Commander Deck Reviews / Re: Mirko vosk - Making Him Better

I am removing the reanimation package. It was too at odds with my form of gravehate. So I'm adding more card draw and general support.
Also, Burnished Hart was too slow, so I replaced it with a mana rock that will also draw me cards.

Commander Deck Reviews / Mirko vosk - Making Him Better
« on: November 20, 2023, 11:15:17 pm »
Hey guys, I am currently struggling to power up my [[Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker]] deck. Back in August I made a massive rework to the deck and improved it, but it still feels like it's falling short. I've tried to make it so the deck is well-tuned and balanced. However, I still find that it is too slow and folds if I can't get Mirko Vosk out/keep him alive.

The goal of the deck is to mill opponents out Mirko Vosk's ability. I'm running ways to clone him as well as double his attack trigger to help achieve this.

I'm running 36 lands, 10 mana accelerants, 15 removal spells, 5 counters, & 10 sources of draw. So think that my numbers should be pretty solid. Is it because of the cards themselves?

I would really love some help tuning the deck more and raising up its power level. Any advice that isn't "you should change your commander" or a random two-card infinite would be appreciated.

And to those that run or have run Mirko Vosk as a commander in the past, what is your advice/experience with him?

Oh wow! That’s a super important non-Bo that you’ve caught there!!! Thanks for pointing that out.

Glad that you liked the list. It’s definitely one of my favorites that I’ve built. It’s very fun to get the engine going, even if it doesn’t win often.

Im back with another Primer!

Today I want to show off my Esper forced card draw deck. The goal of this deck is to everyone a massive amount of cards, then punish them for having large hands!

Similar to the old "Owling Mine" archetype (2006 Pro Tour), but this is less control/counterspell tribal and more midrange/engine building.

I’d love to hear what you guys think of the deck! And I’ll be back with another primer in a few weeks.

Ooh the vigor suggestion is nice. I’ll look and see where I can fit that in!

Hey, ya'll!

I have written a primer for my personal favorite deck Zimone Mill. I am looking to fill out the FAQ for the primer, as well as share it for others to see.

I'd love to see what people think of the deck and get your thoughts or opinions.

New Primers / Re: Simic Mill - Zimone, Quandrix Prodigy Primer

Based on Advice I got on my last primer, I have added a Why am I not playing "*X"? section with these cards addressed:

**Amulet of Vigor**: I am choosing to run Tiller Engine over this. Because it's the budget option. I mention it in the **Upgrades & Budget Options** section as a card to add to the deck if you want to up the power level.

**Rampaging Baloths**: I have considered running this card, but I chose to go with Zendikar's Roil instead. Due to the fact that it's 1 mana cheaper and it's an enchantment. Thus making it harder to remove.

**Tatyova, Benthic Druid**: She is very powerful... And well-known. Thus drawing more hate than the deck wants to deal with. Also, she pushed the deck into becoming more landfall-focused rather than mill.

**Gretchen Titchwillow**: The deck is already mana-hungry as it is. I found through playtesting that I would never really use her ability because of its steep cost. There were always other things that I'd rather be spending my 4 mana on.

**Eternal Witness**: This one hurts not to play. I love this card and its versatility. Instead of relying on trying to get things back from the grave, I have tried to build the deck to be redundant and resilient. So even if something gets blown up, you can replace it with something similar.

**Omen Hawker, Delighted Halfling, or Tireless Provisioner**: I have chosen to reduce the number of tap creatures in the deck. I want my ramp to come through lands.

Alright! I updated the primer with a "Why am I not playing X?" section.

I replaced Shatterstorm with Chaos Warp

I have also added the other relevant questions to the FAQ section.

Thank you for all your work ;D Morganator 2.0!

Good questions!

Quote
Are there any other ways to buff Baeloth other than the vows? Is he any good if his power is only 2?
1. Unfortunately no, there isn't any way to buff him outside of the vows.
2. Yes, he is still effective at what he does with only 2 power. All of the tokens *(with the exception of Rite of the Raging Storm)* that we are creating and giving away to our opponents are 1/1. So he is able to goad them all the same.

How often does Kardor get removed? Do you have to often re-cast him with Netherborn Altar?
1. Often enough that I felt that he needed a way to have his cost reduced. Not only will he sometimes get targeted by opponents, but he is also our prime sacrifice target of the cards: Nasty End, Bone Splinters, and Bone Shards. I don't have hard numbers to give you, unfortunately.
2. Netherborn Altar is a newer addition to the deck, so I have had only 1 opportunity to use it so far, but it stopped me from having to pay 8 to recast Kardur.

Besides Feed the Swarm, what else can you do against enchantment-based decks? Do you just have to accept that it's a bad matchup? What tech pieces can you include in a meta with lots of enchantment decks?
Unfortunately, it is just a bad match-up. I do my best to play around them. You did bring up a good point with the card Chaos Warp. I don't have a reason not to pay it and it would be another way to deal with enchantments. I think that I didn't have one when I first built the deck and then just forgot to put it into the deck. So I will be adding it to the deck replacing Shatter Storm.

Now to answer your questions about individual cards:

Agitator Ant: This used to be in the deck! I had two problems with it. It was too slow and I couldn't control what got goaded. Sure, the synergy with Baeloth was nice, but it wasn't enough in my opinion to keep it in the deck.

Bedevil: While this is a staple of Rakdos removal. I chose to play removal cards that wanted me to sacrifice a creature as part of the casting cost. This way, I could sacrifice Kardur and cast him again.

Curse of Opulence: This deck used to run curses as well. I found that they often underwhelming in the value that they generated. Curse of Opulence is the one that you could argue including. Maybe as a replacement for Fire Diamond. I also just personally don't own the card.

Geode Rager, Parasitic Impetus, & Ghoulish Impetus: The deck has arguably too many ways to goad the. They are just the ones that didn't make the cut. Geode Rager just came down too late, it's a good ability but I didn't need another force attacks at that CMC. The Vow and impetus aren't included because I only have enough for all of them so I chose the ones that gave me the most value.

Karazikar, the Eye Tyrant: When I was brewing the deck I was stuck between him and Baeloth. I chose Baeloth over Karazikar because I valued the mana gained from treasure over the carddraw. Also, Baeloth's goad ability is easier to trigger.

Slaughter Specialist: I did now know about this card. This is pretty cool. I think that my argument for not running it is I want repeatable forms of token generation rather than a one-off. I get more triggers with Conjurer's Closet or Orthion, Hero of Lavabrink, but I don't think that it's enough to justify its inclusion.

Should I add a section for "cards I'm not playing" and add this info in there?

Hello Again!

I had a lot of fun writing my last primer on Kardur, Doomscourge. So I decided to write one for my main deck.

This deck is my personal favorite and I'd love to share it with ya'll. I would appreciate any and all CC. Thank you for your time! ;D

Primers / Hit him! Not me! - Kardur, Doomscourge Primer
« on: September 18, 2023, 01:22:00 pm »
Hello! Since I saw that my Kardur, Doomscourge currently has the most likes for decks piloted by Kardur, I thought that I should write a primer for it. That way people know my decisions behind the deck's choices. While I tend to write descriptions for my decks, this is my first time writing a primer. I would appreciate any and all CC. Thank you for your time! ;D

Yo, this is a really cool brew!

I love the theme of casting the overcosted "gain control target creature" aura spells! That is such a neat take on this commander!

Thanks for the reply, It's my first attempt at a Raktos aristocrats deck. I'll make some changes right away!

I am struggling to make the final cuts to my Rakdos Aristocrats Oathbreaker deck. I need to cut out 7 cards but I'm not sure which ones to drop.
