The first thing I'd do is create categories to sort the cards into (lands, removal, card draw/filtering, win conditions, etc.). For Augur of Bolas and Kefnet, the instant & sorcery count in your deck is too low (about 1 in each 3 cards). For Augur, you only have a 71% chance of hitting a card (my personal threshold for important events in my decks is 80%), and for Kefnet, it's 33%. Complete Disregard is definitively inferior to Hero's Downfall, Power Word Kill, Baleful Mastery or Heartless Act. Instead of 4 Languish, I'd try to "mix it up" a bit, meaning I'd take maybe 2 Languish, and 1 of each of two different wrath effects that hit other selections of creatures, so that you have an answer to a broader range of decks. Give https://mtgdecks.net/Pioneer/dimir-control a shot and look at some of the winning decklist to get an idea what the most efficient cards are currently. I really like Murderous Rider, btw., even if it's not much played at the moment.

Do you play this deck, or is it just a theoretical excercise?

Now I'm returning the favor :-)
Also built an Izzet deck now, thanks to your inspiration.

By all means! I have been playing with it a lot and really enjoy it. Currently testing Devouring Light in the sideboard against obnoxious blockers like Kalitas and to stop the Walking Ballista combo.

This Wednesday (05th March) is the first tournament I will be playing the deck. I'll be posting results, changes, comments, etc.

I saw it play yesterday (slightly altered), and it kicked butt. Needs to be piloted well, though; it's not easy to get the sequencing right.
Tasigur was great (almost no removal that deals with him)!

@ MonteTribal - That's a good point! Only splashing green for a turn 4 card makes the mana base much better.

That's a nice build you have there!

Have you played with it yet? I have not, so I am curious about this :-)

I really wonder how well the manabase for Abzan can perform in Pioneer: how much damage you end up taking from the Shocklands and the Confluence. Not having Fetches really makes a difference.

Also: why no Hangarback Walker and Smuggler's Copter and Scavenging Ooze?
Your build has a lot of 3- and 4-drops, but almost nothing to do on turn 2 specifically.
Is there a reason for this?

Cheers,
Jan

How many games have you played with this deck against somewhat good Modern decks? I would like to hear your experiences.

How consistent can you win if you don't draw a Siege Rhino? Your other win conditions seems very slow.

I am playing with a deck that goes into a similar direction: https://deckstats.net/decks/32740/889205-abzan-graveyard-blink-rhino-ri/en ,
but is using graveyard recursion instead of Athreos.

Abzan value decks are always a blast to play :-) It's a shame that Modern has gotten so fast ...

You only have 4 good 1drops (for the first turn).
Why not use Attune with Aether as a playset and go down on lands?

Thanks for the effort of collecting this info!

Have you played this deck in Modern FNMs or against "normal" decks to see how it plays?

Great list!
Maybe also bit by bit include utility lands like Gavony Township or Mirrorpool etc.?

Great idea!!!

Have you tested this deck against other Modern decks yet? I would be really interested to know how it plays.

Regarding Howl of the Horde: since you want to cast it together with a 1-mana spell, this is a CMC4 card. If you draw 11 cards, the probability of having 4 mana with 20 in your deck is 54%. That's maybe enough for one copy in your deck, as a finisher, but not more ...
