General Magic / Re: Looking for a New Commander
« on: January 02, 2020, 07:52:02 am »
SO you search for a Commander with the following conditions:
1. Non green.
2. Creature based.
3. Non Tribal.
4. Budget with a cheap Commander.
5. Can deal with enchantment based decks.
6. You want to play a strong deck (i assume that, because you expressed several times the fear, that certain commanders would be too weak for
    your group)

Those conditions partially contradict each other. There are only two colors, which can deal with enchantment decks: green and white. Thus you need white in the colors of your commander you search (because of 1.).

In general there are two strong colors, which heavily outweigh the other three: green and blue. Moreover, green is the strongest color for creature based decks (because you also get your ramp in form of creatures and lots of win cons conceirning creatures (e.g. various Overruns). If you neither play green and blue, but want to have a strong deck, you need to play combo.

Assuming you dont want to play Combo (you didnt put the combo in your Grenzo list [Kiki-Jiki + Zealous Conscript]) i would recommand playing Esper colors. Since you dont want tribal, Alela, Artful Provocateur would be the closest to all those points. You can just build her around flying creatures, which exists enough in blue, white and black. Aim for 32 lands and 15 ramp artifacts, Skullclamp, tutors for Skullclamp and play your removal on enchantments (e.g. Aura of Silence), this way you can focus on building your main strategy around flying creatures, while still using her trigger ability.

[de] Deck-Bewertungen / Re: [Modern] blood funnel Mentor
« on: November 16, 2017, 12:36:59 pm »
I like the idea, but there are some core problems:
Without Blood Funnel, the deck can't compete with other modern tier decks (because the spells cost too much, and mentor itself is to slow).
Since you are slower and are relying on certain cards, blue is a must have color (better card selection and counterspells to slow opponents down.
Elspeth is a better finisher than Sorin.
Supreme Verdict synergized nicely with BLood Funnel and is a very good card atm.
So probably you have to go 5 color, with a Bring to Light Suite.

Removed Sky Key, since it seemed to gimmicky and it costs 3 mana. The idea is to control the games with the different bombs, and to win via Disciple of the Vault. Alternatively I added 2 Girspur Aether Grid as an alternative Win con, since Disciple of the Vault is easily removed.

ah sry didn't see xavdak only cited ;)

Of course it works. Xavdak is the idiot here. You can also look on the new eldrazi scions tokens, they have the colorless mana symbol on them. Btw generic mana is never produced, its only in they casting cost and represents any kind of mana. It just had the same symbol as colorless mana in the past.

Deck Reviews / Re: Colorless Tron need help deciding what to run.

I think 4 Eye of Ugin are fine + 4 Eldrazi Temple, since basically this is Eldrazi Tron.
However I am not sure you want much else than 4 Ulamogs. Void Winnower is maybe fine as a 1 of. I would play at max 1 Kozzilek, the Great Distortion (i really don't like him, except for his card draw). I would consider a playset Conduin of Ruin and playsets of chromatic sphere and star together with 4 Ancient Stirrings.

Basically something like this:

To battle the weakness of this deck, I moved 2 Spellskite in the main deck to protect the Disciple of the Vault. Inget Chewer are in the Sideboard to battle Chalice of the Void. Whispmare could be replaced by another 1 mana disenchant, which is in the sideboard to battle Stony Silence.
"Destroy all artifact" effects are not that good against this deck, since they still trigger the vault, if he is on the field, and are for themselves redundant.

Ah, the idea floated around for along while, there are some heavy counters in modern like chalice on 1 ;). But i like the deck, since you also can use the spell bombs for their actual effect in certain situations, rather than just draw cards.

There is an equipment in the new set for 2 mana, which does the same as your 5 mana artifact. If you replace that your deck is even standard legal. While it is far from being able to compete with any competitive modern deck, it could have more success in standard
