Teferi sacrificed his Planeswalker spark, using its energy to close one of the temporal storms. Dominaria survived, but Zhalfir was lost outside of time, and Teferi was left as a powerful but merely mortal mage.

I honestly don't know how much I believe the wiki entry that Chandra and Teferi are going to be planeswalker decks...
It hasn't been officially stated on magic online, unless I'm mistaken?
And magic has said they are going to stay clear of the gatewatch for a while, unless they are back tracking on their word. (Fans were annoyed that they were focusing too heavily on them and not other planeswalkers)

Safe to say there will be a new Gideon planeswalker, probably without the signature "Indestructible" ability.  I would like the old lady to be Captain Sisay on the Weatherlight.  Maybe see Gerard and MirriSquee, Goblin Nabob would be amusing.  We know Karn will be there.  Ajani will most likely be there.  Jhoira as a planeswalker with a +1 that will cast a spell suspended from your hand would be interesting.  Hopefully Teferi is still a planeswalker.

Sigh, unfortunately Gerrad died as a result of the legacy weapon being used to wipe out yawgmoth. The old lady is Maya Ballard. (75% certain)
But would be cool! None the less.
Jhoira definitely is not going to be a planeswalker. (100% certain) unless Maro decides to rewrite the fact she has lived over 1000 years and not had her spark ignite.

Yesterday's Split Second on SCG, it's from the Toyark (?) convention.

Nice, I will be watching for news. But, whoever spoilt that, has spoilt a huge story arch considering the information I provided!

I agree Tre. Teferi is cool enough but I'd love a Jhoira!

Jhoira, having the whole 'slow-time' aspect could have an activated ability like:

URXXX, tap jhoira; suspend target non-instant, non-sorcery spell for x turns (target spell is exiled with x time counters; at beginning of controller's upkeep, remove a time counter; when no time counters remain, spell resolves at the beginning of controller's next precombat main phase).

Maybe that is too powerful, and you should need to sac or exile her instead of tap.

It would be new card mechanic design space though, eh?

http://deck.tk/1PJd2YnD - Krokodil; my favorite Standard deck which focuses on -1/-1 counter synergy; currently illegal due to ban on attune. I'm brewing a post ban version...

Standard decks I'm trying:
http://deck.tk/4ixH1ndX - Mono G Monument
http://deck.tk/94QF5WSF - Booty Sac

It would be nice to have control on how many turns you suspended the spell for but that seems too high cost compared to the ability of the old Jhoira, which also didn't limit the type of spell you could use.

Standard cards have to be weak, that's how Wizards wants them. I've noticed they mostly do their nerfing with costing. We get a familiar effect, but not as strong.

As I wrote it up,  it's still too strong as it is a repeatable effect (tap v. Sac/exile), and wizards probably would not let you target your own spells by including language like 'target spell an opponent controls". I also included the spell-type limitations as I figured they would want to avoid shenanigans with "I win the game" sorceries.

Anyhoo, Jhoira is a must-include, in my opinion; and probably Legendary, so we can hope for a fun, new ability that may also be useful outside of Standard.

My point (which I should have been clearer on), was that this new Standard power level that we've seen over the past few years is going to cause disappointment for the players who have been waiting for a return to Dominaria with the chance to see these characters.

That is an excellent prediction.  ;D

Im not even sure we will see suspend as a mechanic because the suspend cards have been "reprints" of old rstricted cards like wheel of fortune and Anscestral. I don't think wizards would print those into standard even with a high suspend cost especially if they have cards that reduce suspend counters. If they do print that mechanic again I feel like a lot of those cards are going to be super underpowered compared to the suspend cards we already have.

sadly I am not at all familar with the old lore if you guys have any sources in books or or online articles i would greatly appreciate that.

Thanks!
I can't even read

I am not a lore expert, but this is a partial history of the Weatherlight saga and much of Dominaria's origins; it is a little wordy as it includes the author's perceptions of the feelings of the magic community, how new sets were received with positively or negatively, etc. It's about 85% history, I'd say. Drawbacks: like all history it is editing by what the author thought was important to include; I have yet to find the recap for the end of the story by the same author (where Gerrard goes boom), but that's mostly on me being lazy and not looking very hard.

https://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/retired-forums/retired-forums/articles/404806-remember-the-weatherlight-part-1-come-sail-away

That's the link too part 1; links to parts 2-4 are on the pages. Good read to find out who's who - and who's dead - in Dominaria.

Mirri is dead:-[
