I agree that the deck has an overabundance of rocks and I normally only include Chromatic Lantern in 3+ color decks.
However the deck really doesn't work without Niv online as soon as possible and since he's costed at UUURRR I feel having the extra rocks and the perfect fixing of the Lantern helps to make sure I hit him on time and consistently.
The same is pretty much true for for land tutors. I've had a few too many games where I have more Islands than mountains and vice-a-versa so I like having the backup fixing. It may be unnecessary but it feels more consistent.
Probably gonna cut the memorial and the deserts though. Dunno if I'm comfortable going as low as 33 lands, I like 36-37 in a two color deck, especially one with as color intensive of a commander as this one. But those three lands aren't as useful.
