Deck Reviews / [Modern] Unimprisoned in the Moon
« on: February 23, 2018, 07:11:40 pm »
Let me know what you all think. I may drop one land for another Serum Visions.

Unimprisoned in the Moon

Deck built around Tamiyo, Field Researcher Emblem.

Turn 1 - Birds of Paradise or Noble Hierarch
Turn 2 - Oath of Gideon
Turn 3 - Tamiyo, Field Researcher ; enters with 5 Loyalty, +1 for 6
Turn 4 - +1 for 7 loyalty, protect with 2 tokens from Oath of Gideon and mana dork
Turn 5 - Use -7 ability and cast Coax from the Blind Eternities to likely get Emrakul, the Aeons Torn from sideboard.

Glittering Wish can get you another Tamiyo from sideboard or Progenitus if you've already used the emblem. It can also fetch a couple of charms for removal or a Orzhov Charm if you want to recast Emrakul

Deck: BANT Miracles

//Lands
2 Breeding Pool
3 Celestial Colonnade
4 Flooded Strand
2 Forest
2 Glacial Fortress
2 Hallowed Fountain
1 Island
4 Misty Rainforest
2 Plains
2 Sunpetal Grove

//Spells
3 Baffling End
3 Entreat the Angels
4 Jace, the Mind Sculptor
3 Nissa, Steward of Elements
3 Opt
4 Path to Exile
1 Search for Azcanta
4 Serum Visions
4 Telling Time

//Creatures
4 Birds of Paradise
3 Noble Hierarch

//Sideboard
3 Detention Sphere
2 Ethersworn Canonist
2 Kataki, War's Wage
3 Meddling Mage
2 Remand
3 Terminus

I'll try to post a different take on Miracles I mostly added green for the 1 drop dorks to speed things up and for Nissa, Steward of Elements to start going deeper in the deck a little sooner and faster (happy valentines day). Also, the Scry 2 may help set up an Entreat the Angels. I included a few Baffling End to spice things up a bit, because the card seems super good to me (Detention Sphere still sideboarded for non-creature matchups). Kataki, War's Sage and Meddling Mage have been added to the sideboard to help with the possible spike of Lantern Control.

**you can look here for a more typical Miracle deck, but this is almost an exact copy of the Riverwise Augur deck with the merfolk swapped for Jace, the Mind Sculptor https://deckstats.net/decks/24402/916588-u-w-mind-sculptor-miracles/en**

I like the sections; I may do something similar. Might try to include Combo E in mine. I had combo F but couldn't get a Wound Reflection. I had Sword-point Diplomacy in my original maybeboard, but the "any opponent" part killed it, they can all just agree to pay 3 life and it's sorcery so you're almost out of a turn. Whats your typical first search?

I can't wait for the next block, while I'm not into Commander to much, I'll throw some ideas your way for building.

I've been working on some standard deck ideas using Skyship plunderer. It's ability is so fun. While it obviously seems strong with planeswalkers (I've tried to do a deck that was able to emblem Tamiyo on turn 5), I have been trying to pair it with As Foretold and Oracle's Vault to see if I can get those cards popping off with paradox engine or something.

Deckstats Feedback / Annotations for Standard, Modern, ect.

I have a lot of old decks. Most of which are labeled as Standard. I love searching through Standard decks. A lot of them are not standard (anymore).

Any chance we can get an * or something next to the decks that contain cards not playable in standard? Maybe an option to exclude decks that contain said cards?

Just a suggestion, not sure if it goes here.

Deck Reviews / Kaledesh Brews

Here are a couple of brews for Kaladesh. Both are pretty centric to cards in Kaladesh which is a pretty big reason I'm posting them.

The first one is built around Dubious Challenge. The idea is to cast Dubious Challenge and get back the creature of you opponents choice by either Long Road Home or Eldrazi Displacer.

deck="Dubious Evolution"
//Lands
4 Canopy Vista
6 Forest
4 Fortified Village
1 Geier Reach Sanitarium
7 Plains
3 Westvale Abbey

//Spells
4 Eldritch Evolution
2 Gideon, Ally of Zendikar
4 Long Road Home
2 Nissa, Voice of Zendikar
3 Stasis Snare

//Creatures
2 Angel of Invention
3 Bruna, the Fading Light
4 Eldrazi Displacer
4 Gisela, the Broken Blade
3 Verdurous Gearhulk

