I was focusing more on power to CMC ratio, but will definitely try a version with grim initiate.
First strike and death touch is brutal.

Drop a Trumpet blast - (1 card space extra now)
Drop a siege gang - (2 card space extra now)
I would drop the 3 Cavalcade of Calamity - put 2 more removal spells (3 card space extra now)

Replace Growing Rites of Itlimoc with Song of Freyalise (need mana sinks for the growing rite it only gives green mana)
With the last three card slots add Zhur-Taa Goblin (2 for 2/2 haste or 3/3 with haste from war-chief)
