What you're talking about should still work then. You can either use the option to paste/upload a list or to use the text-based editor and paste the list (see attachment).

Unless for whatever reason it's not picking up on the German names for cards after you paste the list.

Allright, the main problem was my own stupidity. the bottom bar was hidden behind the cookie banner.  ::)

Mhh.. I think I'm thinking about a different problem.

With the old deck uploader I was able to throw in a list, let the page parse it, and afterwards take a look at the result. If the parser got problems with some of the cards, there would be an error message for that cards and I could check in for them in detail in order to track down the problem. now I select the deck list, press ctrl + c, then switch to the deck builder, press ctrl + v and nothing happends. Since there is no (visible) error message, I also can't check what's going wrong and fix the problem.

For the problem with cards translated into the same name, I know the set she has bought and at least trust in the translators that errors like this doesn't happen within a set. Besides that I'm from germany so it wouldn't even be a problem to read the german cards. But I prefere the english wordings since they are usually a little more precise and I'm WAY more familiar with the english card names than the german ones.

The main reason for me to throw the list into a deck list would have been, that I can check on those cards in batch, in stead of taking every name and throw it into scryfall in order to see which card that was.

General Magic / Re: most cost effective way to build your collection
« on: July 06, 2021, 03:18:56 pm »
I really will have to look at singles, I guess the trick is to keep and eye on the cost total of the deck as i'm buildibg it...

That's most likely the way to go. As for expensive cards, ask yourself if they are really worth it. Some players (especially new ones) tend to value win more cards way to high, combined to enablers.
In order to make an example, take a look at Colossification. On the first look "woah, +20/+20! that means next to evey commander gets the ability to kill other players with a single attack". But if you take a closer look then, the tap clause really ruins this plan because a) you need addtional tools that allows you to untap your commander or b) you need to make sure that both cards survive until your next turn. Or to be a little more general: The more conditions needs to be fulfilled in order to make (full) use of a card, the less likely it's worth to spend big amounts of money for it.
On the other hand, something like Birds of Paradise may be an expensive buy, but its very cheap to play and really helps you with color fixing (besides the fact that it ramps).

Besides that, if you want to avoid expensive cards, it's always good to take a look for replacements. Those alternatives usally have some disadvantages (e.g. higher mana cost) but are often cheaper. In order to provide a quick example again, in stead of Counterspell you could also buy Cancel in order to lower the budget. Unless you really want to play on tournament niveau, there is no need to only only best in slot.

General Magic / Deckbuilder upload deck [solved]
« on: July 06, 2021, 02:03:26 pm »
Hey,

a friend which I bought 2 Decks as bithday present now decided to buy a fatpack in order to improve those decks. She has send me a list of cards she thinks that could be interesting. Since she bought the pack on German but I prefere english for stuff like Magic, I struggle with all the card names.
Now to my Problem: My Idea was taking the card list she has send me, paste it into a new deck and check then what she's got. The problem is, the option for uploading decks is gone and ctrl + c and ctrl + v doesn't work (most likely a formatting problem or something like that). Ideas how to solve this problem more efficiently than checking every single card at scryfall?

General Magic / Re: What universe crossover do you want?
« on: April 29, 2021, 10:06:04 am »
In general I don't like the crossover idea that much, since we know that at least some of those cards will be a) legal for the eternal formats and b) premium only. This is something that really doesn't fit for me.

With that being said, they have already mentioned Warhammer:40k which could(!) offer some interesting stuff, if(!) they do it right. Besides that, I would really like to see more Chthulu references in general (Library of Leng says 'Hi').

Some diskworld stuff could also be nice, but I think that's more something for a un- set. Still I would like to see a badass Cohen as commander (Babarian tribe?).

I'm not terribly upset. I just refuse to buy that stuff. I don't care for as long as they don't print SL exclusive cards that would be hard to obtain afterwards.

Sadly they have more or less already anounced that they will do this again:
Quote
On that note, Universes Beyond products will generally be sold in all Magic channels—these will not be strictly Secret Lair products.
https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/news/magics-voyages-universes-beyond-2021-02-25

"not be strictly" reads for me like "ofc we will print more SL exclusive cards, but don't worry, we will also print some of those special cards more available for the plebs".

Full Agree, this is absolutely nuts.  :o

50$ (1$ per card) for this meme print would have been acceptable, but 300$ (or 240$ with the current discount)... thats 6$/4.8$ per card... damn, I even lack words in order to describe how greedy and disapointing this feels for me.

/edit:

It’s okay if you can’t find the words to describe your joy—you’ll have plenty in the future.
I think there is a typo in the description, 'joy' feels like the wrong word. disapointment? anger? I think there are alot of words that would fit better than joy.

