Gearhulk Reanimator

My first Standard deck ;D

Hey, Soren841; I've played against versions of the reanimator standard deck, and it can be a great deck to win longer games in standard. God Pharaoh's Gift is excellent with gearhulks and their etb effects. Consider making room for Gate to the Afterlife: it cheats in GPG saving 4 mana (and a few turns), as well as providing card draw and filling your graveyard with reanimator targets that are too expensive to hard cast early in the game. Lifegain adds up too.

The best versions of this deck I've played against focused only on noxious gearhulk in maindeck and had a healthy amount of targeted removal, fatal push and grasp of darkness (switch to vraska's command with rotation). Blue is often a main color choice to take advantage of strategic planning and champion of wits for the same reason as Gate to the Afterlife - card draw and stocking graveyard. Blue also lets you sneak in one (or more) of the Scarab God as another win condition. Sideboard options open up with blue as well.

As Gate to the Afterlife and God Pharaoh's Gift are colorless, you can use many different color shells and make it work. Going white means using refurbish as you have, and I think it is an underrated card. There is a little bit of tension having a lot of gearhulks and God Pharaoh's Gift with no Gate to the Afterlife tutor/cheat, because you lose some P/T making gearhulks zombies, and you can hardcast gearhulks before hardcasting GPG.

Anyway, welcome to Standard. You started standard at a good time - it is a really open format right now, a brewer's goldmine. Thanks for sharing your idea.

I don't think it's really open all that much quite yet. Depends on what else comes in Ixalan but Ramunap Red definitely stays alive after rotation

Very true; Ramunap Red is well positioned for rotation, as is Temur Energy. Both are fast enough to mean lifegain is an effective way to combat those decks, especially if you build a utility sideboard to match up against the most played decks. Tapping opponent's creatures with Authority of the Consuls would be a good white sideboard card against either of those two. The main thing to defend against when competing with Ramunap Red is Hazoret, and bomat courier can also be a weak point if they risk tapping out.

But there are also several other decks that will be viable after rotation besides Temur Energy and RR: UW Approach, UB/Grixis Reanimator, UR Prowess, GR Ramp, there will be a planeswalker/vehicle deck I think, and all the new builds with new cards. Instead of 1 or 2 top decks there are 4 or 5, and no single deck is ultra-powerful in such a way as to prevent weird, spicy creations from coming out of nowhere (the renewed health of standard is shown in that mono red aggro can be competitive, as RR came out of nowhere recently). Good compared to recent standard iterations, but I'm sure it seems small coming from legacy and all its options.

Here's hoping there are several interesting cards yet to be revealed in Ixilan!

Hi,
mardu reanimator is really a good deck to play.
Fom my experience, I think there is better to have 4 copies of red hulk and only 2 copies of white, because the abillity is really main. And you really destroy a lot of permanents only if opponent is playing tokens or lot of small creatures. And that is not likely with a set of huge dinosaurs. But this is really only a little thing.
But the main problem is mana. I would really run minimum 20 lands, better 22, because when you have deck, that is based on 5 or 6 cmc hulks and 7 mana artifact, in later game or when you don't have refurbish or Madcap Experiment, you need to have mana to cast hulks.
But I really like that idea with Leave/Chance.
