My deck relies on Lifelink and the dealing of damage to create massive creatures.

Goblin deck

Just for the fun of it, I decided to build a Goblin deck. It's main goal is to cast creatures quickly to knock out an opponent.

This deck could use another Blood Moon or two, and perhaps a few more Goblins. Maybe eliminate Feldon's Cane.

Forced to Attack

This Green/White combination deck focuses on the main theme of forcing an opponent's creatures to attack, and then killing them off by doing so. The combination of lure and venom work perfectly, as well as Thicket Basilisk. Some creatures become even more deadly if more than one creature blocks it. I threw in some 1/1 creatures just to get something out in the field early in the game.

A Walk in the Plains

A white deck devised to cause my opponent fits by destroying creatures, rendering them useless, or taking control of them. Plus I get to have a little fun by destroying lands.

Mean, Green, Fighting Machine

This deck was designed to get out creatures quickly, but perhaps some Elves would help do that even quicker. I also designed this deck to be a quasi land destruction deck with Thermokarst and Desert Twister. With Unseen Walker and Hollow Trees combined with Gaea's Leige, I can attack my opponent without fear of being blocked.

Faerie Frenzie

My wife asked me to build her a faerie deck, so here's my take on a blue/black faerie deck. I usually like decks limited to 60 cards, but I'm finding it difficult to part with any more cards in this deck. The only way I'd cut 13 more cards is by going with two of some creatures. I think at that point the deck loses some potency because of the power-up abilities many of them offer. I welcome any suggestions in effectively narrowing down the deck.

Since this deck is built mostly for speed, and hopefully the ability to pump up the faeries into stronger and tougher creatures, I've kept in multiple counter spells to protect myself from bigger creatures.

Back in Black

This deck doesn't overpower to get victories, but it does a little bit of everything. It can destroy creatures and land. My favorite combination is the Norritt and Royal Assassin. A straight vampire deck would be cool, but alas, I don't own that many.

To start the game, the goal is to draw a Dark Ritual and play Hypnotic Specter right away. Hopefully my opponent has trouble playing cards and I can whittle their hand in the meantime.

Johan might seem out of place since I'm not playing Mountains, Plains, of Forests, but it's a nice card to discard at the beginning of the game, and then bring back to life from the graveyard as a third round creature.

Black Death

This is a fun little deck made up of rats and other dirty creatures which will stop at nothing to spread their disease upon any victim. The deck was built for speed in the hopes of quickly dealing damage while doling out poison counters.

Faerie Frenzie

My wife asked me to build her a faerie deck. I think I've narrowed down the cards I want included, now I need to whittle down the numbers to get to 60 cards.

I'm debating whether or not to include Silvergill Douser. While not a faerie, it does impact that creature type.

Once or twice I've considered building a dragon deck, but after seeing yours, I definitely want to build one of my own. Have you considered adding a Shivan Dragon or two?

Singing the blues

This is probably one of my favorite decks because of the various ways it can cause an opponent fits. No blue deck would be complete without a way to counter spells or remove creatures from the playing field. Those creatures which make it onto the battlefield? Not to worry, there are ways to copy (Clone and Vesuvan Doppelganger) those creatures, or take them as my own (Control Magic and Seasinger). Of course, for Seasinger to be effective against an opponent not playing Islands, I rely on Phantasmal Terrain and Mystic Compass. Finally, no blue deck is complete without the Merfolk Assassin and War Barge combination.

Deck Reviews / [Casual] Counter deck (it's not what you think)

Counter deck (it's not what you think)

This is not a counter spell deck. It's a deck designed around the use of counters either to represent created creatures or to keep track of the power and toughness of other creatures. When it works, the deck is designed to create 1/1 or 0/1 creatures to pump up the Keldon Warlords and Maraxus of Keld. Direct damage cards help aid in the process by forcing Spiny Starfish to regenerate.

This is my first and only attempt at using three colors in one deck. Sometimes it can be difficult getting out the right mana to cast spells. Higher casting cost cards, or those requiring high cost to use abilities, can become tougher to use when some mana producing cards are no longer on the table.

This deck could use a revision and perhaps I'll into doing that. Apparently I'm one short of 60 cards, so there's that.

Earth's Eradication

A deck which always gave my brother fits is my land destruction deck. I think it's quite versatile with the weapons available to me. With the right opening hand, the match could pretty much be over before it starts. If I start the game with a bad draw, all is not lost. I have multiple ways to clear the board and start over again.

Obviously the goal of this deck is to destroy land and hopefully force an opponent to empty his/her library. But I do have other tricks up my sleeve. Cards like Howling Mine, Millstone, and Grindstone help along this process, as does Helm of Obedience (which would be my only source of creatures).

I have a number of different cards which can help eliminate land whether they be in play, in an opponent's hand, or still in their library.

I can deal damage via the Black Vices, as well as through the playing or destruction of a land.

If I were to redesign this deck, I'd likely remove two of the Black Vices and double up on a couple of the other cards.

Bleeding Red

About 20 years ago my brother and I decided to do an in-house tournament to see who had the better Magic deck. There were probably 15 decks between us. Each deck faced every other one in the best of three series. The top eight based on win percentage were then seeded until a champion was declared. I can't explain why, but this red deck came out on top.

There's really no strategy or theme other than to try to keep my opponent at bay while I secure enough mana to break out the big guns.
