That last game was amazing to watch. For the first time that night, I finished early enough to watch closely. The back and forth against a really good control deck (I played against the control player round 1; i got a close win and Control had to Mulligan more than once, so I know
odds were on my side).
The interplay with your evasive
lifelink flyers feeds
adanto vanguard and arguels
blood fast to put pressure on; the flip on
blood fast gave even more life lategame when control drops their endgame. You playing an aggro / token strategy when your opponent has 2x
authority of the consuls on the battlefield, that was wild. I think if you had more instant speed reaction to the few threats a control deck presents, you would have had that 2-0; you had to give him 4 life a turn to reload for attack - or, at times chump blocking a
torrential gearhulk. As it was, card draw seemed like it hit what you needed.
That's not taking away from your opponent (let's call him Fred). As I said, Fred and I faced off round 1, and I got good draws and he didn't, so I got away easier than you did. Cool story: he was one of the awesome players who helped me at my 1st prerelease; let me ask questions during the game, offered gentle advice on making a deck from a sealed pool after our round, etc. Just the best kind of person to play with. I probably owe my first LGS win to listening to Fred's advice. It was his first time at the shop in awhile, he said, and everyone watching it thought it was dope; you gave him a great game even if it was a game 1 draw.
