General Magic / Re: Skyclave Apparition or Oblivion Ring?
« en: Noviembre 28, 2020, 03:47:24 pm »
I would say skyclave aspiration takes the cake, unless we're talking about EDH in particular. If it is EDH you are considering, I would take the Oblivion ring. Reason being, people have a longer time to build up for higher mana combo's in EDH, so you often find yourself in the position of needing to remove a win condition that could be much greater than just four mana.

I would consider removing harrow, grow from the ashes, as well as your evolving wilds and terramorphic expanse to make room for more cards. The problem I find with evolving and terramorphic expanse in two colors, is if you have a good enough land base, they could just be replaced with a basic land so you can still net your turn one spells. The first two ramp spells I mentioned prior do not offer you very much bang for your buck in terms of synergy, you want ramp that can do one of two things: 1. Get your commander out earlier, or 2. Extensively ramp you to your X spells. Explosive vegetation, as well as skyshroud claim are both dollar cards and can hard ramp you. Elvish Mystic, arbor elf, and llanowar elves are cents on the dollar, and they're great mana dorks. Perhaps consider adding some hydras, but if you want to go purely another route that suits you, then all the better. Staying at 36 lands is very reasonable for a g/r edh, especially with all the ramp you have, so perhaps aim for that.

Also minus one to two lands, consider some draw spells as well.

Minus might sliver, psionic sliver, asceticism, seedborn muse, mirrai's wake, guilded lotus, back to nature. Add seven one to three mana ramp rocks/dorks.

In summary, I think focusing consistent synergy, slightly outweighs strong ramp in the early game, so that's what I changed.

Funny you say that, I actually just recently removed a little ramp from the deck. The issue I have often have, is in my mid game, I start to run out of recursion options if I intend to go heavy on my scarab gods active ability which exiles my yard. I understand you could, and most likely should be targeting opponents creatures as well if they are indeed in the yard, but that is not always a valid option. Bottom line, I had simply too many rocks hitting the field. Zombies, are a slow, lumbering deck, at first.. and should be played as thus. You have to be able to utilize your scarab god, he often goes to your hand when he is removed, meaning no increase in cmc since he goes to your hand. Scarabs god scry/burn is absolutely silly, and should absolutely be your main focus when playing him, not his active. You should be sitting quite comfortable if you hit even a single rock, and load the field with zombies.

Good suggestions, I never fully committed to the storm idea until recently, I think where it's at now feels pretty smooth. I like removal because I play in groups where the strongest doesn't always win, people like gang up on the big guy from the get-go.

With that said, I would say if you're running green, cultivate and kodama's reach if you have basics to fetch are better nine times out of ten.

Sincerely don't need it, my land base/ramp has always provided me enough variety to not have color issues.

Made an Omnath, locus of rage edh recently. Have only measured it up a few times, seems to be working alright so far: http://deckstats.net/decks/38880/387446-omnath-locus-of-rage-edh/en
