It went alright. A friend of mine played the energy variant which seemed to be more versatile. I was a bit underwhelmed by Nicol Bolas, The Ravenger. Lost to full control decks, even with sideboard. Deck lacks card draw so I swapped some mainboard pieces. Haven't played with it since, but will give it another shot this week.

Yeah that's just me trying to figure out the direction I want to go. I just put this deck together yesterday and will test it out this week. You make some good points, I will switch Pia Nalaar with Supreme WillRekindling Phoenix is in the spot of the 4th Nicol Bolas, the Ravager in the event I like it and want to fill the 4th. Not sure though, maybe it is too many.  Perhaps I'll drop the phoenix for another Scarab God. I'll give this a shot at my LGS this week. Thanks for the feedback!  I haven't played Grixis since energy was more dominate. Hope this one does well!

Deck Reviews / Re: Need help on my Standard FNM deck

Yahenni, Undying Partisan is an all-star in the deck, put it in. Someone at my LGS plays this deck and mono black and it works really well. Cut Dispossess as you already have Duress and Lost Legacy. Vraska's Contempt over Never // Return.

Crook of Condemnation is better than Sentinel Totem in my experience as you can remove GPG targets on the stack, however Scrapheap Scrounger would be great for your deck, even mainboard, as you can sack to Yahenni if needed and remove your graveyard targets for The Scarab God. A couple Moment of Craving would be good sideboard pieces and possibly Kitesail Freebooter. 4 Fatal Push for sure and you can take out two Walk the Plank. Bump Gifted Aetherborn up to 4. Battle at the Bridge might be a consideration if you're going to continue using a lot of artifacts, it will kill Hazoret the Fervant. Couple Aethersphere Harvester would be my last suggestion to gain life, stop Glorybringer and Rekindling Phoenix. Full playset of Ifnir Deadlands. Good luck and enjoy the deck!

Not enough room for all of the good cards. I like to run full playsets of Fatal Push and Blossoming Defense. Deadeye Tracker in the sideboard is just for graveyard hate.

Nice, thanks for the info! I just built a similar themed deck based off of this and the first deck I practiced against was mono red agro. I found that weakness really quickly and made some changes already, namely the inclusion of full playset of Sacred Cat and two Abrade.  Still working on it so I don't die on turn 5 first game without sideboard lol! I'm short a few cards so I'm using proxies at the moment, once I get the cards in the mail I'm taking this to my FNM next week for sure. I love using non meta decks in standard.

Really interesting in trying this or similar version of this deck deck. How has it worked out for you so far, have you tried it against meta decks?

The biggest change I made was Lifecrafter's Bestiary, I think I need this most against BW Approach. Shapers' Sanctuary wasn't helping me enough and if I can get it down without it being countered I'll be in great shape with scrying.

I played standard two days and got my butt kicked hard against God-Pharaoh's Gift and BW Approach of the Second Sun. However I did make some wrong sideboard changes during my game vs God-Pharaoh's Gift, I almost had him game 3 and I forgot to use Deathgorge Scavenger. I needed to make some changes to better deal with those decks. I need those 4 Prey Upon for more creature removal, I'm not pulling it enough. Also need Carnage for when they play Settle the Wreckage - it gives me a lot of land that I need to have a good use for lol. I'm going to try this change next standard event and see how it works.

I didn't think of her while I was using Shapers' in the mainboard. Now that it's sideboard its okay. I also didn't have her until yesterday when I opened a few booster packs haha. Lastly, I am not sure how haste will work on turn 5+ but it could be very interesting to find out!

I dropped Carnage, trying one more Myriarch and will try Nissa in the 5 drop slot. I'll keep Croc nearby if I ever feel like I need to change it out. He's pretty good for sure. I have another standard event coming up tomorrow night so I'll give it a shot.

You did help a lot! I get discouraged building my own decks sometimes and it's nice to have a helpful community. Your time spent alone just reading and replying is very much appreciated.

I enjoy using non meta decks for FNM and this one was a real hit. I'm very happy it worked fairly well and thankful for your help! Yup, everyone hates Narnam Renegade and they will tend removal on it early which is totally fine with me since two turns later I'm likely to play Rhonas. I'm thinking the same about dropping Carnage and adding more Myriarch. Maybe another solid 4 drop and one more Myriarch. Carnage is fun but I can win with trample with my 3-4-5 drops. By thew way, one game I used 3 of my Hashep desert tricks, so all 4 is worth it :-)

Alright I made some changes. Ranging Raptors was alright, but I changed them for Merfolk Branchwalker since I'm sideboarding Shapers' Sactuary. After playing against Winding Constrictor and Walking Ballista I realized I need creature removal, so Prey Upon is back. Sorcery speed is fine for my deck. Other than switching Blossoming Defense with Heroic Intervention, I just changed up sideboard. This deck is so much fun to play and it really caught everyone off guard too. Ramunap Hydra, Majestic Myriarch, Rhonas the Indomitable are all-stars in the deck, they really shine. Each game that I had all 3 creatures on the battlefield it was game-over.

Really good! I went 2 wins (+1 buy) and 1 loss during FNM and played a few casual games before and after. I went 1-2 against Ramunap Red, 2-1 against RGW Dinos, 2-1 against UBG energy. I'm very happy with the deck and I think I may make some small revisions. Some suggest changing up sideboard and few changes to main board. They suggest; Shapers' Sanctuary only sideboard when facing red or black decks only, main board Blossoming Defense instead of Heroic Intervention and only sideboard that for facing white or mass removal, keep Deathgorge Scavenger sideboard for God-Pharaoh's Gift or The Scarab God decks, Lifecrafter's Bestiary sideboard for control decks, consider only 2 Appetite for the Unnatural and maybe 2 Slice in Twain sideboard. I can't remember if anyone said anything about Manglehorn sideboard, but I assume maybe remove it. Other suggestions were more Merfolk Branchwalker and mixed opinions about Ranging Raptors. I will look at it closely tomorrow and make some changes.

Oh duh, I see your point, I totally forgot about Rhonas ability LOL! I will give it a try and play with it tonight.

I want to find an alternative to Ranging Raptors, preferably something in the 2 drop range or something with 4 power for Rhonas enable. So far I've only had 1 game with more than 1 Hashep. I want to get it online as soon as possible. I'm okay adding Lifecrafter's Bestiary if needed as an option too, but again looking to maximize creatures for Shapers' Sanctuary.
