Emrakul, the Aeons Torn. You don't need to intend to play it. Just if he gets milled, he'll send your graveyard back to your library.

Deck Reviews / [Modern] Budget Aria of Flame Burn Deck for a Friend
« on: November 20, 2019, 04:43:53 pm »
[deck="Search and Burn"]
//Main
4 Aria of Flame
4 Comet Storm
4 Condescend
4 Electrolyze
4 Evolving Wilds
4 Fling
4 Goblin Electromancer
8 Island
4 Izzet Guildgate
4 Lava Coil
8 Mountain
4 Pteramander
4 Steady Progress

//Maybeboard
4 Chandra's Phoenix
[/deck]

The idea is to quickly get Aria of Flame out with blue card draw and then burn with red. There is a little bit of counter magic. Goblin Electromancer should help keep costs down to cast more spells and add Verse counters per turn. I'm going back and forth between Pteramander and Chandra's Phoenix.

I know there are more powerful cards out there, but I'm trying to keep this deck below $30.00 for a friend's budget.

I’m pumped to see if that Hudra’s Growth has a place in my red/green proliferate deck!

My initial plan was to sacrifice either Vastwood Hydra or Hooded Hydra with Severed Strands to keep the opponents field clear, but it has been more cumbersome than I originally anticipated. The idea was to sacrifice Hooded Hydra, get those snakes out, sacrifice Vastwood Hydra, +1/+1 all those snakes and then proliferate a greater number of creatures. It hasn't been working out that way, though.

Thanks for the feedback.

Deck: Hydra Proliferate

I had my weekly lunchtime Magic session today with a coworker and got my butt handed to me playing this Hydra Proliferate Deck( https://deckstats.net/decks/113933/1423773-hydra-proliferate/en). I think the problem is lack of mana ramp because I couldn't get big Hydras out quickly enough before he swooped in with giant dragons to murder me.

Suggestions?

I like to find cards that perform the functions you already like about your deck but do it more efficiently. I like to go to gatherer (a wizards online card database) and search for the rule Tex i’m Looking for and then sort by converted mana cost (low to high). Then I ask “is there a card that does the same thing as what I have, but for less mana?” “Is there one that also has an additional effect for the same amount of mana?”

I’d say looking for individual cards on websites like cardkingdom and tcgplayer can be very beneficial without becoming a rabbit hole. A lot of cards you would need can be found for $.25 - $.99 each. There are some super expensive cards, but in most cases you can find a less expensive alternative that is ever so slightly less efficient on the battlefield.

Serra Ascendant is worth considering for a cheap 1 drop 6/6; Suture Priest might be worth considering to replace Auriok

Rhox Faithmender is also good. He stacks lifegain so 1= 2x; 2=4x; 3=8x; 4=16x.Felidar Sovereign gives you a 40 life milestone win con as well. Just food for thought if you'd rather defend and shoot for 40 life.

I started a deck like this. I ended up focusing on Martyr of Sands and Serra Ascendant, though. See if you get any ideas here: Ajani Ascendant

What is the goal of Maban, Dean of Iteration? I don't see any beneficial permanent abilities triggering twice here.