//Other
4 Dubious Challenge

//Sideboard
SB: 4 Declaration in Stone
SB: 4 Sylvan Advocate
SB: 4 Oath of Nissa
SB: 1 Gideon, Ally of Zendikar
SB: 1 Nissa, Voice of Zendikar
SB: 1 Cataclysmic Gearhulk

The next deck is an Aetherworks Marvel deck. It's built to all in on free spells. On a starting note before I explain more: playtesting this has been RIDICULOUSLY consistent. The only problem being that it's all in on your side of the board. You can probably sideboard a few burn spells if aggro get too out of hand, but a 3/2 on turn 2 and a 2/3 flying trample on turn 3 hits pretty good. The lifegain and scy 2 from the puzzleknots usually put you in a good spot if you don't get any solid 2 drops. Running the G/R Gearhulk give you a ton of power, and casting one with Rashmi on the board really swings the game in your favor. You can put the counters on your voyager as well giving you a flying siege rhino. Running a lot of high mana cards allows for your red Gearhulk to really hurt, as well. When making this deck it seemed very janky, but after messing with it, and I can't stress this enough, it is very consistent in hitting what it needs to to keep up the tempo.

deck="Aetherworks Marvel All-in"
//Lands
4 Aether Hub
4 Botanical Sanctum
4 Cinder Glade
7 Forest
1 Mountain
4 Spirebluff Canal

//Spells
3 Aetherworks Marvel
3 Attune with Aether
4 Eldritch Evolution
2 Glassblower's Puzzleknot
3 Woodweaver's Puzzleknot

//Creatures
1 Aethersquall Ancient
3 Aethertorch Renegade
3 Combustible Gearhulk
4 Empyreal Voyager
3 Rashmi, Eternities Crafter
3 Verdurous Gearhulk
4 Voltaic Brawler

Anyway, let me know what you think. The sideboards could use some work, and the G/W land seems to be the biggest problem with the Dubious Challenge deck. I may cut the Nissa as the 2 green seems too much to get consistently on turn 3 when every turn after that it's just not worth playing. It's really strong to play on turn three if you can bounce an Angel of Invention to use Fabricate and be able to flip your Westvale Abbey.

I'm pretty much a standard junky and usually follow the rotations, but since a lot of my favorite cards just recently rotated I've decided to make a modern deck. It's a 5 color walker deck that I think fits well with the title "Oath of Narset" and you'll see why if you check it out.

http://deck.tk/6GPH0MD3

Anything that requires a lot of interaction is fun. I really enjoy Managorger Hydra, for instance. If I had to pick a favorite card, it would be Narset, Enlightened Master followed closely by Villainous Wealth. Both of those cards are incredibly fun to resolve and add so much excitement to the board.

Sweet Brews! I really like the Tamiyo build and the Emerge build. Very unique ways of building around certain cards to just win out of nowhere. Coax has been my favorite answer to how to use Tamiyo thus far, especially because you can put cheap Eldrazi in the sideboard too in case you don't draw into a Tamiyo. Gives you options which is really what the card is all about.

The emerge deck is sweet and I'm positive at least one version of it will be be able to give CoCo decks and G/W humans decks a run for their money. Coupling Emerge to Eldritch Evolution is a very clever idea, as it lets you cheap out the real big threats more easily.

I have a buddy who's been brewing with emerge, and right now he's doing a Blue/Red emerge deck with Elder Deep-Fiend and Kozilek's Return. The Return is a huge swing that pretty much kills anything a CoCo deck would be playing. He uses Jace, Vryn's Prodigy to discard the Return, and emerges the Deep-Fiend out of Pilgrims eye. It seems good so far, but Elder Deep-Fiend is the biggest threat, and when it dies, he tends to run out of steam. There may be a way to combine your build and his and do something like a Red/Green build that uses the green Emerge guys, Eldritch Evolution, and Kozilek's Return.

I was going to go U/B because Distended mindbender and Elder deep-fiend are so strong by themselves. I thought to myself what would happen if they removed my creatures? and thats when I added the Rise from the Grave, which isn't getting a lot of the hype it deserved, once I added that, I added my Jace, Vryn's Prodigy as a discard outlet and thought since I have the discard outlet I might as well add some huge eldrazi like Ulamog, Ceaseless Hunger and Emrakul to the deck, that's when I started looking at CMC for the ermerge creatures and it sparked an interest in Elritch Evolution. Once I added green it made it an easy home for Reality Smasher with the 8 Llanowar Wastes / Yavimiya Coast and Grim Flayer Suddenly looked strong and I added him for more graveyard fuel and hand fixing. Everything works so well together that nearly any starting hand is going to have exactly what you need and you have so many easy routes towards your win condition. It jsut overall is extremely efficient and consistent.The one I was looking to take out was Decimator of the Provinces as it's the only one that doesn't fit the curve and would be easy to fill with another Elder Deep-fiend or maybe even a Dragonlord Silumgar or Sire of Stagnation to really throw off someones board state or Altered Ego to double up on an emerge creature. I have a few Kiora's laying around that I will probably put in if I need fillers.

