I would agree with EMaxxi. Darksteel Forge seems to be the most useful blanket answer as you're almost assuredly playing an artifact deck to run this. I also agree that Blightsteel is a little overrated. If you don't have a way to give it haste and a way to hit multiple opponents with it in the same turn it's just asking to be bounced or exiled.

For the cost of the spell you mentioned I could Pongify a creature, save two mana, and the creature be gone for good barring recursion instead of doing something cutsie that if a piece is important enough the player will find a way to unstun it.

I was playing around with it because of the human clause. Just thought it was funny in the deck. Debating swapping it with Path.

General Magic / Re: Cards you refuse to use

The mere existence of these cards is not bad for the long-term health of the game.  What is bad for the game is that WotC insists on only putting such cards into premium priced booster packs, and never into $4 packs that all the players can afford.

This is the issue I have with them.

I would not be surprised if 99% of Magic players forget Seiges even exist five years from now.

To be honest, I forgot they existed until you bumped this thread. I lost interest in even the ones I thought I would playtest once I saw one in action. No one in my playgroup runs them anymore. Several tested them out and found them disappointed.

Mine are my OG duals. I've had them since I opened them (though I have sold some I still have a playset of each) and could never see trading them. Oh, and my Gaea's Cradle.

General Magic / Re: Flying vs Ttrample

Interesting question. I prefer flying in most of my decks. I think I really only focus on trample in one of my decks (Skullbriar) and that's just because of the focus of the deck. Sidisi has both trample and flying but I tend to focus more on the flying. It's generally an easy way to get in or makes a world of difference on defense.

Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. I didn’t agree with many opinions he had on the game but I never heard anyone say anything but good things about him as a person and let’s be real, that’s more important.

Commander Discussion / Re: Best Card In Your Deck
« on: September 06, 2023, 12:05:29 am »
I just introduced a MTG club to my students afterschool this week.  I was showing them one of my first EDH decks, with Teysa, Orzhov Scion as the commander, just to explain the basic concepts.  They had the same question, "what's your best card?"  I pulled out Darkest Hour, which, with my commander, makes any sac outlet infinite.  I explained that it was probably the best card to draw while playing the deck, then went on to explain that it would easily be the absolutely worst card in every single other deck I own if I were to add it.  It was a great teaching moment as they started to see that Magic isn't always about just having a pile of the best cards, it's about having cards that support each other and work together.  What a great lesson for a bunch of beginners to learn right off the bat.

I think that's a very neat lesson for them to learn early on. Awesome!

General Magic / Re: Combo in Limited?

It doesn't happen much at pre-releases because the standard sets are balanced to not contain any (intentional) combos. It happens more now with the inclusions of these Enchanted Tales type cards included in them.

The thing that comes to mind most is a player at the shop I played in before I moved to where I am now. We had this guy that was notoriously a bad sport to the point that the owner ended up having to tell him not to come back because he was costing the shop other players. We were playing a FNM. We both were 5-0 at the end and he insisted we play it out instead of splitting the prize (at this time, the prizes were simply a promo card and $10 store credit). Anyway, we were both running Exalted decks (tells you how long ago that was). His was a very expensive deck that included Archangel of Thune (it was just released). Mine was a budget version I threw together that day after work out of cards laying around the house because I hadn't obtained the cards I really wanted for my deck. I beat him in the first game no problem. Second game we're both low on life but I put out a Vampire Nighthawk and he just can't swing with enough to kill me (clearly I would block the biggest creature with Nighthawk and with lifelink gain just enough life to survive his attack from his other creature). Next turn I put out another Vampire Nighthawk and attack with the first one, Exalted triggers it hits for 5 taking him down to 2. He draws his card and starts cussing about how his was the much better deck and the only reason he lost was he just didn't draw the right cards. He was a better player and it was only the draws that determined the game, still cussing. The owner comes over and tells him he needs to tone down the language. The guy picked up his cards and said "F this place, I'm out of here and never coming back". Two days later he was back with the same attitude but a little calmer as the owner told him he was on thin ice with his behavior.
