No one would ever play this in modern. It is labeled correctly.

Honestly if you refined the deck a bit and worked on the mana base this deck could really be something strong. Are you planning on improving on this or are you just content on having a casual deck?

I'm new to magic and I just wanted to make a life gain deck. I'd like to improve it in any way I can

Ok then, I have a few suggestions that may help you out then. First off welcome to magic the gathering, now lets get started:

1) in magic the gathering there are various sets that have themes for every set. Since the majority of your cards are from the Shadows over Innistrad set then I would highly suggest building your deck around. The creatures are going to be a big part of this deck in how it plays. They are your first line of defense and depending on the deck should also be your base line for offense.

2) Spells are the support of the deck. They will help lure your opponent into traps, make great combat plays, and shape the board as you need to. Any spell you place in this deck should help push the deck closer towards the end goal of the deck.

3) Once you've decided your base core for this deck you should next look at your options and work towards improving the quality of the deck. It's your deck, so it has to feel comfortable when you play it.

Looking at your deck I understand that Life-gain is important but having a lot of life does nothing if you're not advancing your own board state. Incorporate life gain into the deck but have a game play strategy that is more direct and makes a greater impact on the enemy. What do you think of this so far?

I understand completely. I'll find time to update the deck list, but I took your advice and now the goal of the deck is to 1: give my creatures buffs via odric, lunarch marshal/victory's herold... and gain life through that
2: create tokens for protection
3: draw cards or cycle through my deck with scry to get to the cards i need for the combos

It was a bit pricey, but i ordered cards on card kingdom to add to the deck to make it more consistent. I will have at least 2 copies of a card in the deck for consistency.

Ok so here is another point that I would like to make. When playing magic the gathering there is no guarantee of what you are going to draw (unless you fix the top cards of your deck).  If you fail to draw your MAIN combo pieces then the rest of the deck should still function even if you never draw Odric and still be able to win. This is something that will come with practice. But for now ask yourself when you are going through your cards; If I draw card "A" and "C" and never draw card "B" can I still make an impactful play?
