if you run blue. your mana base is another issue that could be a price constraint, that i understand. consider daze, flusterstorm, counterspell, spell pierce, brainstorm, preordain, ponder. replacing some of your current cards with these cards as they are cheap (save flusterstorm) and would automatically make your deck better.

Played death and taxes 4 times in a tournament go 2/0 vs it every time. death blade and delver struggle with this deck as well but its closer to a fair match. but it falls flat on its face vs 4post, stacks, and depths. on avg 3 of 5 games I just board a Jace and sit behind counterbalance/top and wait 5 turns to pop Jace.
Any one else have issues with land based deck as miracles?

Merfolk is a funny game too. Just wait for them to board 3 creatures and they walk into that Terminus.