Here's my take on a Mill deck, I'm a standard junky so it's just that. The idea is to draw cards from The Gitrog Monster while you have Sphinx's Tutelage in play. I put in a bunch of Grounds keepers to keep The Gitrog Monster upkeep requirement in check. I have it set up a little different on my MTGO deck, but that's the gist of it. I have more ramp for the other threats to make it more viable.

This is a little closer, but still slightly different.

So here are my Eldritch Moon brews. My only disclaimer is that you won't find any alterations of G/W Tokens or CoCo variations here (which I hope makes you happy).

The first deck I will list is just fun and possibly full of free spells. It revolves around getting the new Tamiyo, Field Researcher to -7 on turn 6 by using Oath of Gideon and a bunch of 2 drops to protect it. Once you get to turn 6 you should use the Ultimate and cast Coax from the Blind Eternities and search your sideboard for one of the three eldrazi's that would best suit your matchup. And don't forget you can cast it for free.

- That Ultimate, Though
http://deck.tk/87f19IHi

The next deck is the one I want to build the most. Brisela, Voice of Nightmares looks like she will break anything in standard if she Melds. So to get to the later game I put them in a W/B control shell and removed the board wipes that would decimate my goal of melding Gisela, the Broken Blade and Bruna, the Fading Light. I replaced the cards like Languish with creatures that tax the enemy really hard like Archangel of Tithes and the new Thalia, Heretic Cathar. Honestly, Gisela, the Broken (wtf she's so strong) is literally just that all by herself. I have a feeling we'll be seeing a Lightning Bolt reprint soon.

- Angels
http://deck.tk/5wBq5kDy

The next deck I brewed literally because all the hype around white cards. Black cards have a lot of synergy right now in my opinion and the Zombies in standard right now can fend for themselves in a lot of match ups. The main combo for this deck was turn 2 Stormkirk Condemned into turn 3 Voldaren Pariah with madness into a bunch of Relentless Dead to flip Voldaren Pariah and even bring back a couple Relentless Dead using their abilities. I added a little green and blue because Grim Flayer worked really well with Gisa and Geralf as well as Diregraf Colossus.

- Zombies
http://deck.tk/4oSG6a0I

The last deck I think is the most broken of all. It's an Emerge deck with Eldritch Evolution. The idea is to get a Turn 3 Matter Reshaper into a turn 4 Emerge card into a turn 5 Eldritch Evolution. You can get an Ulamog, Ceasless Hunger pretty consistently, albeit not cast, he's a little hard to deal with on turn 5. The next big thing I believe is a little broken is that Rise from the Grave is being reprinted. The value of all the cards played, whether it be Matter Reshaper being sacrificed for Emerge and, at least, drawing another card, hitting the effects of a Distended Mindbender, and Evolving it into a 10/10 that mills 20 cards when it attacks is pretty ridiculous.

- Emerge Evolve

Anyway, let me know what you think. I love brewing and my next brew will be a counters deck, mostly because I have a soft spot for Managorger Hydra;D

I'm mostly worried about taking up the 3 drop place where Oath of Gideon is so important to the deck as it provides the extra loyalty and chump blockers to more ensure the Tamiyo ultimate. I might keep in the secure the wastes and replace the Eldrazi Displacer with maybe some kytheon or maybe the new Ulvenwald Captive.

-edit- the new Spell Queller looks like it could be huge. It costs 3 mana but would act as a counter spell and a blocker if needed.

Looking for tips for removal for this deck. I might replace Secure the wastes, but it's a little hard to take away from the all in factor that is Tamiyo, Field Researcher. Being able to protect the walker is huge to the success of the deck. It's pretty solid with Oath of Gideon ETB effects, but not sure if secure the wastes gets much value here. Another card i'd look into replacing for a better 1 or 2 drop is Eldrazi Displacer. Was thinking maybe some Kytheon or the like.

The idea is to turn 3 Oath of Gideon, Turn 4 Tamiyo, Field Researcher, Turn 5 protect Tamiyo, Turn 6 ultimate.
