Deck Reviews / [Modern] G/W Landfall

G/W Landfall

Was looking into capitalize on the Landfall mechanic by abusing life gain, card draw, and in the process, build a superior board presence. This deck is still a rough draft, and I'm open to any/all suggestions for improvement! Please review the deck, and give me your input!   :)

play lands, get free mana from Lotus Cobra, sac lands to Knight to get more lands and more free mana for quick ramping into Rampaging Baloths and Archangel of Thune. Baloths make more creatures, Archangel makes those creatures bigger, and gains your life. enchantments to gain life, draw cards. Crucible of worlds to rotate lands from your graveyard back into play to repeat the process.

TurboRaptor

"Turbo" Polyraptor Combo!
Use mana dorks to ramp up to quick 4 mana creatures like forerunner and ripjaw. Use eldritch evolution to work your way up to polyraptor. Follow the mana curve for evolution:
Evolve caryatid into ripjaw.
Evolve ripjaw into Carnage tyrant.
Evolve Tyrant into Polyraptor.
Making sure forerunner is on the battlefield along with impact tremors will give you an "infinite" combo kill!
Need ways to make Forerunner of the Empire indestructible for infinite combo to work.
OPEN TO UPGRADE IDEAS!!

While i definitely agree with the suggested artifact lands, that would eliminate your ability to legally play in Modern format. I currently have a similar deck build that uses those same artifact lands that i use for at home game nights with friends. A quick suggestion for a more competitive edge to your Modern build, i would definitely swap some lands out for Watery Grave, Polluted Delta, and maybe some Sunken Hollows. This will ensure a more reliable mana base for your spells.

Azorious Aggro

Looking to build an atypical azorious deck not centered around counter spells. The idea of the deck is to have primarily creature interactions control the board for you. PLEASE MAKE SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT!!  I'm not a regular control player, I prefer creature builds, hence this deck's theme.

Thanks for the input! I appreciate all suggestions! I'll give the mb Brutalities a try and see how they do. I did also at some points replace Heir of Falken Rath with Wharf Infiltrator (set for set) and the also worked very well for discard, but I need to keep blue for them. And Voldaren, surprisingly, at least in my experience thus far, has been hitting the board pretty reliably. Only having 2 was a key element to that reliability though. I originally ran a full set and THAT was definitely an issue. However, to substantiate your claim, she is usually one of my board-out options for games 2 & 3.
Please let me know if you have any other suggestions! And thanks again!

Dimir Undead - Kalitas' Zombies

So this was intended to be a dinner table special, game night with the friends, just some good fun, turns out, it's pretty good competitively as well.
If looking for a decent modern legal build, the posted deck list should work just fine, plenty of removal/interaction. recurrence of creatures is a moderate theme throughout the deck. Swing and/or block liberally with your smaller, recurring creatures, they'll come back so don't worry about losing them.
Cryptbreaker is a good discard outlet and token generator, also allows you to draw more cards, great toolbox creature.
Heir of Falkenrath is another great discard outlet the gives some decent power in the air, I have however noticed that Wharf Infiltrator does an equally good job, if not better, of cycling through your deck if looking to replace the flyer.
Voldaren Pariah is another great threat, get her out early using her madness casting trigger, then use her sac ability to grow her stats and gain a mini board-wipe in your favor.
Kalitas is your top-end game-ender. If his lifelink isn't enough to keep up with a super aggressive competitor, then I would suggest bringing in either Vampire Nighthawk and/or Gifted Aetherborn to maintain a healthy life total while building a superior board presence.

if looking for CASUAL play, (not modern legal):  Ghoulcaller Gisa is a MUST in this deck! use her ability to sac a token or any other recurring creature, get potentially double zombie tokens. She's GREAT for building a large board threat.

The one Island, while can be frustrating at times, is your insurance against Blood Moon type effects to ensure you can cast your blue cards.

Polyraptor is one of the major combo pieces for the deck. Can't go without it. He allows for an explosive turn and possible GG.

I do like gather the townsfolk, but raise the alarm made the cut, in my opinion, because I favor the Instant speed, so I can flash it in on my opponent's end step, and attack right away, or used them as surprise blockers.

Infinite Spike

infinite combo includes Devoted Druid and Quillspike.
1. Tap druid to generate mana.
2. add -1/-1 counter to Druid to untap her.
3. Pay floated mana to remove the -1/-1 counter from Druid and to give QUillspike +3/+3 until end of turn.
4. Repeat until lethal.
BONUS STEP!! 5. Nest of scarabs and Hapatra will generate infinite token creatures during this combo!

I said to fuel madness, not trigger. Meaning to fuel the engine of the deck.. Again... Using imagination in flavorful text, thinking outside of the box on the simantics friend. Apologies I don't write everything more literally.
