Commander Deck Reviews / Brawl to Commander

Hello everyone, I bought a constructed Brawl deck from a card store lady year with Niv-Mizzet, Parun as it's commander. It was a fun deck and I could win with it on occasion.

Over the past year I've updated it to help keep up with my friend's decks, but now that Niv has rotated out of Standard, he's no longer Brawl legal. So I wanted to convert him to Commander but I don't know exactly how as I've only been playing magic for less than two years. I was hoping some of you would be able to help me.

I've centered the deck around copying instants and Sorceries and drawing cards as much as possible, with Niv being my main damage dealer. Thassa's Oracle as an alternate win condition. I'm pretty sure I need more protection for Niv as he's targeted a lot. Also I'm aware the triomes are illegal with my color identity, I'll be removing them.

So I'm curious as to what everyone thinks of this. My friends and I love playing Brawl, however my most of the cards in my main Brawl deck (including my commander) will be rotated out of Standard next month. So we've decided that when they rotate out, we're going to play "Pioneer Brawl" that way our decks don't become obsolete or have to update them so they stay in Standard. My main Brawl deck's commander doesn't seem to have a Standard equivalent, so I would have to make an entirely new deck to be in Standard and I just don't have a lot of Standard cards. I know Brawl isn't super popular, but what's everyone's thoughts on this?

Another thought I had was to make a version of Brawl where the sets that were Standard legal when Brawl was released would be the cutoff for legality for the format, so GRN/RNA to future sets would be this version of Brawl.

I also built a new "Pioneer Brawl" deck and want to see if it works.

Gargos, Vicious Watcher

I made this just with the cards I currently own and plan on upgrading it so that it's a decent deck. Adding more Hydras is probably the first thing I'll do. The idea is to ramp Forests as quickly as possible so I can keep playing Gargos as he's killed, then target my creatures with spells to trigger him to fight. I know there's a lot of better cards to use, this is just my first rough draft with what I own that's not already being used in one of my decks. What does everyone think?

I wouldn't say I'm "at that level" lol, three of the other people I play against have been playing for years and have broken decks. I just was taking advantage of the others strong players targeting other strong players and strategized my way to victory. Had I gone one-on-one with any of them I'm quite confidant that there would be nothing I could do.

I really appreciate your suggestions, the last deck I posted got no replies so to actually hear from someone is really nice.

Blanchwood Armor - cmc 3 for +1/+1 per forest, but you play only 9 forests out of 23 lands, doesn't seem like a good deal. there are some better auras around for that slot, Armadillo Cloak would be an example.

That sounds like a good trade-off, I'll look into that.

I was able to get him on to the field once, and buffed him up with enchantments and a couple counters, but was quickly disposed of from an instant. Will definitely have to look into better options.

Deck Reviews / Built a White/Green deck, not sure if it's viable

I built this the other night to play against my friends. I played two games with it (first against 3 other people, second against 4 other people). First game went terribly, but I won the second game. Is there a way I can make it better? I have a limited collection at the moment but I'm not opposed to buying cards from my local store or the internet to make this better. What does everyone think?

Hello everyone! I just recently got into Magic and built my first deck. It's intended to be a Blue/Black Surveil/Scry deck. I'm very new at this, so I'm not sure how well this works and if it's even a good strategy. I played it a couple times, but it was against 4 other people at the same time, so I didn't get to utilize much of the deck. Please tell me how I can do better!
