Its always good to have lots of black mana and not have to tap down all your lands. I see the combo played a lot in my meta by decks that have more then one color or have very few basics. Its better then using cabal stronghold. Depending on the conditions yes cabal coffers could be a dead card in your hand, but same could be said for gaea's cradle when you don't have creatures and many people who have that card run it in multicolored decks.

You are correct that goblin bambardment would be great in this deck. I did not include it in the deck list because my goal is to keep the deck at $50 average. The average price for GB is about $6 to $7 dollors, and that is expensive for this deck.

I too have looked at trying to use Mystic in a blue tempo deck because red aggro is still a thing. the problem that I have found is that Mystic is too slow and cost to much for blocking. Also more decks are side boarding more sweeper cards like ritual of soot, goblin chainwhirler, and cleansing nova. The reason why, I feel, so many decks use mist-cloak herald and curious obsession combo is because of all card advantage that you get. It keeps you hand fresh and counter magic up. So, how do we counter this? I have found that side boarding amulet of safeguarding works well agents them. it slows down aggro burn and token decks really well. Most of the time, aggro decks target the player and not the creatures, and if they do target the creatures then it draws the spell away form your face. spell pierce and dive down save your creatures and you already are playing siren stromtamer. if you ever get the chance, take a look at my tempo deck and we an compare notes.

just thought i would post some of my findings as i play blue tempo on arena and have a blue tempo deck here too. i have found that amulet of safeguarding helps against the red decks that like to target the player and token decks that like to go wide. Shock is a problem, however, that is one less shock to the face. the Amulet will also slow settle the wreckage because it targets the player. I feel that while many people play the same deck and cards as everyone else much like this deck it does not mean that everyone knows how to pilot it or adapt to the changing environment. keep playing and keep finding new strategies.

Blue Tempest

This is a good deck to use in standard right now. This deck works well in best of three matches. red counter is still a problem in the format however the Amulet of Safeguarding has show to be a handy tool to slow them down just enough swing in for the win.
