Your Ixalan tribal favorite

This was actually hard. I traditionally love vampires (so I went with it) but Merfolk interests me in building a tribal EDH deck, but those Elder Dinosaurs look beast.

Pirate Tribal.  It has the most versatility of the tribes in Ixalan, letting you go full aggro, full control, or somewhere in between.  It also has many combat trick options, some of which also give you cards they don't give other tribes.  Add in that most treasures go to pirates, setting up mana fixes and they have many play options (including pulling in three of the five Elder Dragons even without treasures).

Vampires are definitely my favorite tribe in this set. The various vamps have ways of creating a board presence, of giving you an upper hand when it comes to life swings. And as long as you'r not playing against another life gain deck then your looking at a fast win. Bleed the enemy dry for the win!!!

I find it quite interesting that Merfolk topped the poll for best competitive tribal in the RIX Standard format, but not a single vote as a tribal favorite.

I went with what was my favorite to play. It's been a while since I played Merfolk, and I haven't delved into playing Dinosaurs yet. Pirates were ok, but I still like Vampires more.

It is mostly that merfolk have more "merfolk matter" cards than the other tribes.  Pirate combat tricks don't need a majority pirate cards to matter as much, nor do vampires on the most part.  Dinos almost NEED to have non-dibos to round out their curve.  So speaking purely tribal competition, merfolk was designed for it

Not really. Pirates dont have many tribal matters cards but they synergize very well as tribes go

I think that it just comes to the tribes in general. Merfolk are some of the oldest archetypes that this game has but probably been off the meta scene for the longest time. It's only natural that they'd have a large fan base of players trying to bring them back.
