Maybe this is a stupid question but can a companion card be used as your commander rather than a companion? to the same effect can I include a companion card as one of my 100 cards in EDH and consider it a normal creature and disregard the companion attribute?

General Magic / Re: Tribes you wish to see more support for

Considering I just finished building an Ayula Bear tribal deck, I really wish there were more options for bears.

I agree with Dwarves as well. It would be cool to see WotC do something more with Dwarven lore. I think it would be a good opportunity to explore a new plain and maybe do something to help amp up boros decks.

Homunculus would be cool to see as well.

Commander Deck Reviews / Re: Najeela Mana Base Help!

Thank you everyone for the help! I known that "5 color mana base" and "Cheap" don't really belong in the same sentence but all these suggestions have really helped me figure out where to focus my efforts. @WizardSpartan, I will find room for Farseek and Rampant Growth for sure. I am also going take the advice from @ApothecaryGeist  and focus my tapped land around those that can produce all 5 colors. Once I run some play testing I will be able to see how the deck plays and see how consistent the combo is. I will continue to make adjustments and upgrade the mana base over time as my budget allows. It will be a struggle because I love building new decks more than I love optimizing them lol. That mindset might be a little backward but I love having a lot of verity to choose from. I have only been playing EDH for about 3 years so I'm sure once I find the decks that I consistently love playing I will focus more on optimizing them and giving them the mana bases they deserve.

General Magic / Pauper Cube Building Help!
« am: Mai 04, 2020, 05:08:58 Nachmittag »
Hey All!

Over the years I have amassed a large amount of bulk in my collection (3k+ commons and uncommons or more to be honest). Since I have a problem with hording cards, I want to find a way to utilize them rather than just sell them. I have never built a cube before and am looking for some guidance. I haven't started doing much reading on it yet so if you know of any good articles or have some good do's and don't it would be very much appreciated.

I told my wife that I don't want to get rid of all the bulk cards because I have this idea in my head that one day, when our kids are old enough to play, they will be good cards to start them out with. As a kid I would have been over the moon if someone handed me several thousand cards and said, knock yourself out! If MTG is something that my kids end up taking an interest in, then we can look at building some proper decks with some proper cards. So in the mean time I think building some cubes would be a good way to utilize these cards.

Commander Deck Reviews / Re: Momir Vig, +1/+1 Counter Deck

A couple cards I could recommend are:

Hardened Scales, Chasm Skulker, Deepglow Skate, Bioshift, Tezzeret's Gambit, and Forgotten Ancient to name a few. One thing I noticed is the deck is lacking some removal and some big finishers. Pir and Toothy might be a good addition based on your commanders abilities. Pir gives every counter a +1 and Toothy will draw you a card for each +1+1 on him when he dies. You have a fair amount of sac outlets so it could work well. Also, I like running Nissa, Who Shakes the World in my Pir and Toothy Simic deck. She doubles your forests, and plays well with the +1+1 theme.

Overall you have some solid ramp and with some tweaking I think this deck could be really solid. There are a lot of tools at your disposal in Simic so maybe check out some other similar Simic decks and see how they are structured.

You could potentially combo with Gravecrawler and Phyrexian altar. Its a bit of a vulnerable combo but it could work. You can choose what to plug into the combo be it blood artist, stalking vengeance, hissing iguanar, or even put a thornbite staff on Tymaret.

Some Cards to consider:
Pitiless Plunderer for mana ramp, Blood Artist for ping damage and life gain, Gavony Unhallowed +1/+1 ramp, Warteye Witch to filter your library, Stalking Vengeance as a solid finisher, and Butcher of Malakir can act as a board wipe. Note that all these cards just say "Creature" and not "nontoken creature"

From under the floorboards and Army of the damned are good at putting a ton of sacrificial creatures on the board.

Commander Discussion / Re: EDH players- how many decks do you have?
« am: April 17, 2020, 12:36:46 Vormittag »
Between my wife and I we are running 7 decks but 2 are precons that I've put together an upgrade list for but haven't pulled the trigger yet. Our top decks are currently K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth, Arcades, the Strategist, and Pir, Imaginative Rascal // Toothy, Imaginary Friend.

My wife has a really fun Dino deck that she plays most often but it is a little on the slower side. However, if it is not kept in check it can get out of hand quickly.

My Pir and Toothy deck is the one I play most often and is the first EDH deck I built. I have gotten pretty good at piloting it. I don't think any of our decks are above a 6 or 7 on the power scale but for our play group that is right in the sweet spot. We just don't have the budget to fully optimize our decks and tend to have more fun building and playing a wide verity of decks rather than focus on going all out with 1 or 2 of them.

Since the power scale is a little subjective I have listed what our play group uses.

Power scale in my play group is as follows:
1-2= Jank, no real wincon, and gets shut down quick.
3-5= Precons and budget (we some of the 2017 & 2018 decks) Focused and effective but with room to improve.
6-7= Focused, good synergy, and modest budget ($350 max). These are what we bring to the LGS and can hang with some pretty solid decks.
8-9= Optimized, high synergy, big budget. Can normally go off on turn 5 or 6.
10= cEDH

Cutting black might free up colour fixing and I think that the deck doesn't really need it. With the exception of Sorin, everything in black can be done in Naya. Is it just for flavour or functionality?

This deck is meant to be more flavor than function. My commander needs black so maybe cutting it back to a bare minimum would be a good option.