On the other hand.. this could be an reference to the game "We happy few", since I would have to pop a Joy (the drug everyone is taking ingame in order to think everything is great) in order to actually like the product (with the given price).

Deck Reviews / Re: The Cult of Many Heads

Hey,

since you are already here, what about creating a deck here, importing your file and then sharing the link here? This way we could review your deck with the tools deckstats provides.

I would really love to see some meaningful support for my Depala deck (Boros Dwarfs/Vehicles). I really like it themewise, but with my given playgroup its bringing a stick to a knifefight.
Both has seen a somewhat interesting card here and there, but until now there was nothing that made me think like "allright, that's the card you where looking for in order to push the powerlevel back into the line".

General Magic / Re: Card prices and what on earth is happening
« on: April 13, 2021, 12:11:44 am »
I hope that the rising prices cause the necessary pressure on WotC in order to make them think about the reserved list again. I mean some cards are on RL for a reason. But alot of others aren't that much stronger than the stuff WotC has printed over the last years and they are just that expensive because of the lacking supply.

To make this clear, I don't expect WotC to nuke the RL. But a fair revision about the cards on the list should be fair, especially since there are some EDH staples on it. I don't even expect them to change the legaly of the reprinted cards.
This could also have the side effect of casting Reanimate on Legacy, because the paywall would be lowered.

Commander Discussion / Re: Idea for a new Deckbuilding Challenge

This is probably the craziest commander (or even card in general) I've ever seen. Maybe the companions were weirder, idk.

I think a big draw is how quick this gets going. Codie is only 3 mana, and its (hers? his?) ability only costs 4 mana to activate, while giving 5 and a pseudo-cascade.

Ritual effects could be good, as could untappers like vitalize. It's not necessarily for me, but I tremble at the thought of the nasty things people could do with this thing.

Hmm.. I would suggest adding an Companion (except Zidra) as bonus challenge. But the companions itself are in conflict with Codie, since you can't them while it's out.

I'm also very exited on the thougt what nasty things could be done with this, especially since the format usually preferes reusable options which means permanents (there are some exceptions like Capsize but only a few of them). That's also the reason why I came up with the idea of a challenge.

Well, for creatures you can take a look at common topor orb lists. Interesting for research would be everything that's non-creature. This scryfall search should show you all fitting cards:
https://scryfall.com/search?as=grid&order=name&q=%28oracle%3Aenters+oracle%3Athe+oracle%3Abattlefield%29+-type%3Acreature+legal%3Amodern

of course there are many irelevant hits in the query, since you are looking primary for negative effects, but searching especially for them could be a little more difficult. The first thing comming into mind for me as I was reading this was Dark Depths, but its sadly banned in modern.

/edit: combined with the ramp, Colossification could be interesting. Enchant any creature with it and let it overrun the enemy without the turn delay.

Mhh.. I'm not really sure about the powerlevel. no permanents is a hard condition which excludes you from alot of stuff. But on the other hand, it could be really interesting to play with.

What will definitely be powerful is deck manipulation. Something like Brainstorm should really come in handy in order to place the next spell that will be casted for free. Besides that, in some cases you can put some cards from your hand or top of the library on the bottom of it, but that depends much on the spell you will cast with codie's ability.

Besides that, you will definitely need some cards that generates tokens in order to get hands on some blockers. Beatdown isn't the best strategy for edh because of the massive lifepools, but sitting there without blockers basicly invites the table to do this.

/edit: already got an first idea: A doomsday stack with any extra turn with cmc <7 and approach of the second sun. Rough gameplan: get rid of the first 3 remaining cards within the library, cast approach with you commander, cast the extraturn for free. since the approach is the only remaining card in your library you can draw and cast at your extra  turn you can play it again and win.
This feels a little janky, at least until now,  and we also have 3 open slots for the stack, but I think that's already something worth to work out.

Commander Discussion / Idea for a new Deckbuilding Challenge
« on: March 30, 2021, 10:45:33 am »
Hey,

I have seen this spoiler today:

After my first thought, that it would be funny to add it to a Zidra deck, I started thinking about it. Wouldn't it be an interesting challenge, to build an EDH deck around it without any card that you aren't allowed to play while its out?
That would basicly limit the available card types to lands, instants and sorceries. Because its color identity is 5 color, there should still be more than enough room for creativity.

General Magic / Re: Strixhaven - How is it so far?
« on: March 26, 2021, 04:38:44 pm »
My personal Highlights until now (according to what is online on scryfall) are Kasmina, Enigma Sage and Valentin, Dean of the Vein // Lisette, Dean of the Root. Kasmina should be a bomb for any superfriends deck she is fitting in and Valentin seems to be a very efficient Gravehate that can be put into the command zone.
