as soon as you have 4 lands you will be able to draw 2 rats every turn, but you will only draw 1 each other turn, so maybe something to draw more cards and/or simply use less lands would be good. I would use only 40 lands or less and add some drawing cards and a pack rat.

yeah but smallpox won't work if you have already used polling venom or rain of tears. your oponent will sacrifice one of the enchanted lands and you would have wasted it.

I know you said you made this deck with what you had in hand, so you won't be able to apply those tips right now, and maybe you already know some of it, but I'll say them anyway :)

- Any good deck needs to focus on a low amount of diferent strategies. If you take a lot of diferent cards and put only one or two of each, you will end up with a bunch of cards that won't really work well together, and you will always have a different hand. For that same reason, every card you have after 60, is only another turn you need to draw before you can have the needed cards to complet your strategy. Having the minimum amount of cards (60) and try to use only those cards that really go with you strategy is usually the best way (there are some exceptions).

My first deck was a duel deck that I bought with my girlfriend. Duel decks are packs of 2 prebuilded decks that are meant to be played one against the oder. They are really bad, but I tried it, took the strategies I liked the most from it, and started replacing cards one by one. I would suggest you to do something similar: take this deck you just made, play it and see what strategies you like the most. Then go to gatherer.wizards.com
and try to find cards that would help this strategies. usually you will need at least 2 copies of the same card for it to work, because if you have only one you will draw it in really rare ocasions and it won't help much (again, there are exceptions), and for most cards you will be using 3 copies or 4.

good luck with your first deck!

I'm not sure what's your strategy here. If you are using a deck with virtually 48 cards (with the cromatich things and proohetic prism) and the Urza's lands (enabling you to have a lot of mana soon enough) I think you should consider using something stronger, since you have creatures that allow you to resist but nothing really strong enough for the final blow. I would search for stronger artifact creatures like Darksteel Colossus as creature winning card, and maybe keep somthing of what you already have to resist until then, or add some control cards.

Oh, and maybe you could use Ulvenwald Hydra or Primeval titan for land searching, wich would be better than game-trail changeling (not sure why you are using this card) and you could even use less expedition map then.

Also, Mishra's bauble is way better than prophetic prism I think. You have enough green lands and the chromatic artifacts to have green mana so this card is just slowing you dawn becose of the mana cost. Mishra's Bauble does more or less the same for free (exept that you can't use it to get green mana).

TBH, I didn't really know what to do with the other cards in the deck.  I was more excited about the combo XD.

xDDD yeah that happens xdxd. I think you just need to be sure that your combo appears allways and before you opponents wins. so you need control+defending creatures (or more control instead) + a way to make the combo appear soon enough (and to appear for sure, becouse if you don't have your combo you can't win with that deck). either that or you add in your deck something else to win in order to make it if the combo doesen't shows.

The combo looks cool, but the probabilities to have those 3 cards before you get killed aren't really big... maybe you should use something like diabolic tutor in order to find cards, or mishra's bauble to have a smaller deck, or maybe more card to draw, not only your 3 read the bones.

also, are you sure that those rats are the best creature to be in this deck? ravenous rats are good for control, but pack rats seems a bit weak here. and fleshback marauder will make you sacrifice one of the few creatures you will have. I would personaly rather
Nezumi Shortfang for the discard or Gifted Aetherborn /vampire nighthawk to block with deathtouch. Maybe even some walls or just something that spawns tokens as you wanted, but not at the price that pack rats does... well, at least that's my opinion :)

yeah but if you take out Shaper Apprentice you have nothing with flying or reach so you might have some troubles against flying creatures... maybe you should use some merfolk with flying or something not-merfolk with flying and +1/+1. I would use Siren Lookout or Storm Fleet Aerialist (or put back again Shaper Apprentice). I have to say however that i'm a modern player and I'm not sure if in standard you can go without flying defense.

Also, I've been thinking and maybe Vineshaper Mystic is even better than Shapers of nature. or if you like Shapers of Nature you may want both, Vineshaper Mystic looks really cool for a +1/+1 merfolk deck I think. I would try combinations with both and see how does it works :)

I think that your mana won't really work. manalith is not a great card, evolving wilds will slow you down and there is a chance that you won't have the opportunity to cast your green cards. you should use some bicolor lands and whipe out the manalith and maybe evolving wilds as well.
also, your only good reason to be using red here is becouse of soul-scar mage ability. so I would use more soul-scare mage and change puncturing blow (4 mana seems a lot) for more dual shot and lightningh strike (specially dual shot, that would make 2 -1/-1 counters).

maybe something that makes your tokens stronger could work well too. and you could use something with flying or reach... maybe Obelisk Spider ? however you maight be able to pass without it since you can destroy the flying stuff with counters or lethal sting.

Why don't you youse sorin, lord fo innistard instead? it create more tokens and the lifelink would help you with your life lost because of Bitterblossom. and maybe bloodline keeper could work here as well but it's a bit slower.

anointed procession could also work here. and I might be wrong but in my opinion 4 liliana's is too much here... I would use 3 max.

Herald of Secret Streams  and maybe Shapers of Nature. Shapers of Nature  of nature ability is a bit expensive but I would prefer it before jade guardian. I think 4 mana for what jade guardian does is too expensive, however it is true that it's hexproof can be useful.

pristine talisman would make your Ajani's pridemate gain a sure counter every turn while helping with your mana, but if you are running only 2 pridemate maybe it wouldn't be really usefull.

Angelic Accord could be greate in this deck, and/or Crested Sunmare
